Re: Fair price for transfer
I believe it depends on the type of vehicle you ride in. Our long term driver (over 15 years) has a large van with darn near standing standing room, and wide luxury seats and tons of space for luggage. He charges charges $100 for one to four people. After 4 people it is $25 per person.
Smaller vehicles (cars) can be had for cheaper of course.
Re: Fair price for transfer
One thing to consider when selecting a driver is will you want to do an excursion as well. Several drivers will work with you on price if you do a day trip as well as transfers. $60-$75 seems to be the norm one way, so no need to split hairs over a few bucks. For me, it's all about the ride and experience and not just the lift. If you get a great driver you will appreciate everything else they have to offer.
This is who I use and the man has never let me down. He has shuttled us nearly 30 times between airport transfers and day trips and all have been great. Most importantly for me, he drives with respect to his passengers.

Another great driver that I have used and who a lot of friends use is Shane Taxi. You can find him on Facebook if you need contact info. He has a nice ride and drives great as well. Shane is who I reach out to if my usual driver is not available for rides around town.
Re: Fair price for transfer
60 dollars is what we pay one way for two people in a nice air conditioned nearly new Toyota 11 passenger bus driven by a safe driver.
That's not important though.
Here is what is.
I don't want to go from the airport to Negril at 70 miles an hour or more passing everything at high speed and depending on luck that there won't be a slow moving farm vehicle or animal on the road and with only a heavy hand on the horn to make it through.
Been there, done that.
What I need is observance of speed limits and traffic laws by a good driver who isn't smoking a fattie or drinking beer behind the wheel.
Several years back, we stopped just before Lucea to help a van load of tourists heading to Negril, after their bus flipped onto it's side due to excessive speed in the rain. No one hurt, but still, it must have been horrible.
Just two years ago, a big bus was smashed by a car on the way back to the airport around Sandy Bay.
Accidents do happen. I just don't want to be in a little Corolla wagon. pressing traffic because the driver wants to make a quick trip, and I save 10 or 20 dollars.
Make sure you use a recommended driver from this site.
Rob wouldn't steer us wrong.

There are a lot of good, honest, safe and efficient drivers who charge a fair price to and from the airport (witness the responses from some of the boardies who use and recommend them). I notice that many of these operators (although they pay to advertise here) don't shove their way in to the line shouting, "Me! Me!" like they are apt to do when you exit the airport.
We all have our favorites and most of us think the price we pay is a "fair price" or we wouldn't use them.
Times are rough in Jamaica and their is a lot of competition for your tourist dollar. I just hope all the rest of the drivers who advertise here don't start to elbow and shove their way into these question threads like a life insurance salesman at a retirement home.
Just my opinion.
Re: Fair price for tramsfer
Although Linston is part of our screen name and I placed his contact info in my signature we have never solicited business by way of answering a thread nor will we.
We are one car and one driver and personal service.
This time of year we concentrate on Zion Hill rather than the taxi business. We are still an organic farm after all.
On that note we wish to thank all the boardies who traveled with Linston and those who visited Zion Hill this season
Regards

Thanks Cap. Exactly my point. Linston is my personal choice. There is a wide chasm between offering your services passively like Liston does and soliciting business. When you are good, people will recommend you and that is they best recommendation one can give.
All the best to you and yours, Cap.
Nuff Respect!
