First Sunset Pic of 2014 for me
Thanks for the trip report, seven more sleeps for us. I stayed Travellers when they built the pool table. The staff and Winston were good to us. Do they still have the mechanical piano player in the lobby? Mabey well run in to you on the beach for a cold one have a great time. Please keep the photos coming they help melt the snow here.
We we really didn't have anything planned for our Monday but that soon changed. I got up early as always and got our chairs set up on the beach and wandered back to the room. Its pretty awesome that I take 10 steps out the door turn left and walk another 20 or so paces and I am on the beach in my chair! :)
When I got back to the room I was feeling a little hungry so we decided we would just do some basic breakfast in the form of toast. One thing I noticed is that the bread we purchased is about three times as dense as the stuff we get back home. Holy only needed a piece of toast and I was feeling full. While were were snacking on our breakfast Brenda decided that she didn't like how stiff the bed was so she wanted to see if we could go out and get one of those foam mattresses to put on the bed. She figured we could leave it with Doc when we left and he could make good use of it while he stored it for our next reach. So we call up Doc as we needed to buy a cell phone anyway so we ring him up and he will be on his way in 10 minutes.
He arrives as promised and we make our way down to Digicel and pick up a phone and credits. The machine at the store wasn't working so the girl could sell me the phone but no credits. I batted my brown eyes at her and she said she would run next door and get me some minutes. Took a bit of time but we got what we needed and headed out. We wanted a few other things from the market so we made our way up there. There is a real egg shortage in Negril for some reason and we couldn't find any for the second day. As well no one in town had the foam and didn't really seem to understand Brenda when she asked about it(more about that later). So we decided what the heck lets jump in the car and head up to Sav La Mar as there are way more shops and stuff there and a better chance of getting what she needed. Plus Doc knew his local market in Sheffield had eggs and we could grab some on the way back to Negril.
It was an interesting drive to Sav as we dodged potholes and bikers. After a 25 minute ride through the country side we arrive. The first thing I notice about Sav is that its bigger with more people and at this time of day it is busy! We go to a few shops and I quickly notice another thing...no one is trying to sell us anything....drag us into their shops....and for once no one tried to sell me drugs lol! We tried a few shops and we still were having no luck. Finally at the last place we look as Doc and Brenda were coming back to the car I am thinking to myself...hey what if we are asking for the 'wrong' thing. So as Doc pokes his head into the window I give a better description of what we want. He immediately hoots and says he knows where to get it. In the store they were just in. So heres the deal he though we were looking for Styrofoam not a 'sponge'. LOL!! I bet every shop in Sav is thinking there is some crazy blonde lady going around trying to find the inner workings of packing boxes to sleep on! That's soooo funny! Before we leave Doc shows us the old seaport in Sav. Seems like a couple of block of Sav used to be Sea and it was reclaimed some time ago with a sea wall. That was interesting.
On the ride back he told us about some of the history of the BIG houses on the side of the road and I was eating up the stories like crazy! We stopped in Sheffield and as reported they had eggs so we grabbed a couple of dozen just to be on the safe side. We headed back into Negril and decided that we should go have something to eat. Doc suggested Juicy J's but when we got there it was being renovated so nothing there. We then went over to the Sea View/Corner Bar. I have to tell you I had one of the best meals ever in Jamaica at that place. We ordered the Jerk Chicken and Rice for 500J and it was awesome. So cheap and there was enough for us to pack up and take home with us afterwards. If you are in town give them a try. They are fast the food is good and its priced right! :)
We came back to the resort and hung out with Doc. We got in touch with our friend Statement to see if he was in town which he was. He's a drummer in one of those drum groups and he was drumming later on in the evening. We also ran into Beverly the resident massage lady at the resort. She is a good friend of our friend DK so we chatted with her for a while. Brenda was starting to feel stiff because of the bed so she got a massage right on the beach as well. We chatted more and waited for Statement to arrive.
He came by later and we spent some time talking philosophy and other things. He live in Canada for a time and was in Brenda's circle of friends. He's working hard but times are tough in Jamaica and he shared some stories about what was going on. He had to go but said he would be back later in the week. We were happy as we have had a chance to spend time with our most important Jamaican friends in the first couple of days here.
Brenda was getting tired so we decided to have chill evening and we went back to the room to watch TV.
This is where I will interject something. Brenda has been dealing with Cancer for the last three or four years. We found out the week before we came that when we go back to Canada she has to get radiation treatments on a lymph node in her neck. She's had them before so we know what to expect. This trip is all about recharging our batteries so we are fresh and ready to deal with things when we get back. I don't say this to illicit sympathy or anything but just to frame why we sometimes just relax instead of party through the evening. As always it is what is and we do what we do.
DK just messaged me. They are on the plane. My sister(from another mister) and her boyfriend will be here later tonight. The crew will be complete and business is about to pick up!
Check you all later my friends have a great day! :)
Wonderful pictures Crusher. Sounds like your monday was a busy and purposeful. I am glad Brenda has a bed topper now. Last march when we were in Negril I had had surgery for breast cancer. We didn't know the results of the pathology before we left so we decided to make that trip a recharge and get rested trip. Sure enough I did require radiation but was all rested up and ready to fight. Good luck to you both and recharge, recharge, recharge
Thanks for sharing Crusher, make this the trip of your lives, no better place on earth to recharge. The blue of the sea, the sea air, the spectacular sunsets, food, drinks and fun do it for me everytime! Glad you found the foam :)
Crusher,
Nice sunset!
Enjoy,
VVHT
Beautiful sunset photo, enjoy every moment and God Bless!
