Ok.. I see, this is something they neglected to tell me when I contacted them. I was told it would be $25 for the data and then they would charge for per text or call. I guess I need to keep reading, this is all new to me!

Using a local sim and data plan is much cheaper than Verizon's global calling. And if you keep the sim topped off every couple months you can use it in future visits as well.
I spoke to Verizon a few day's ago. All 4G phones are shipped out unlocked. For Iphones go to Settings; Cellular, Roaming and turn International CDMA Off. Take sim out(use a pin to pop it out) turn off and replace with Digicel SIM.
Yep, exactly what they told me as well.
After further review seems that is correct. My old iPhone 5's are unlocked as are my current 6's. I don't plan on using the 6 down there - rather not have on the beach etc. and generally don't want to mess with my phone as it's too important at home. Went to apple store today to get a new battery for the 5 - it was free - so both 5's are good to go. I'll grab a couple sim cards in the circle so my wife and I have full cell service on the island for the 10 glorious days we will be in Negril again. I truly cannot wait. Last year we stayed on the cliffs - 1/2 at Catcha gardens- the other 1/2 at Seastar - recommend both. This time we are staying 1/2 on the beach - new to us - at the Three House - and the rest at Catcha - just love the cliffs. Anyway = just love the place. Soon come.
