Packing will happen this weekend! Woohoo! Trying to keep it down to a reasonable amount. Got the shade tent, kettle, tea, toaster, peanut butter, baggies, tin foil, Bubba mugs, go cup...wait a a minute!?! Am I going to have room for any clothes? Single digit time...
I always over pack as well, but seem to be getting better. This trip will tell
The past 3 trips, I've just taken a carry-on. Take a few swimsuits and sundresses, some shorts and t-shirts, snorkle mask, flip-flops, nice pair of sandals, and a few books. Since I stepped on a sea urchin one time, I have since never forgetten my tweezers. Of course, sunscreen cannot be taken in the carry on, so I always buy that when I get there, and use a ton of it, #30 or higher.
I completely overpacked my first trip 10 years ago & have made a game of not overpacking since.
Like Prism, I can get away with just a carry on and a beach bag for a 10-14 day trip. 1 pair of pants , T shirt, and fleece hoodie all layered that I wear on the plane.
I bring a large sarong or a thin beach towel that I can use to sit/lay on or for shade if needed.
All of my clothes & sandals are tried & true. I don't usually bring new things. To me, nothing worse than being uncomfortable from clothes/shoes when trying to chill!
I color coordinate things. If I'm bringing blue & brown flip flops, I only bring clothes that will go with. The cute outfit that I need that one special pair of shoes doesn't go on the trip....unless a very special occasion!
No bling, only a few pieces that I don't mind losing.
No make-up, other than waterproof mascara.
I pack once, then start removing items
My goal, to not bring more than I can carry!
I've come to the conclusion that the only things I need to pack for Negril are what I can fit into my Big Bubba Keg carry on.
HAHA, before each trip I say "Self, don't you dare over pack. Just a few bikinis and a few pairs of shorts/tanks, and flips"
YA RIGHT!
I end up bringing Everything. Hope you do better than me ;)
Oh yeah...
BUG SPRAY X3
Sunscreen
and some cheap sunglasses
Me?
some bathing suits.
some t-shirts
a button down
Jeans
Sneakers
2 pairs of flops.
Takes up 3/4 of a small carry-on rolling suitcase.
Girlfriend
Opens up walk-in closet and proceeds to pack everything that fits in her huge suitcase. Then takes up the rest of my suitcase, then loads up our backpack.

As the years go by, I find I bring fewer clothes, but more "stuff". Random stuff like duct tape, set of silverware, small pack of laundry detergent, extension cord, candle, swiss army knife, etc. I know this is all stuff I can by in JA, but its nice to have a few items like this ready to go in case something comes up. I may not use it all every trip, but I have used all this "stuff" at some point in my travels and thought "man I am glad I brought this".
Don't forget the bug spray! ~~ A few years ago when I was on vacay with my Mom..(probably was her last trip, just doesn't have it in her anymore) She wore one sundress almost all week..We laugh about it still...She would wear it sitting around, out to dinner, swimsuit coverup...Wish I could be more like that!
We always take After Bite, but until the last trip never used it. However, my friend and sister in law got bit something awful last year. I think between them they went through 2 whole tubes. Bugs don't like me, but I'm not complaining! :) Good to have just in case the bug spray didn't do its job.
I bought some fun beach coverups. I had melanoma skin cancer last spring so I'm sporting a spray on tan and some great hats and beach coverups. I'm going to leave the heels at home...I guess...something Ive noticed from the pics is the relaxed style of dress...my denim skirt always goes with me cause everything matches. I'm sure I'll over pack...I'm making my husband bring a big suitcase as well..I can out the shade tent and all the other "stuff" in his bag. Got a new bikini. Kind of impossible not to have at least one new one. Oh and my girlfriend said she was bringing ice cube trays for the fridge in the room, I do love ice in my drinks..so gotta pack some of those.. I really should make a list.
Bug spray is coming! Got seriously bit up in Cuba last year.
Sure, edit out the other stuff I mentioned and make me look like a freak! :)
:D Bluez started it..I'm starting to feel that holiday vibe
Maybe I need to edit my original message to include a disclaimer.... "no one was harmed during the use of these items".
Actually the stuff you're bringing makes sense. I'm bringing three kinds of loose tea and my creamer I like in my tea...I always bring clothes pins and usually hangers..I don't know why but I'm not very organized for this trip..I'm :cool:afraid I've already adopted the "chill" attitude of Negril.
Sorry I couldn't resist... those items just jumped out at me... only kidding around Sam I AM.
PS thanks for having my back Chris ;)
Some good sunglasses, the polarized ones make the water look soooo beautiful.
I love my Maui Jim's, the only sunglasses that I will ever buy.
At Rondel just ask one of the security guys to get you some ice from the machine. No need to make your own. Johnno and Carl are two great security guys who have been there for many years.
Sounds good. I did pick up some heart shaped ice cubes today. Along with a whole bunch of other stuff! Got some lovely Valentines day sunglasses..glow stuff, pony tail and braid holders, reading glasses, cards...thinking the staff will probably have some kids that would like some of this stuff..
What Flip really needs ... Bathing suit, Phillys t-shirt
What Tiz needs ... brown shorts, a couple of bikinis, and a shirt for a friend to wear
Wow, you are packing a lot of stuff! I always manage to get some school supplies in my carry on, but my days of buying a bunch of stuff for a trip and overpacking are over.
LMFAO Dude I wasn't even ready for that
I'm so tempted to post a picture right now but I don't want anyone getting mad at me
Heading to Negril for the 3rd time next week! So excited. Just joined the forum b/c I think the conversations on here are great and I had to chime in.
Here's my list: Dresses, dresses, dresses (maxis are perfect for the cooler evenings), 4 bathing suits, 4 flip flops, a few sarongs, a few cardigans, throw in a few skirts and t-shirts and you should be good to go. I wouldn't bother with pants. Last trip I only wore them for the flight and changed into a dress before I even left the airport and I plan to do the same this time. If you are fair skinned like me I would say also don't leave home without some form of a sun hat.
Cheers!
Do I need to pack beach towels, fedoras, sun hats, etc.?
Is the craft market a good place to buy these items?
Is it open everyday? Expensive??
You don't have to leave your chair to buy a hat!Attachment 33599
Tomorrow is packing day.. woo hoo!! I actually bought some snorkeling gear yesterday. I'm not a great swimmer but I figure I can stay close to shore..I am bringing two hats but I bet I'll buy another...
We decided to book a trip one year... Booked it and left two days later with just a carry-on each. If I forget something I'll buy it there and if they don't have it then I must not really need it! Have a great time :)
Ugh...I'm sick of packing. I wish someone would do if for me..I need a wife
Attachment 33605
Guess which is mine...and I'm not done. I figure once I put all the sunscreen and other stuff in I'll start eliminating..
I see way to many clothes and not enough thongs :p JK JK
Make sure you leave some room for souveniers!
Just got back and I completely overpacked. I wore nothing but tanks & shorts, swimsuits & one pair of flip flops. Bring an umbrella or rain coat.
I'm hoping the rain is gonna stop! I do have an umbrella packed.. Gotta leave room for the Caesar mix, candy for the kids etc etc..I will have to remove some stuff..
