Re: An all-new TRAIL OF ASHES exclusive: The Mighty Californian's last hurrah in Negr
After a leisurely swim, I switched rooms and got ready for the bar crawl, an especially epic one because so many boardies are in town, so there was so much buzz that two buses were used.
I went with Brent and Chickster and a few other yardies, as Lenbert came round to pick us up. We went to Red Dragon, and I met Groove 16, Roy Mon, Beebeluv, Twofortoday and a bunch of others. I bought everyone nearby a batch of pork to share – the notoriously spicy jerk pork that will make you want to wash it down with a cold stripe. The stripes are so cold that ice pieces form on the glasses. The pork is well cooked, even a bit dry, and very spicy. The more you eat, the more you want some more. A few onions are mixed in, and it’s good stuff – but it needed ketchup, just MHO.

Re: An all-new TRAIL OF ASHES exclusive: The Mighty Californian's last hurrah in Negr
The pub crawl continued. We visited a private home, where the hostess served drinks after first dishing out appetizers with cayan pepper jelly that made you incredibly thirsty -- smart lady. Then it was off the On the Rocks, a seaside bar near the bottom of the hill. I was getting a bit tired by now, so I bowed out and hailed a cab.
I was hoping for a red plate, but a white plate pulled up and the guy said it was OK to take me all the way to Seastar Inn gates, so I said what the heck and got in, and it was all good.

Re: An all-new TRAIL OF ASHES exclusive: The Mighty Californian's last hurrah in Negr
After a nice plate of spaghetti, I took a nap and woke up 9 p.m. Charlie is at Negril Palms, so I headed over there and found him already making friends with his neighbor – typical Tattoo Charlie – and together we all headed to Roots Bamboo, where a live band was playing. The group was an old-school reggae type band that alternated between Marley-type stuff and rock classic. The singer was young and compelling, and there was also a trumpet player, and overall the band was quite good. There were a lot of people there, perhaps 200, and not as many hustlers as you would think. Just a nice group mix of locals ans tourists.
Shayne, my old friend, had driven us, stopping first so Charlie could go the bank. Shayne rented out his extra cell to Charlie, so now we both have phones.
After a few rum punches that hit me particularly hard, I called it a night, and Shayne drove me back to Seastar. It was a fun evening.

Re: An all-new TRAIL OF ASHES exclusive: The Mighty Californian's last hurrah in Negr
Fellow boardie Chickster is a great guy. He loves to laugh and have a good time, and together we went spearfishing on Thursday morning, a beautiful Negril day that saw the ocean clear and calm and looking just like a giant aquarium.
I had left my scoooter at Palms (good security w gate in front) the night before, so Shayne picked us up early and gave us a ride. Just as we got on the boat, Mo From Monroe was on the beach and we said our hellos. This was Chickster's first time spearfishing, and he came close but did not catch anything, but I put on show with a sterlng display of accuracy; every trip to Jamaica, I get a little better at it, and now it's to the point where I am obsessed with this sport that's so rare to most Americans that there is barely anything on the Net about it.
Instead of calling a cab for Chickster like we probably should have, I convinced him to hop on the back on the scooter. And that's when it happened. We were driving along up the hill, when suddenly a man in a car began screaming at me and trying to cut me off and stop me. I manuvered away a couple of times, and then he skidded to a stop in front of me, and I wasn't sure I was going to be able to stop in time or perhaps crash and go flying.
This was a desparate moment.

Oh lord. Gas did this to me once when I was riding Brasi's scooter. Freaked me out and luckily Brasi pulled up right after. Was it Gas?

Well, I wasn't going to refer to him by name, so I will lie and say NO. Apparantly, he was not happy with a youtube video I had posted more than a year ago depicting a segment of an argument between the two of us when I had dropped the scooter and fixed it myself.
This time, I was barely able to stop without crashing -- Chickster was a bit freaked out -- and eventually Gasford continued on and met us at Seastar Inn, where we had a few words together, including me apologizing, and by the end all was alln good between us. After thinking about it for another couple of days, I eventually erased the video.

