I've been waiting for this.........................:o
Is it normal to have a tight throat & tear up w/ joy by the sight of these photos? Because that exactly what I did when I seen the butterfly picture. I mean, it was so clear, you could actually see the EYES on the butterfly. Talk about great photography...Sprat these photos made my heart skip a beat....literally...took my breath away.
Absolutely lovely, Sprat! Can't wait for the Portie pictures....my favorite part of the island :)
{{Sprats}} nuff nice ~
Well....I'm back to post more photos for you and continue on our way to Portie. We had decided to stop in at Somerset Falls on the way, but it was Sunday and heard that it was family day, so weren't sure if it would be too busy. A few drive by shots along the way...

The driving to Portie was great. The roads are wonderful...windy and hilly, yet easy going. It was our first full day of driving and I was now relaxed and taking in all the breathtaking scenery. From the coast line, to the mountains ...through the plantations, there was so much to see. We stopped for a couple of patties and them while we drove our way across the island.

It was Sunday...so the roads were pretty quiet but all the likkle towns were full of beautiful women and children dressed in their Sunday best. I love Sundays in Jamaica :)

We arrived at Somerset Falls...and the place was almost empty. Lucky us...not big crowds or tour buses, so we waltzed right in, grabbed a drink and sat by the falls. We ordered some jerk pork and jerk chicken and soon come, so we went to the top of the falls for the boat ride.

I was snapping photos while hubby walked the stairs to the top of the falls where the boat rides were. I arrived just as he was talking to the young man who did the likkle tour of the falls.

As I got a likkle closer...I could see the good looking man standing by the boat. I fumbled with my camera while I was trying to capture his photo.....

I was ready with my camera in place as this good looking young man turned towards me and flashed a smile that would melt any womans' heart. I snapped the photo... ( didn't think I should keep snapping away....lol ) as he introduced himself as Greg. What a lovely young man, who seemed to love his job! :) I gathered my composure....as he took my hand and helped me into the boat, my husband smiling all the while...knowing just what I was thinking...hahaha.

The boat ride was very short....it took us close to the waterfalls and there is a cave there which I assume you can go into. That wasn't part of the ride, but I was fine with that as it was pretty wet close to the falls. It was lovely with the cool air from the water, the gorgeous long vines hanging everywhere and the water falling down the rocks all around us. I couldn't contain my smile....with two good looking men at both ends of the boat! :)

And that Greg... Very good looking young man indeed
*ahem* I have to be careful what I write here with Markus looking over my shoulder haha!;)
The waterfalls looks amazing!
Beautiful!!! And that includes Greg!!! What a smile, it lights up the entire boat without a doubt. Opps, sorry, both men were very handsome. You were indeed one lucky gyal!! More, more please!!
We're back on the road, and the next stop will be Portie and the comfort of our hotel. A few more pics as we enter into PA.

oh man your pics are simply stunning!!! And that young man is foine! :D
By the time we arrived at the hotel we were exhausted...I do believe the late Saturday night at Duncan's Bay...dancing and partying the night away was finally catching up with us. We didn't have long to relax as we had reservations at GeeJam and we wanted to get there before sunset to look around.
When we arrived we had a drink at the bar and we ventured down the many steps to the recording studio. The was a young man from England doing some recording work, and he let us come in and look around. He said that Rihanna and Drake have recorded there a few times.
The view from the Bushbar restaurant was gorgeous....

We wined and dined, but in all honesty the food was just average...not quite what I would have expected for the reviews we read and especially for the price. I have put together and styled more exciting dishes ( if I do say so myself...lol ) for half the cost. In hindsight, we might have been wiser to go for a drink and lunch.
But we made the best of it..,,, I ordered the jerk shrimp and hubby had a mayo lobster dish.

We had plans to get up bright and early and head for Long Bay Beach and work our way back.... :)
We woke to the sweet sounds of the birds singing outside our balcony. The Bayview Villa was very nice and a great location for traveling around Portie. Breakfast was included and the food was great.

We hopped in the car and headed towards Long Bay. The roads winded around the coastline and the views and scenery were stunning. This was the first photo of the morning I couldn't believe my eyes when we pulled up and I got out and saw the most picturesque island with gorgeous turquoise waters.
Monkey Island...

We had now reached Long Bay Beach.....

It was a perfect time of the day....the beach was basically deserted....open air, sand beneath our toes...and the gorgeous blue waters .....

Down the beach we noticed a couple of bar/restaurants on the beach....so we drove down a bit further to get a cold ting. We met a nice young man and a rasta selling jewlery on the beach. Such nice and friendly people....it was a pleasure chatting and spending time with them.
I gave the rasta a couple of dollars for the beads in his hand as he didn't have any braclets and I wasn't in the market for a necklace.

We simply loved Long Bay beach....but it was time to move on to the Blue Lagoon :)
absolutely wonderful Sprat!!
Wow, all these fantastic photos are pulling at me to return to Portie.....I miss it so much! Thanks, Sprats!
Sprats - your photos are wonderful .. didn't you just love Portie??
Thanks for the stunning images of this area. I am longing to visit there!
As always, vibrant engaging Photography!!....looking forward to further postings....
Thanks everyone, we sure did love Portie Laurel...beauty around every corner. I loved the historical culture, the laid back vibe and the pristine beaches.
On our drive down the coast, we were so excited to get on the road that we forgot to go into to town and get some money. It always seems an issue to get money in Jamaica...they want you to spend it, but the irony is...We all have a hard time getting it! lol
We decided to stop in at our hotel on the way to town...regroup, do banking and then head to Frenchman's Cove for lunch, which actually was just down the road.
What a gorgeous spot this is. The waves had been high and the sea angry for the past couple of days....but it was still gorgeous. I have only seen photos of the Cove when it looked still like a sheet of glass....but it was far from calm on this day.

dang so geejam was a kind of bust
at their prices they probably don't have enough visitors to get feedback on the food
and knowing you - you can put together a mean meal
The cove was a small area with a restaurant and great service. As soon as we arrived we had lounge chairs and a table delivered to our chosen spot. We went up and put in our order for drinks and food. In a few minutes our drinks were delivered to us on our loungers.

Hubby ordered the barbecue chicken with fries....oh why do I so love fries in JA....lol
http://i1047.photobucket.com/albums/...s/IMG_0981.jpg
I wanted breaded fish... ( snapper or grouper...can't remember ) but it came with rice and peas, pasta salad coleslaw and callalloo and it was scrumptous. We shared as it was far too much for me. Hubby and I lazed around happily drinking and eating at Frenchman's Cove watching all the people...

Looking back at the food pic from Geejam, that shrimp plate REALLY was begging for some green on it....know what I mean?
In front of us were a couple of young girls, Europeans I believe and they were with a large group who sat farther back. The two ladies were posing for their gentleman friend, and I can never pass up the oportunity for a photoshoot....whether they knew it or not! ;)

sprat, all the times i've been to frenchmen's there has been very few ppl, lots of times, i've been the only guest . . . glad to see more ppl . . . love all your portie pics, by far, my favorite jamaican place . . .
After lunch I walked over to the other side of the beach where the river feed into the sea. The water was a gorgeous aqua green colour and felt like a wading pool...cool and refreshing. I saw a couple by the swing, playing in the water and I chatted with them for a bit. I learned that they had traveled from Sweden for their first time....got a car and were traveling the island :) How adventurous they were and actually a very good looking young couple.
http://i1047.photobucket.com/albums/...s/IMG_0989.jpg
Of course, I asked them to embrace for a photo...and they obliged with sweet smiles :)
