Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
The Red Dragon was jam packed, about as busy as I have seen it, we are just hangin having some Redstipe, and music starts filtering from the road, as it gets louder and louder, I have to get a look, turns out its the Smirnoff event soundsystem van!
Wall of speakers and amplifiers!
The crew starts giving out some free samples of a new flavour of Smirnoff.
I got a cool video i will post later, or its up on Facebook.
Of course being this busy the pork had run out but another batch wwas on the way.
Let me tell you when it showed up it was like a feeding frenzy!
Having already had lunch, i still grab a quarter and woof it down pretty quick! Glad I got some bread!
Time to roll so off I go down the road, so I had spotted a place called Collettes bar on the way up, it was not open then, but was now and packed with tourists, was good to see lots a places busy.

Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
So my plan was to walk down to the beach, but the sky was turning dark quickly, so i jump into a route taxi to take shelter down at the Wild Parrott, the rain came down hard!
Nothing worse than being stuck in a bar on the beach in Negril! lol
Couldnt resist one of Richards margaritas and since the rain was still coming down ended up having two!
We had an interesting talk with a women from Finland who is off on shore leave from her job, she is part of the crew on a small family owned cruise ship, that sails all over the place.
Finally as the rain lets up, I put on my headphones and head off down the beach in th rain showered dark night.
Amazing how empty the beach was after the rain!
About the only place jumping was Sunnyside, Robert is on for Maureen,s one night off, some of these patrons I have met here other times?
Everyone was having a good time there for sure, including myself, ends up they are mostly from Regina, you know the place that rymes with, "fun"
I end mentioning i only know of the place because of a show called Art Man Presents!
Ok so two of the women tell me they were on that episode, wow i just met more famous people!
\Got a picture too!
Back down the beach I go, stopped by Alfred,s as I had a feeling I was gonna miss dinner some how?
I ran into the couple that was next to me on the plane on the way down, so we do the facebook freind thing so we can keep in touch as they dont live too far from me back home.

Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
Loving this report. I don't know how you remain upright for so long. LOL
-
Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
Oh but I forgot about food, I usually always cut back to the road when I get to Bourbon Beach same idea this night.
\They have the place all fenced off for a Glenn Washington show this night, I have a Redstripe and try to decide if to order food?
Not finding anytrhing that stands out, by the way no one seeemed to excited about this show either, maybe because of the rain earlier?
Back down the road I go, rackin my brain for a good food spot on the way!?
I know, I hated to do this but it was just there on the side of the road, and........
I just couldnt get past it......
They have that Grape pop I really like and , well its only one time.....
Yep Burger King it is , chicken club sandwhich, really its pretty good!
I was getting super tired and my feet were tired and swollen, cant fgure out why?
So I make a quick stop at Quality traders for some cranberry wata, and snacks, Yes tommorrow is my last day and this is the first time I remember to get stuff for the room! Oh well what can you do.
Jump a route taxi get back to the room, and figure I am gonn nap, well yeah right, it was eleven already!
So I guess I will call it a early night!
Today is my last full day, although I have most of the day tomorrow.
No plans today, just bright blue sky this morning, maybe the beach?

Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
Last day already - time slips by around here - Hope to run into you today. Plan to walk the beach between W.S. and Sea Splash.
Nice report, gives me a different perspective on my predictable reach.
JT is here.

Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
Wow! That week passed by quickly for me, can't even imagine how fast it went for you :D
You managed to do more travelling in a week in Negril than we have in our trips combined!
-
Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
Yes it went by really fast, Kahuna was good to finally see you on the beach!
As you now know I spent several hours with JT today and have to digest it all, so will post todays happenings in the morning!
-
Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
Last morning in Negril, it was a busy week, so I am looking forward to getting home for some rest, except the weather!
So yesterday after an omlette breakfast here ay Xtabi, I actually laid on one of them lounge chairs and relaxed for about an hour, first time since being here.
Was not sure of a plan for the day, so headed towards the beach for some reason, decided tostart at Fun Holiday as it is webcast day there, had a few Redstripes there, just hangin out as the rain clouds started to roll in.
While we are there in rolls Kahuna,s friend JT, he is heading down the beach with a couple friends from Michigan, I spent some time with last year, Jt was trying to tell me a lot of stuff in a real short amount of time!, and his friends start leaving him behind as the are heading to Sunnyside.
I tell them i will catch up in a bit, as I leave to head there, I finally run into Kahuna on the beach, minutes later JT,s friends are coming back and the rain starts to come down harder, we take shelter and hang out until the rain slows up,
-
Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
By this time Kahuna decides to go back and I move on to Maureen,s bar where Jt is in his usual spot, they had rigged up a cardboard defecter to keep the rain off his back in that spot, will post that picture later!
So now a couple Redstripes later, I realize I dont get to say much while I am hanging with JT!
So we start walking back the othere way until we get to Sunbeach, we both seem to be never at a loss of words! If you know what I mean.
We hang at the bar there for a while and a couple drinks and decide to head back towards Seasplash.
We have a little reunion party there with Rasta Dave and some good laughs as well.
I got a few pictures, and it was not easy, a retired couple at the bar being the photographers, after several unsucsessful tries from both of them I give up!
The whole time we are there there is a wedding reception moving in, as mentioned before JT is shirtless, ball cap,on shoes, and the famous zip lock baggy wallet. I felt as though we were wedding crashers, even though we stayed out of the way at the end of the bar, for the most part.
So now JT asks what are you going to do now.I have no plans.
Want to go back to Maureen,s he asks, why not.
So back down the beach we go.
A stop at Whitesands as JT hears a women with a Quebec accent and has to enquire!
Ends up she is the mother of the reggae singer from the Kahuna posts.
We end up catching a pretty good sunset from the tp deck there, before heading down.
So some more of this Ottawa crew has showed up and they give JT a bit of a hard time before we move on.
Was a good walk to get back down there where now Robert is working,a few more drinks and I decide to work my way back as its dark now.
-
Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
I say my good by,s as I might not see him again this trip.
So now I am able to catch a past last call two for one dirty banana at Yellowbird, after a brain freeze or two, work my way back to the road catch a cab, and head to Sunset After Dark for a light dinner, cuury pepper shrimp salad!!
I see the Finland girlthere with her friends, very interesting how they eat lobster, not a crumb left just the shell!
She says thats how they eat there no waiste, they eat fish like that too, only the bones are left!
I was there for quite some time then taxi back to Xtabi, where I can hear the live band still playing at 3Dives, I feel the pull to head over but just couldnt do it!
Eleven oclock and I am done again, must be almost time to head home!
-
Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
Hey PoolGuy, thanks for letting us tag along -- living vicariously through you is closest I'll ever get to that kind of action! Maybe you'll find a good deal and come back while we're there in March. Your posts made me think of my story that made you laugh last year about the beach guy who was giving out a hard time last year to the big fat man as he past, with me behind him -- and then he turned on me. I can't even recall the whole story, but it made me lol. Safe travels home.
John if you are lurking, glad you are back and enjoying yourself.

Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
So there is one more day, but this is a non drinking day as I am flying out at 8:15 pm.
Started off the day with another of them western omlettes at Xtabi, they are really good!
I figure I will start out with a little sun time on one of them lounge chairs over by the cliffs.
I have a few things to do before I leave, like change some money and make one pass down the beach. I always change money before i leave for the next trip. I have officially pushed back my checkout until two, but am going to try and milk an extra hour out.
I walk down the west end road soakin up the view all the way, exchange comments with the usual cast of characters along the way.
I notice it seems to be little quieter on the road than usual.
Finally caught up with Connie, have not seen her all week either, she says she was around but I never saw when passing by, we talked for a while and got caught up.
I made a stop by Susan,s bar "Natura Mystic" I felt bad I never got in a night visit for some Redstripe and the conversation. Susan has started an expansion to her bar as she needs more exposure to the road, for any one that has been there you know what I mean.
After a grand tour and getting filled in on the plans, I have a video to show the location, will gget that up tonight.
Finally make it to the cambio, by the roundabout all locked up! "change money" "change money"!!!!
Nomon! I say I was ripped by you guys before! Not me they reply, so the cambio is closed because its "hash wenesday"as every Jamaican calls it, lol
So I catch a route taxi down to Bourbon Beach as that cambio is closed too. "change money" "change money" I explain again about being ripped before, so I get the dude to hand me the Ja dollars and I count it three times very carefully before giving up that $100 crisp plastic Canadian bill! lol
Too funny though as I am finishing up ( I would not recomend this to any one ever, I shoulda went to the chinaman store, they give good rate too) so this white dude with a pony tail comes over "heymon you didnt give me the right amount! "
Any way I got out of there laughin a little as there was the proof why you dont change money on the road!

Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
As I was walking away the exchange was getting a little heated.
So now I am on the beach its a beautiful beach day too bad I am leaving for 3 weeks hate to miss these kid of days!
I stop to say goodbye to Maureen and this dude that I talked to every day there, she is quick mon, she had an icy cold Redstripe in front of me before I said a word!
I thought I might see JT here but he hasnt made his stop as of yet.
So after I finish my stripe, I wander up the beach a little farther.
Time check shows I should be getting back to clean up and check outa my room.

Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
OK so I am gonna finish this and then post some pictures I just uploaded, there are some video clips, not sure what i was thinking, but unless I can bleep out the foul language,I wont be able to post!
So back to the story, I get back to Xtabi, after 2 so I smooze a little more and ask " how about I get a sandwhich first before you kick me out?" I got a look, but got the OK.
So am on overtime with the late check out now, across the road I go, order up a clubhouse, $7 not bad and came with a good load of fries!
Woof that down quick, and back to shower and shove my stuff back in the suitcaes!
Had to wait a bit for my ride and my plan is to stop be the Wild Parrot, and have a drink and say my goodbyes.
So they bought me a margarita, so much for the no alcohol day!

Alright so will make the rest quick so as I can post some pictures of the good stuff!
So after hangin there at Wild Parrot about an hour or so with the regular crew there, off to the airport, only took a bout an hour light traffic as it was "hash wenesday"
There was a huge crowd in Mobay for the Seafood festival there.
Anyway smooth check in, and no more outgoing immigration at MBJ!
Get my bokkle o rum, some food and off I go!
Into YYZ toronto 10 minutes early!
So now they have automated customs kiosks there! for real!
You insert your passport and immigration form, out comes a receipt and yyour on your way!
Anyway the roads were good rolled back up the driveway at 4:30 am, and at least there was no snow left!

Where the old smoking lounge was, now is a DQ.
A new drink, snack, and sandwich counter.
This my favourite overpriced airpot food, at Bobsled cafe, its the chicken bacon ranch with onion rings!!

Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
You've got my curiosity up now....explain more about this "outing immigration" change. When we left in early Jan, things were same as last year. But, things are changing so very quickly now days. Anxious to hear more..
-
Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
They just phased out outgoing immigration, for tourists, after check in at airline they staple that other piece of immigration card to your boarding pass and you go straight to security, they remove it at the gate when you board!

A little Negril history, at Arthurs bar.
We had Redstripes here in 1990, worth a stop every time.
The photo is the first tourist to Negril, from Los Angeles.

Re: Trail of Bottle Caps, feb 2013 edition.
Oh man! I would love to see Risky Business open back up. I have fond memories of hanging there in the late 90s. But now I miss it since it only opens Spring Break time when I'm not there.
