Poor Mrs D!
Heeeeeeeeeeeeeehe!
Ok Murph, sorry to hijack your report for a moment, I have a thing for showering in the great outdoors lol.....
I'm enjoying this so much!! Please do continue
We've been itching to go to canoe and here's we are- sitting one one of the nicest sectionals in the west end. We meet another couple and one of their bdays was that Saturday-woot woot! So we hang for a bit- lil jerk shrimp, onion rings n rum punch... As I'm watching the sea roll in from that softass couch- wifey reminds me sunset is coming soon we should find somewhere...
And so the holy pilgrimage begins... not knowing exactly where, just going a-that-way in search of the perfect sunset. Walking at a steady pace watching the sun on the right... We walk by people we know but gots to keep moving... Oh man the sun is getting too close, we hail a cab. Off the cuff I say- tree dives.
There in no time, pop out the cab to grab a quick stripe and head down to the bamboo bench (am I wrong or is there just something magical about that bench?) Anyway, looky looky - a rowdy group saying "happy bday murph"!!! It was the couple from canoe along with other friends we met at King Richs Happy Hour... Wait a second theres Rob- I think I just walked in on a Webcast! Nice, I do a funny something on camera and head straight down... Here are a couple shots from that night

We grab a roadie and head a-that-a-way... It's my birthday, I have no clue where were going... But we'll get there! And so we did... The Rockhouse... we don't really say anything to each other, we just saw the gate and we banged a right! This is definetly where my birthday feast will be- its perfect. I'm not sure I've been here before- no... I think it's the first time here. Great meal sweet place.
Full and feeling the days damage we strut to Tensing. I love this place- someday we will stay there... we grab some drinks and hit the poolside daybeds. Theres been nights where we've been close to spending the night on these things... There so comfy!
So relaxed... we have a couple drinks, share some laughs with "every time" and hail a cab. Only one place left to go... No Limit! Rum n Tings from here on out. We grab a couple roadside chairs and share stories and laughs. I love Negril... in what other city do you just pull up a plastic chair two feet off a road- face the road... And just have a great time hanging out?
Another perfect day in paradise... Back at HSH, I lie on my porch facing the sea to the twinkling of stars and truly thank the higher power that is looking after me.
Good morning Jamaica! Another early rise and the waves are still choppy. Wifey got me some new snorkel gear so I really want to get out there... But whatevs... So "what do you want to do?" wifey asks... I just felt like getting into the hills- so off the cuff, "Mayfield! Lets call...Chicken!" We met him by chance last trip hailing him roadside coming back from Rhodes Hall and I kept his card- as he is a legend! So I call and "no problem, I have nothing to do today." Perfect! I tell him to meet us at canoe... Im moving real slow today and need java. We stroll down to canoe n get some of that sweet sweet French press n some Jamaican breakfast.
Chicken pulls up and whoa whoa whoa... A thousand Negril.com warning posts run through my head... "Never get in a white plate vehicle". Chickens picking us up in a white plate? I ask him bout it. whattagwan? He explains how the roads are bad, he prefers this ride- a nice Toyota 4 wheel drive suv. I know he has a red plate bus as well as a red plate lil car...and if he says the roads are bad I gotta trust... So we're off. First stop was the pharmacy. Wifey got nomped on by the sand fleas back at seasplash, she got a pill and I think it did help.
Man that road to Mayfield is awesome, what a great drive! I love being in the country- seeing the looks on the little pickney- it's priceless. "whitey!!!" they scream. Especially the looks on the real little ones OO they're eyes light up... They're little mouths drop- I love each of them. We stop at random shacks for stripes and each is it's own little story. I love these roadside huts. They were so surprised (or more confused) when I would toss them a hundred J. Hey where I come from- you open a beer for me- and thats a tip worthy gesture, every time. I love those windy roads with open views and steep drop offs. Chicken navigated them perfectly- this ain't his first rodeo. On the way we stop for a quick photo at The Great House. Here's a great shot of Chicken... Well his finger anyway! Hahaha I then instruct him to move his finger!

We arrive at Mayfield Falls. We pass the first sign for Mayfield Falls and head to the second. Chicken says the first one- the river is harder to walk. Has anyone been at both, just wondering? We grab a stripe by the road and head down to the bar area. Say hello to everyone, pay our entry fee and meet Sheldon our guide. He takes us down to a little bamboo hut to chill and regroup before the river walk. He has a waterproof bag for our stuff and we're off. The first glimpse of the river I'm just in awe...

The way the sun hits it and it shines bright blue. I'm so happy we thought of coming up here. Our first water hole, Sheldon instructs us to jump! He was so good pointing out every rock and every step of the way. A photographer followed us up and took a bunch of sweet shots.