Re: An all-new TRAIL OF ASHES exclusive: The Mighty Californian's last hurrah in Negr
Muzic Doc has arrived at Seastar Inn. He’s a big, friendly biker-type with long hair, and he likes to hang out at the pool. Tawnee is usually there 24 hours a day. The pool is nice and warm, and it’s great to order drinks and food at the pool bar without ever having to get out of the water.
I hung out at the beach today, enjoying French fries at Palms, a rum punch at Bourbon Beach, and some jerk chicken at Smokey Joe’s across from Alfred’s. I ran into Rick The Prick, a fun-loving tourist from Texas who is addicted to Negril even more than myself, and together we sat at the new bar in the afternoon at Bourbon Beach. The place has undergone a makeover, and there were none of the hustlers and working girls like in seasons past.

Re: An all-new TRAIL OF ASHES exclusive: The Mighty Californian's last hurrah in Negr
Not too crazy about the service at Palms. A little surly. But they're taking good care of my raft, and that's a top priority.
It was nice to shabba again at Bourbon Beach. He's a good guy. I was hangin in the seastar pool, and nearly everyone around me were boardies -- Tawnee, Rick the Prick, Chickster, Brent from Calgary (lurker) and Music Doc. I had a big plate of spagetti and took a nap.

Lol, your repair job actually looked rather good to me...Gasford has sharp ass eyes! Didn't know if he told your story as a warning not to do the same if I drop his bike.....didn't even know it was you. While Gasford treated me well, my GF after riding back to the airport with him thought his driving was the most scary thing on the island. Driving while juggling phones didn't impress her..
Keep it coming Gerry!

Re: An all-new TRAIL OF ASHES exclusive: The Mighty Californian's last hurrah in Negr
I am having an incredibly fun time, and the best is yet to come. If you're out there, and you're wondering if it's worth it to come to Negril, I beg you to push the button. Do it. You will NOT regret it. It's the best vacation place EVER.

Re: An all-new TRAIL OF ASHES exclusive: The Mighty Californian's last hurrah in Negr
I took a long nap and woke up at 1030 p.m., just in time to go to the Jungle. The place is as crazy as ever on Thursdays with ladies free, so there is a girl-boy ratio of about 3-1. A young lady in a red dress approached and asked me to buy her a drink. I did, then she asked for money for cigarettes. I said no, and she simply turned around and walked out of my life.
I had two or three drinks but didn't want to overdo it because I was driving the scooter. I only hung out for about an hour, then made my way home.

Re: An all-new TRAIL OF ASHES exclusive: The Mighty Californian's last hurrah in Negr
It was a beautiful day in Negril on Friday, April 25, the day of the 16th annual Boardie Bash. First, of course, I went spearfishing. There were some big fish. On the way home, I dropped the bag of fish off with Bobo, an old friend, in front of his shop across from Rockhouse.
For breakfast, I ordered some dumplings for the table, as we sat with Chickster and Rasta Stan at Seastar Inn. Just about everyone knows each other at this hotel, a haven for long-time returnees, and the vibe here is beyond cool. It just feels like home away from home.
I talked Tattoo Charlie into renting a scooter. We ate jerk chicken at Smokey Joe’s, and right next to the roadside stand is a shop that rents scooters. Smokey Joe said he knows me and vouched for me, so we got the scooter with no deposit and no credit card, just Charlie’s good word that he will return at some point and pay the bill.

Cool gerry! Love the story about the girl walking away when she couldn't 'get' followed by receiving from people wanting to give.

Re: An all-new TRAIL OF ASHES exclusive: The Mighty Californian's last hurrah in Negr
The boardie party was incredible. There was so many old friends and new ones that I made there. Firefly is a pretty nice place, too. Didn’t see any nudies. After, I headed to Bantons, my old friend up on the Cliffs, where Keith from Philly was hangin out and talkin’ politics, which he loves to do. I saw Jodie again, my ex Negril girlfriend whom I haven’t see the past few trips. It was good to see her again. She looked really beautiful.
I headed to Westender Inn, then back to Bantons, then back to Seastar Inn, as I ran into Westender server Sheldon along the way. He was riding his bicycle. He loves working at Westender, and he is a holdover, as there has been a lot of turnover on staff lately, not sure why.

Re: An all-new TRAIL OF ASHES exclusive: The Mighty Californian's last hurrah in Negr
Sheldon is a great guy, have missed him the last several trips, not sure if he still works at Negril Escape as well?
