About 8 years ago we stayed in one of the least expensive rooms at Rockhouse, at that time the price was $ 75.00 per nite. The room was fine and although it didn't have a view of the ocean it seemed very peaceful. In the evenings we would hang around the pool area and pretty much have the area to ourselves as everyone else seemed to have gone dining, etc. I would have no hesitation staying there again.
Clarity...that place looks incredible. When we were booking this April trip, we called Rockhouse to book the premium villa and it was not available so we booked at Catcha. I hope to stay there one day looks like something out a 007 movie. LOL
No Problem Clarity...I can give The Rockhouse a big thumbs-up. The private villas/cottages are extremely nice, but not in everyone's price range. You can stay in one of the basic studios and still have an amazing "anniversary-worthy" experience. The grounds and common areas of Rockhouse are so amazing you won't spend much time in your room. The studios are not huge, but they are clean and comfortable. They also have balconies or outdoor sitting areas that are quite nice. My wife really loved the semi-outdoors shower (complete with flowers and palm tree). Rockhouse has great water access at many many points on the property. This is why I prefer it over some of the other very nice places that are not steps away from di watta. Drinks at the pool bar are two for one from 4-6 pm. The Dirty Banana is my favorite! Here is a tip for saving some money on food. Rockhouse has excellent food and you should definitely eat some dinner there, but it is somewhat expensive. Right next-door (less than 50 feet away) is Sips and Bites restaurant. Very good Jamaican food at reasonable prices. Sips has an excellent fruit plate and breakfast items in general. Their brown stew or roast fish or curry lobster will rival any fancy restaurant in Negril. You can also save a bunch of money by patronizing the roadside stalls for jerk or patties etc.
In conclusion, unless you do a lot of stuff in the room besides sleep and shower, Rockhouse studios are a value. I predict you will spend most of your time in the water or at the pool (Perhaps exploring the west end or playing dominoes at Pushcart). I have stayed at Rockhouse several times and the only negative I can come up with is that I miss my friends in management and others who used to be employed there.
Thank you so much everyone for all of your helpful feedback!! Thanks for sharing your experiences at Rockhouse!
Lawngirl - I loved the pictures!
Now I know for sure that the Rockhouse would be perfect for our anniversary! (I agree, Tizzy, It’s looks like the set for a 007 movie!:D) Even though we can only afford a standard room or a studio room, I know we’re going to love it. It has everything we’re looking for and I think the Rockhouse restaurant would be the perfect place to have our anniversary dinner.
I know shouldn’t get too excited about this because Rockhouse hasn’t responded to my email inquiry yet….
I just received this email from from Citronella this morning. They are entirely booked. So Citronella has just been crossed off the list of possibilities
And Banana shout has just informed me that there is a 3 night minimum.:(
So now all our eggs are in this one basket. I’m really really hoping that Rockhouse has availability.
I have a collection of rejection letters from every hotel we’ve tried to get into…So I’m sitting on pins and needles here.
Thank you everyone for your help!
I think that means that Rockhouse is your place. I bet they will email you with an opening and it will all mean it was just meant to be.
Then you can send Dwight an email (he is the restaurant manager) and tell him you want a reservation for the rock table for your special anniversary dinner.
I will pm you his email (I have it at home somewhere I think)
I think you both will love it.....Markus will definitely love the snorkeling there and you will both love how absolutely beautiful the entire property is!
This just arrived in my inbox:
"Thank you for your interest in the Rockhouse. Unfortunately we are fully booked for the period you have inquired. We appreciate your inquiry and apologize that we cannot satisfy your request. Please find attached further information on the Rockhouse. We look forward to welcoming you to the Rockhouse on your next journey to Jamaica. Please advise."
(sigh) Can't believe my bad luck...:(
This is becoming so exhausting.
It’s just one let down after the next…
I feel like giving up…
Maybe there is some availability at the Roots Bamboo campgrounds. We can pitch a tent, rub some sticks together to start a fire, and sleep on the beach for our anniversary…
Well, I just hope others learn from my mistakes. I should not have waited until I had plane tickets in my hand to start officially booking.
Thanks everyone for all your help though
I will add Rockhouse hotel to my bucket list….
Clarity, Im sorry you are having such a hard time, I believe you are looking at this portion of your trip to be on the cliffs. Have you tried Hide Awhile?http://www.hideawhile.com/accommodations.htm
http://www.moondanceresorts.com/ We toured this place last year, the old manager of the Rockhouse was there now, dont know if Matheww is still there, and I dont know of you can stay only one night, but it was pretty spectacular. Also, did you see if the Caves will let you stay one night?? How about the Westender?
