That's how I roll, too. Don't want anything bulky in my pocket and don't want anybody watching me fumble through my wallet at the vendor stands, etc. I usually carry my ATM card, as well, however I've never had a taxi driver turn me down when I have run out of cash. They will be happy to wait outside your hotel while you run to your room to get more money.
But yeah, my wallet stays in the safe with my credit cards and ID.

Yeah, last March, my wallet fell out of my back pocket onto my seat when I got off the plane in Montego Bay. I realized it at the currency exchange, went to the Delta desk to have them search the plane and they found it on my seat but my wallet had been emptied of $600 USD but credit cards and ID were still in it. So I just pulled $500 USD out with my credit card and had a good vacation! Hard lesson learned!
