Passing on the shoulder is not uncommon in Negril. A few years back I almost got wacked one day in pretty much the same way, someone wanting to pass instead of waiting a few seconds. More than once this recent trip I stopped people who were walking WITH the traffic to advise them to walk facing the traffic so they could see what was coming & used this passing on the shoulder as why they should do this. They looked at me like I was crazy. I tried!

All I can say is that we rent a motorcycle several times while we are here - and we are either invisible or a target. The last near miss was a bad one, really close - and the car was being driven by a tourist (rental car). Swerved to either miss a pot hole or something and nearly clipped us in the front - hub is an EXCELLENT defensive rider. And thank god for that.
