Several tourists walk that path during season its rare that you would be the only ones on that path, things are different in the slow season. I did have one trip that there was a guy by the end of the beach that harassed me every day, something about a fee for passing. He was kind of chubby guy, never saw him around there since.
That guy has been there on and off for a few years. He can be intimidating at times and other times friendly...but always wants money or a beer or a sandwich or all the above. I have had more than one confrontation with him. Usually after the first occurance(each trip) he leaves me/us alone.
Just a few weeks ago I busted him twice, I walked up quietly while he was busy. The first time he was on a phone, hehe, he asked for a sandwich, I said, lots of places deliver, just give them a call and pointed to his phone...he wasn't happy.
The next time he was counting a HUGE wad of cash, I guess from folks who gave him what he demanded, he looked like the cat who swallowed the canary! before he said anything I asked...hey mon, can I have 100J ?......I'm sure the words I heard were insults, but didn't understand.
His newest thing is trying to sell cheap ass bracelets. But then wants the other stuff anyway. After the first few days he was gone. I didn't know why until I noticed a Police speed trap on the road practically right next to his hideout. I suppose he left cause of the popo.
Stand your ground.

Look for Rise N Shine on this stretch of the beach between Azul and the private house. He is a Rasta that sells his goods from the beach and he makes some of them from recycled glass, etc. He is really chill and very cool to sit and chat with.

Fred Stripe--Yep, he was a big guy. We ere there in November, and besides the couple that were walking in front of us, there was no one else around, at all. Again, if this happened to a newbie going for a walk from one of the all-inclusives, I bet they would feel like they shouldn't have "left their compound" like everyone is warned. Too bad.
Re: Can I walk safely from Bloody Bay Beach to Long Beach?
Thank you pamc, fred and others for your posts about this location. Pam, great point about the perspective of newbies and how it might affect them. The question of safety from the OP had struck me as one of road safety and I didn't even consider the other aspect. Overall I think the paths are safe, but take into consideration the time of day you're passing through, and/or the time of year that you're visiting (is it slow season?)... Anyway, awareness is a great item to pack... we usually have that with us. For our next trip I may consider the addition of a walking stick...just in case I lose my balance. - k :)
