I was really surprised how unknown Bentley's is to the locals. I talked to several taxi drivers and they had never heard of him. The driver from our hotel (who sells his crab cakes by the way) didn't know how to get there and I had to give him directions. Bentley mentioned to us that he's lost a couple of restaurants that he used to sell crab cakes to because they were mad that he was also serving them cheaper than they could. It's not just a good meal your getting at Bentley's, he provides and evenings entertainment and education that isn't available anywhere else in Negril. Hopefully his business keeps growing so we can go there every year. Everyone keep spreadin the word.
Well, I've shown Bet the photos of the crab cakes and told her how you folks have been raving about Bentley and it is officially on our to do list. Thanks all for the great info.
Hi there dbrook...I would be happy to take the photos to him. I leave one month from today (Woo Hoo). Let me know and I will message you my address.
Thanks Iriesistah. I have his address now so I'll just mail them directly to him rather than mailing them to you and then you having to deal with it. Thanks for the offer though. Enjoy your trip and say hi to Bentley for us. I'm sure he'll remember us. There were 10 in our party.
There have been a couple comments about Bentley's being off the beaten path, not easily found, and even the taxi drivers don't know where it is.
I am looking at the Negril Map and I see ELLA / PEE WEE LANE and under it in smaller type Bentley's Crabhouse with an arrow pointing to the lane. How far up the lane is Bentley's? (Bet is not into walking) Is ELLA / PEE WEE lane easy to spot?
Being rustic what are the restroom options?
Ella Lane is right next to No Limit Bar if you are familiar with where that is.
Heading up the cliffs it is just a little bit past Blue Cave Castle.
Pee Wees bar is on the right (cliffside) and No Limit bar is on the left, Ella lane is the road right on the left immediately after No Limit Bar
Hope that helps
My guess would be about 75 yards off of the West End road (One Love Drive), so it is just a short walk if a route taxi lets you off at No Limit Bar.
Never used the restroom there because we were staying close by at Blue Cave Castle.
Regards,
Bob
100 yards up a paved lane and Bentley is on da right.......
it's a much shorter walk than say walking from the start of SeaStar Lane to SeaStar Inn.....
Ella Drive is on a sign post at the start of da lane......
as you look up da lane from the West End Road......No Limit on da left......L&M Grocery on da right
Yes down the stairs to the first floor him has a nice bathroom for customers to use........
never heard anyone complain about the bathroom as Bentley keeps it very clean......
the base of the building is actually concrete and the deck where you eat is wood.......
so you have frosty ice cold beers, fantastic food, great company, great views and a nice bathroom.......lol
and mi jealous of all the boardies that will eat der before mi next reach.......
so take a lot of pics........especially of 3 Pound Lobsters.......lol

Thanks everyone. It sounds perfect. I expect we'll stop in early one afternoon to make our reservations for the next evening.
Steps:
1. Call (876) 393-6768 and talk to Bentley who is usually always available on the cellie.
2. Make a reservation 24 hours ahead or the morning of to schedule a set time for you to arrive for your meal.
3. During the phone call, choose the meal of interest. You can always ask him what he suggest.
Of course the Crab Cakes are the number one request but everything is great.
4. Bentley may or may not ask for a deposit depending on the food etc. Deposit can be left in an envelope at the front desk of your hotel or you can drop it off at Bentley's on Ella Drive which will give you a chance to talk to him and have a cold one.
5. Bentley can have a driver meet you at your hotel and the driver will take you to Bentley's or just take a route taxi to Ella Drive or maybe just walk.
6. BYOB is more than welcome if you desire that special wine or a particular cold drink. Bentley has Red Stripe Beer, Red Stripe Light Beer and Red Stripe Bold as well as Pepsi and Wata usually.
just a fair warning.......these meals are large and very filling........
so you might want to go light on the lunch that day........
you can take as long as you want at Bentley's and enjoy the food and vibes der....
some people have been known show up in the afternoon and not leave till after midnight......lol
Enjoy!

It has been mentioned that each meal is individually prepared. Does Bentley have a menu, list of entrees, specials we could look over so we could have some ideas to discuss with him?
Cindy and I are in!! This is exactly the type of place we love and look forward to when we vacation! This o me is how you get the real feel of the country you are in. As it is our first time to Jamaica, me thinks this will be a good choice. thanks for all the input everyone (Marko especially).
Hopefully we can figure out how to get there from seastar, it's alright when you have been before, but I need to get me bearings if you know what i am saying!!
Simon and Cindy.......only 8 more weeks............
pretty sure bentley has no menu... usually he tells you what you'll have! "You will have crabback appetizer- crabcake dinner with the special pasta." One other option I know of is his fried chicken, order a day or two early. He goes- "Come back tuesday mon, on monday they kill the chickens, they KILL them!" alright cool! The best fried chicken no problems!! enjoy
this is what Bentley has posted currently..........but you name it......and he'll make it.........

