Re: Half the clothes twice the money
We have adjusted our plans a few times, but I think this last plan is a keeper.. 4 days in negril, 4 at shades cottages in Belmont and 6 in Portland area, and then to Montego Bay the night before we head home :( Portland just has that natural beauty that my lady and I fell in love with.. There is just too much to see and do on the island..
Re: Half the clothes twice the money
for a tip, the housekeeper will do it...a couple pair of swim trunks, several t shirts, underwear for every day....and we wear some little extra things on the plane and take some of it off when we get in the cab,...plus you can buy souviener shirts there and wear them...we are also budget people....have to do without some things at home to be able to go,and we dont eat out much at home...we would rather blow our money in negril rather than blowing it at home....we don't do w/o anything we need, and dont really miss the cut backs....(give me a crack at the federal budget, lol) Our bday, valentines, christmas, etc, gifts are just money to the negril fund...works for us...
Re: Half the clothes twice the money
I'm with you Groove. We do the same.
Re: Half the clothes twice the money
Bring along a travel size bottle of Febreeze ~~ perfect for "freshening" up your clothes.
Re: Half the clothes twice the money
Same here Groove, we don't buy gifts for each other for any special occasions.
When we have a trip in the works I pick up extra hours at my part-time job to fund anything extra that we might plan on doing when down there.
We don't eat out often, go to movies, or anything outside of what is necessary so that we can save every penny for our vacations.
It's what we live for and any sacrifice is worth it :)
Re: Half the clothes twice the money
I have gone with just a carry on a couple times. Saves a lot of time! Usually spend over half the day in my swimsuit, so I can pack light, plus I'm not big on shoes. Can get buy with just a couple pairs of flip flops and pack lots of sundresses and swimsuits, which don't take up a lot of room. Then buy detergent to hand wash clothes with when I get there.
Re: Half the clothes twice the money
My wife and I are the same we no longer exchange gifts all of our money goes towards our time in Jamaica.

Wow ... I thought I was the only girl not interested in shoes!!! Couple pair of flip flops only for me as well!!! I'm not wearing anything I have to take off to walk :) I can pack all my clothes in my carry on, and I hate shopping so I don't even have enough clothes for the 10 days we are staying! You'll be seeing me in the same stuff ... I hope no fashion police are present! ;)
Re: Half the clothes twice the money
Groove16, we do the same with not eating out much, and Saving the money we would spend on holidays and the like. For the 5th year in a row it has allowed us to go to what we call our second home!
Re: Half the clothes twice the money
Employ a Jamaican! Housekeepers can often do personal laundry where you are staying for a reasonable fee, or bring it home. They do a fantastic job BUT one caveat: either do fine fabrics yourself or give careful laundering instructions. Better yet, leave the fine fabrics at home and RELAX in your comfy clothes. IRIE! *IG
