American has a non stop coming home and thats what I really want. Cheaper flights have lay overs that aren't too bad but don't really want to do them with Daniel. May have to though. Any input on layover with a kid? Anyone?

You have nerves of steel, Clarity! You go, girl!
lol! - thanks tfw73
Truth is, I have no choice but to wait. I can't afford any of those prices. ;)
If I DID have the money, I probably would have booked tickets for an April trip months ago!
I'm not usually a risk taker and I don't recommend that everyone adopt my approach. If you have the funds, secure that ticket now.
but I have a good feeling about this!
Delta,
I have no advice but I would think changing flights with a baby would be ALOT of work. And he will probably be cranky because of his lil ears popping from going up and down so I would say do direct non stop if possible. And you know when you come back on a connecting flight it is such a process...collecting your luggage and rechecking it.
Wait! What?? Collect and re-check?! Oh hells no! Nope not for me. I'm watching my price. Right now its 617 (last week it was 577). I'm hoping it goes back to what it was and I will be happy. Very happy!
One helpful word of advice if this is your cute little one's first time flying.
Have a bottle ready and give it to him right as the plane is taking off, it will help with his ears popping when the plane takes off and goes up in the air.
Thanks Marley. He has flown once but he was a really little guy then and was sleep so I don't think he even realized we were anywhere different LOL.
Oh well that is great then!
The first time I ever flew I was only 2 months old and my mom said when the plane took off my eyes got so big like they were going to pop right out of my head! LOL
air fare is through the roof this year, costing wife and iI 800 apiece this year and we booked months ago
I traveled alone with my daughter a lt when she was a baby, and once we missed our connection and had a 7 hour wait. An airport is a fine place to entertain a little one for a day, she loved all the sights and sounds, plenty of places for her to crawl around and explore, we ate a nice sit down lunch ( with a glass of wine for moms nerves ) hit the bookstore, etc. it wasn't ideal but it sure wasn't a big deal either. It's all in your attitude! Now being stuck in Sangster well that's a different ball of wax!
Thanks Bro. D. Checking the flights individually, the flight going is less than $200. The killer is the flight coming back!!! I'm gonna probably just suck it up and pay the premium for a non-stop flight. Daniel's comfort is more important. The mom in me knows this but the cheapskate/deal hunter in me says the price can be and should be cheaper!!!!
Thanks Jbizek! That's what I needed, a mom that has done it. I'm still holding out hope that the price will decrease some in the next week or so. Clarity I don't think I have the patience or the nerves of steel to wait til the end of the month!
Yes hun... when you fly a connecting flight back you have to go through immigration, grab your luggage, go through customs, recheck your luggage and then go back through security and to your gate. If you go through a large airport like Miami or Atlanta...it can take about an hour or more to do all of that.
AND if you purchase any liquor or liquid items that you carried on the plane you will have to put that in your luggage before rechecking.
Delta – I agree, It sounds like a direct flight would be the best way to go with the little one!
I hope you find a good deal for April!
If a better deal pops up, some airlines will refund you the difference.
I’ll just sit here alone, waiting with my “nerves of steel” until the end of the month lol!
Shaggy – Wow! That IS a lot for a round trip ticket. Where are you flying from?
Does anyone know the Airtran discount code off-hand?
Glad to help! My daughter has always been an exceptional traveler but Airports are like malls and quite a few have play areas now. Hopefully it will all go smooth for you but if it doesn't you will be fine. Also having a baby can help if you do miss a flight we were given priority.
It sucks...I fly from LAX..non-stops been gone when Air Jam. left the scene..But cant believe the rates this time..$150-200 more than I usually pay..I was going go in Mar-but said screw it-after i saw the deals Virgin air had non-stop to cancun(which IM NOT going too BTW-going south to Tulum)..But i do have to go in end of June and still waiting for those fares to come down...I even got better fare rt non-stop to San Juan,Puerto Rico in April-by $200 less than what the cheapest flight is to MBJ or KIN...If this keeps up I will be going less to Jam than I usually do every year.
KEEP LOOKING FOR THOSE FARES - some deals are out there!

Thanks Sweet sue...Wont be around for travel by March21-gogin to Tulum..But i will bookmark spirits site and keep my eye on it for future travels to Jam...I appreciate your info..
I just went online to check the going rates for this summer. I have to say, that I am really glad that the new law passed that requires the airlines to display the "total" price for the ticket. It was always so frustrating, not really knowing the exact price. I commend the government for requiring this. It doesn't include the baggage fees but at least I know what they are before I book. So far, the price is about what it was last year....they also give a breakdown of the actual ticket price and the added taxes and fees.
This is the first time that I have checked since our winter reservations were made last Feb, before this was required. Hopefully, soon come!! Hopefully, a nice tax refund would sure help in making the decision. :)
Suzengrace - I know what you mean. It's really hard for us on the westcoast. There is a reason everyone here in CA just goes to Cancun and Hawaii. It's dirt cheap! Those deals are always in my face and it frustrates me. I’m stubborn. I just want to go to Jamaica!
Have a great time in Tulum! You mentioned you want to go to JA again next end of June. I’ll also keep my eye out for cheap airfare from LAX to MoBay!:)\
Yetta – I’m also really glad about the new rules on Airlines. I used to be seduced by false deals.. $320 round trip to Jamaica, then I click on the link and with all taxes the flight became $560! Such a let down! I’m glad that now I know that what I see is what I’ll really get!
Sweetsue – WOW! Man, I really wish Spirit airlines flew out of San Francisco…
This would be a dream price for me…
*wistful sigh*
I feel like my nerves of steel are weakening as I wait hopefully for the “sweet spot” to come so we can book our April flight.
Must… not… lose… hope…. lol
I, too, wish Spirit were in our small city...but, alas, only choice for us is US Airways and Delta. Generally speaking, US Airways always beats the price of Delta. Still lurking around, watching, watching, until it is time to strike!!
Clarity, can you travel to another city to fly?
Tfw73 - I can also fly out of Oakland, but the prices aren't better. SFO offers more flights to JA.
Los Angeles offers the most deals to Jamaica.
Unfortunately it's an 8 to 10 hour drive from SF to LA.
...and we don't own a car. (we live in the city, no point in having one here)
So we would need to pay for a rental car.
I've calculated all the expenses (cost of gas and rental car) It really wouldn't save us any money.
So we just have to keep waiting it out for that six week “sweet spot”
Soon come:)
...I can't wait...but I'm waiting...waiting for it...waaiiiit for iiitttttt....
My click finger is ready too!
Feb 4:
$606 from Albany
$540 from JFK