I was just leaving L&M with fresh supplies of ice, beer, etc and this guy walks up to stick a hand bill in my face which I usually resist when I'm on a mission, especially with a full load of groaning plastic bags.
"I'm Bentley," he informed me.
"You're world famous," I replied
"Yah, mon! World famous."
"We'll be up for dinner this evening."
"First time I'm gonna make you crab cakes."
"Super! Can't wait."
We were staying a Blue Cave Castle (as usual!) so it was a short, but pleasant stroll just after sunset. We were the first guests and staked out a table at the rail along the road. Bentley brought us a couple of cold ones and we kicked back to enjoy the view. Great vista with a wonderful perspective on BCC. I love the ambient neighborfood sounds of Jamaica, especially in a residential area like Bentley's or Wen's just up the way from Out of Town Pastry. Another couple (honeymooners) from BCC joind us at an adjoining table and we all just soaked up the sights, sounds and smells of cooking. This is real home cooking so Bently went to task making everything from scratch. In other words, call ahead or be patient. We drank alot of beers! First the crab back and eventually the cakes. Holy cow! What a feast. I was the onlky one who was pig enough to eat it all. Between courses, a large barn owl flew overhead silently. We all made out way back to BCC and a good nights sleep wit dem belly full.
Heads up ladies, the restroom is a little primitive, but sufficient. Respect --Marblehead

I am a heading to Negril on Friday!!!!!!!!!!! WOOOOHOOOOO!!!!!!! Now that I got that off my chest, I can tell you about Bentley. He does not run a restaurant like we are accustomed to here in the USA. Bentley does not serve a ton of dinners every night so everything is shopped for that day and cooked to order. Many people get turned off to the place when Bentley asks for a deposit with your reservation. This IS necessary because if Bentley does a shop for you in the morning, and if you do not show up, he gets burned. Your deposit is safe with Bentley. I trust him implicitly. I consider him a friend, and he has offered to allow me to stay in his home when I come to Negril.
Many people have talked about his food, and it is great. I posted a couple of youtube videos of Bentley and his dishes from my last trip in April. One night Bentley was backed up with customers, and I helped him serve. He is a cleanliness freak, and made me was-up first. His little kitchen is out in the open and very sanitary. The restaurant is a little way up Ella Lane. I was a little apprehensive the first time I headed up there, but one of the local guys on the street took me up there, and it a very safe and friendly block. In fact I have drinks with the guy every time I am in town now.
I cannot recommend the place enough. He does not know I will be there on Friday, I'm going to call him this week to let him know. I look forward to a few good meals with him when I get there. This is an experience in Negril not to be missed.
Welcome to da board transformer!
wi all jealous transformer.......eat a lot at Bentley's......wi know you will.....lol
him will be real happy to see you again.......have a great time!

"You're gonna get five things on your plate!" Says Bentley :) What a great night! Us, Bentley, his two boarders and some neighborhood girls hanging out on the deck. "You sit back and relax, mon, enjoy the view, and I'm going to cook for you." Hell yes he did! I will write this up in my trip report but this was one of the first post I saw this morning on my return and had to post something. I will also start a thread immediately that I told Bentley I would, it made him and his pro diver buddy laugh out loud.
da five things on your plate........and then he points dem out.......

I told Bentley I was going to post a message about his place. I said it would be something along the line of "What the heck are you doing, go the heck to Bentley's!!" but a lot more emphatic and profane :) I did post a thread with the wild card expletives in the thread title but it didn't pass muster here :) disappeared almost immediately :) Bentley and Andy? laughed when I told them and Bentley said to Andy "See Mon, it's going to happen!" I hope it does for him, it was a magic night. We ate at the Rock Table at Rockhouse and had a night of a hundred candles at Ivan's and I think Sweetie Pie considered Bentleys the most memorable.
Bentley is a great guy. I like Andy too...we chilled at Country Country one afternoon. He showed me some trip tips that I'll put to use for many reaches to come...including how to get a jelly...not a coconut...
A jelly costs ya $100 or so J. A coconut costs ya $300J and dey da same ting. LOL Learn, Brasi!
I also have a iPhone Voice memo of Bentley educating me on the finer points of... AHEM "relationships" .... omg LOL
I hope he's around in April. It will be one of my first stops (for a Stripe...and to order some crab cakes). My time spent there, the food, and the conversations about all things Negril were highlights of my reach.
Booger, I am with you....it's on my list for April
Add us too!
Ok...I will set up a dinner when I land...more on this when it gets closer...including menu items and appx cost, via PM.
You will not regret it! Promise....(edited) and hopefully u guys have fridges in your room...because there is no qyestion you will have an enormous amount of yummy food left over!
SWEET!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And yep, we have a fridge....but I also have a Raul so the first might not be needed LOL
P.S. This April trip just keeps getting better and better! I am so excited!
Woo hoo
I am telling ya...Bentley puts out a huge plate..!
If someone that has it can PM me his number that'd be great...lost it!
Partial copy on one of Marko's earlier posts,