What a great time we had at Mayfield. On the way back we start getting a little hungry, Chickens knows a good spot in Sav, it's in a plaza and is called Kim's. I got the fried chicken and it was awesome... And it was 350 for the large! Chicken got the fried fish- it looked so good, next time I'm getting that. Chicken dropped us off back home and we say our goodbyes. Long day, the entire trip taking 7 hours.
We relax a bit and eventually head out the gate and bang a right. This time we actually did have a destination in mind... Choi Jamaica. I had the chicken picotta and it was heaven. I love ch. picotta and have such a hard time a place that makes a good one.
I was still glowing from our trip to the hills and then this meal... I was one happy guy.

Great report! BTW, when the waves in negril are choppy and you really have a snorkel itch, sometimes it's calmer at Rhodes n Half Moon Beach ....
Terrific report! Love those river shots, wow! Your smiles say it all.
Mayfield Falls with Chicken? Super Bonus!!! Great pics, do you remember the name of your Falls photographer? Was it Eneil? Did you swim through the submerged tunnel?
What a great day Murph - hanging out with Chicken and Sheldon! I am pretty sure we stopped at Kim's in Sav as well. Yup, the 350J fried chicken + rice n peas + pasta salad was to die for!
Cool. Keep going.
Okay, I am exhausted, I can't smile a-n-y-m-o-r-e!
Great stuff, Murph!
Skb
great report mon........keep it up......gotta luv Mayfield Falls.....
Cool Runnings, Marko
Those are some sweet Mayfield smiles...fun times!
Your such a kind soul... You and your wife look like a fun couple! Thanks so much for sharing Jamaica thru your eyes!!
Man I love waking up in Jamaica... we woke up (this being our final full day on the island)and popped a bottle of champagne! Mimosos are served. Water is still choppy... looks like I wont be doing any snorkling on the cliffs this reach. Oh well... we decide to get some grub and head over to Teddy's at the castle.
here is a shot I call "Banana Rainbow" Mmmmmm....

We decide to head over to Half Moon Beach so that maybe I can try out the new snorkling gear. Half Moon is a wonderful little spot. We basically just went there and slept on their cumfy loungers in the sunshine. The water was choppy there also- I tried to snorkle, but could only see the whirling of sand. Oh well- next time I guess...

One magical thing happened at Half Moon Beach... we met two women from Minnesota. This was their first time to jamaica... and it sounded like it was to be their last! Whoa Whoa whoa.... one of them was telling us how great Mexico is... so much cheaper... bla bla bla... I knew we had to intervene and point them in the right direction. I felt bad for them- they really were not liking Negril.. how could this be?
They were staying across the road from the beach, so I knew I had to take them to the other Negril... WEST END! We departed and said our goodbyes, but invited them to join us for Greeny's Steel Drum Band at Canoe later that evening.
Supper time (oh yeah-its Thanksgiving)... we head out the gates of HSH and bang a left. Destination this time is actually known... THE SPA RETREAT! All I have to say about that place is WOW. The staff, the structures, walls, food... everything is top notch- the best part... the prices were actually quite reasonable for such a first class establishment. If anyone is looking for the traditional feast on Tday- they had all the fixins for 50 a plate... we opted for the escovitch and brown stew chicken for 14.
watermelon turkey!

Dinner was great- off to Canoe! I love dancing with my toes in the sand to the sweet sounds of Greeny! We brought him down a nice knitted rasta hat- someone gave it to me as a gift, but I will never wear the thing (cut my dreads off long time ago). Greeny taught us alot about rastafari... I think of his words often "Always let jah lead the way- let him walk one step ahead of you."

Looky looky... its our Minnesota friends- they made it! We toss back a boat load of them rum punches and take a walk up the road to show them some more good spots. Connie was closing up- no worries Connie- have a great night... We show them HSH and then over to No Limit where we proceed to get blitzed! Rum n Tings will do the trick everytime. They are starting to love the vibe of the west end. No Limit was closing up and we popped off this shot- you can tell which 2 are about to leave the island and which 2 just got there!
Attachment 20614
We werent stopping there... we head to the store and get a bottle of rum and some juice and head back to HSH where we killed the bottle and shared stories & laughs. The two from Minnesota ended up moving to the Blue Cave Castle... and now they LOVE Negril! Last day on the island and we saved em- phew! Im am trying to get them to come do a report for you guys- Im sure there perspective will be entertaining.
So tomorrow we leave and Im really not sad about it at all this time... its all good- Ill be back!
Thanks everyone for your kind words and for coming along with wifey and I on our likkle journey! We are truly blessed
