What about ganja smoke? Or, is that different than cigarette/cigar smoke?
I usually sit off to the side somewhere with the Jamaicans hanging out, never did like sitting with the crowd.
I can handle moving a few feet to get away from someone's music and/or smoke, but what does bug me is when fellow hotel guests do the same thing at, say, the pool area -- that's really annoying.
The beach, you can move on. That said, if a hotel blares loud music (techo/dance or nu metal) that I don't enjoy, it can ruin a vacation.
This is an easy one for me. I avoid the beach and stay on the west end and when I am at the beach I'm hanging out at the bars. I don't want to hear people complain about my smoking while sitting at a bar. That would be a little hypocritical if you ask me. If I don't like the music or the scene...off to the next bar.
I'm easy going and in any situation, if asked nicely, I'll almost always comply with any reasonable requests or move along without any grievance. I can understand why a non-smoker wouldn't want to sit all day relaxing in the sun as a group of sun bathers chain smoked. But an occasional smoke by someone should be easily tolerated. I think the fear of second hand smoke in that situation (i.e. outdoors) is a bit over blown. There are carcinogens in any smoke, even the smoke from that jerk barrel and there is also some evidence that meat cooked over open flame also contains carcinogens. All that garbage that gets burned can also be very carcinogenic. If you’re that concerned then maybe you should be vacationing in a bubble instead.
It's very simple really....If you're in situation that you don't like just remove yourself from it. If you don't have that option then try and work it out with the offenders. If that doesn't work then plead your case to a higher authority. If that doesn't work then it's very likely you are the problem.
Were all just Guests, I don't think of myself as a customer, if anyone harshes my buzz, no prob mon. Lotsa gin joints in town. Cheers!!!
Interesting thread!!!
For the smoking...sometimes I can tolerate it and sometimes I can't. But I'm one of those scarcastic people that will pull out a fan and point it in the direction of the person to keep the smell of the smoke from drifting to me!!!
For the music...I usually hang on the beach that is near a bar and they usually play reggae/soca/dancehall, etc. etc.. But if someone comes and puts on their IPOD speakers or whatever and it's REALLY LOUD then I will ask them if they could turn it down just a bit. But like a stated above I'm scarcastic and I will either tell the bar to turn the music up or start singing really loud to either the reggae music or worse...THEIR MUSIC!!! If it's one of their favorite songs and I am messing it up...they will get the hint!!!

Let me clarify..I used to smoke, so I get it. It's the way you state it here that is off putting not the fact that you want to have a smoke on the beach.
Well Dash? Did your question get answered?
How did a question about the American top 40 turn into a smokers vs non smokers issue?
People just need to chill! Everyones on frickin vacation and when I'm on vacation I like to do what I want to.
I didn't realize that so many boardies got so upset by what everyone else is doing.
All in all if it was me Dash I would probably just move to another location and avoid the hassle or just try to enjoy the Top 40.
Ya mon :)

Ah crap! i'll be there in 3 weeks and now I'm freeking out! I'll be wondering the whole time if my smoking a Jamaica blunk while listening to top 40 reggae music on my old school getto blaster! I'm gonna cancel my trip if you tell me my banana hamick will offend someone!:(
Too Funny. Cheers have a great trip mon!
I don't smoke and don't give a rats behind if others do outside.just clean up your cig butts.Music... We all love music and have our favorites, more so when drinking. But that doesn't mean someone else likes my selection or volume.I like my music loud when drinking,so I put in my earbuds.I believe no one should hear my music.just plan rude. If you keep it up with your loud music that I don't enjoy,me, being a sarcastic, smart ass have some Jimi Hendrix @ Woodstock that when played at excessive volume(Star Spangled Banner)will drive even drunken collage people away.
Partial to Cantonese pop music ... I could just see blasting that on the beach, and throw in some Vietnamese traditional or pop...
Well here is my beach *****. On our last trip a group of 4 adults and lots of kids were at the same hotel as us. Every morning someone from their group got up really early and staked a claim to beach chairs on the first row, with umbrellas. On more than one day they didn't make it to the beach until afternoon. WHAT????? People were coming and going all day, it wasn't as though if they wouldn't get a seat if they just showed up. They had their towels, bags, water toys, etc all over. The bad girl in ME wanted to go and dump their stuff and sit there, but Don said I couldn't!
Yeah, I agree. The towel game is rude.
Saw the same thing when there in February. Folks would come out & claim their chairs & spot early in the a.m. It could be a group of 4, 6, 3. Some days the chairs were never used at all!!! Usually they'd show up mid-afternoon, when they'd show up. I also wanted to yank their towels & free up the chairs for people who were stuck w/out one. It wasn't always the same group doing this but an assortment of people. When there aren't enough chairs to go around, hogging them when you're not using them is just plain rude.
True story, was at a resort trying to find 2 chairs....All I see are empty chairs with no bodies? We see two empty chairs that have two BIG rocks on them. The guy in the next chair(friend)says they are saved????Saved by 2 rocks,,,,we laughed right at his face and sat down....
I generally live by the policy that has served me well in bars, re:bar stools- "You leave it, you lose it!" But since there were other chairs available and since Don wanted me to forget it it, I ignored it. But . . . had there not been enough chairs, I'd have felt obliged to move their stuff over!
