Yes, keep checking. American offers nonstop for the winter months ... we booked in October 2012 for January 2013 and got a great rate. I wasn't aware of the AirTran flight out of Midway until just recently, and I'll be watching that option, too. The smaller airport is nice...
Thanks everyone! We found American last year but it looks that flight has a stop in Miami for this year - I thought I had heard that Southwest was going to start flying non-stop from Chicago but nothing out there yet, likewise Air Tran so I will keep checking!

this year is the first that Apple is working out of Rockford, Il.....dont know much about the prices but flights are direct, and a big plus is the airport......park walking distance to terminal FREE.......very safe to leave auto for weeks...

Again, nonstop from CHI (ORD OR MIDWAY) are only available certain days of the week. If you have dates in stone, you may not get nonstop.
Rambo - yes, we could stack two weeks, if our days matched the Charters. I am wed to a school schedule (Christmas holiday plus a few bonus vaca days) - so we cannot guarantee a 14 day with Sat-Sat. All depends when the holiday falls.
This year, even looking today, there is nothing for our days that is nonstop (including on matrix, kayak and direct site searches).
This year, we are only there 10 days, so we had to do a short layover. I will not complain about 7 hours total airtime from MKE though! December, soon come!