Great report so far. Good details, good photos. Keep it up, my friend. I left the day you arrive, would have loved to hang with ya.
Thanks for a great update. Enjoy!
Wishing Brenda well! Our first trip to negril (2006) was after a year from hell dealing with chemo and radiation. I also had lymph node involvement. All is well now and I hope it will be for Brenda too!
chrushin it!!!
Crusher thank you for all the great pictures and stories from your trip.
And to Brenda I wish you well in your fight and Boride power to you! I as well as many will keep you in our prayers. Be well.
CC you came through again. Great pic's, great descriptive. Our single digit fidgit started today, so your trip reports will help pass the time for us. Hope to strip a few stripes with you on the 24th. Cheers, have fun with the sis and try not to behave the best you can ;)
This is really our first chill day on the beach. We started the day with me waking up early and heading to the condo office for some wifi! At least the pics worked this time! :)
Brenda slept in and was raring to go when she woke up. I slowed the roll and talked her into breakfast in the room. We cooked some of those farm fresh eggs that we bought in Sheffield the day before. Its amazing how much better 'organic' food tastes. We had eggs on toast and it was one of our best breakfasts ever. Screw those AI's and there plethora or breakfast foods this was sooooo good!!! :)
We both did the internet thing and then spent the remainder of the day on the beach. One of our friends baby momma stopped by as we had brought an entire half a suit case full of stuff for her daughter. She is so cute it was worth every minute of it. I only was asked like four times if I was her father....one look at her complexion and you can tell no chubby white guy was involved in that LOL!! Besides she would be so much cuter and living in Canada if I was her baby daddy just saying! :)
I am sitting here borrowing wifi from the new bar and thinking I need a nap. My sister DK arrives tonight so I am cooking a late supper of Jerk Chicken Breast and Coconut Rice for her and her man. I love her to bits so I am hoping its a great meal. Their flights got changed at the last minute so its going to be a VERY long day for her!
I am glad you all liked the pictures I will post more later on in the week. Posting two at a time to ensure they work is a bit tedious but you are all worth it! :)
Have a great afternoon and evening mi family!!
Wonderful pictures! Thanks for posting.
Thank you for taking the time to do an on-site trip report. Your pictures are keeping me grounded (we can't make it this year) and are soooo much appreciated. Hopefully someday we'll meet up with you and hear Brenda's golden tones! Enjoy :)
No worries I will make it happen. Didn't take a lot pics today as we were chilling on the beach. We got a little 'colour' today should be an epic tan by tomorrow! :)
Thanks for taking the time to write your trip report! With 20 days to go until I reach it helps calm the nerves...
Oh and give your wife a big hug from all of us.
WONDERFUL report! Like everyone else, I'm grateful you are sharing your visit. Your Brenda is adorable. Big up to you both for bringing the baby items. I KNOW how appreciate the mom was to get therm. Your description of Sav bought back so many memories. Been a while since I was at the condos. Is Deandra still there?
Yah mon she's still running things her for Jean! :)
Great report! I'm gonna have to figure out how to post pics when I'm down there.

Yesterday we were waiting for my DK to come in from Regina so we had a chill day at the beach. Our friend Statement's girl came down with her daughter Shadika. Brenda played in the water with them and we gave her a bunch of things that we brought them. It was almost half of Brenda's suitcase. They were pretty happy with the haul. There were dolls, shoes, clothes and crayons. It was nice to share and she's such a good little girl.
Other than that we didn't do too much it was a good chill day.
Oh one other thing....at Errol's on the beach there is a new restaurant there called Kenny's. They serve Chinese food. Everyone was raving about it so we had to give it a try. I have to say for a big white guy I could have made better Chinese food then we had.
We had the chicken fried rice that was mostly soya sauce and no spices and a cabbage stir fry that was equally as bland. YOU HAVE TO SEASON YOUR FOOD PEOPLE! :)
Well DK arrived around 10PM and we had a little deck party that included a lot of Guiness, Stripes and Subs. It was a great time! :)
Enjoying your trip report and photos! Wishing Brenda a full recovery. She looks great!

First time I've seen you without a red stripe in your hand CC...Whads wit dat
Into single digit fidgit mode now, I got that saying from you!
:-)
Thanks for posting. Your pictures are great. We will be at the Beach Club in a short 24 sleeps. Your getting me by until then. Keep up the posts and have a couple stripes for me.
Beach doesn't look too crowded. Early in the day or the norm? Soon come.
Loving your report! Healing thoughts to your lovely wife...enjoy your time in paradise!!
I love these onsite updates! Thanks
Thanks Crusher for the report and pics. I hope you and Brenda have a great vacation and get the batteries charged to full.
Yvonne the beach is like totally deserted there isn't a lot of people here right now. I am not sure if that's a good thing or not but it is what it is.
So yesterday was another chill day for us. I didn't leave the resort at all. Brenda did go into town and dealt with a phone issue. It wouldn't send text messages but that was an easy fix. She stopped at the bank as well to top up her funds. It sure is handy having Doc around. He had to go though as he had a grave digging for someone up in the hills.
We basically just chilled on the beach most of the day and then I cooked some Jerk Chicken Breast and Rice and Peas for supper. It was good mon. I love being able to cook while I am here as much as I like giving to the locals cooking is like therapy for me and I am really having fun with it down here.
Today I think we are going to venture out maybe to Ahhh Bees or something like that. I haven't had a boardie encounter yet which seems strange but I am sure we will run into someone soon.
Have a great day my friends.
Have fun Crusher and family. Eat a patty for me, beef please
Man, if I had that deck with that view I would be hard pressed to ever move!
Thanks for the reports!
