I'V been called the polish prince for years by friends, kin of a joke thing. In jA many years ago a guy gave me the name RAS STAN after hearing me called the the prince. Said I have a rasta heart , what ever that means...lol
Nice ride "INDY"
Marley ... I often wondered where the 9808 came from! Have actually tried to figure it out ;) My sister lived in HI and that 808 thing never crossed my mind!
I think I've seen you post of FB, and I've wondered who you were on the board! Obviously, I'm a Steph ;)
I too have been pronouncing your name Y P ohhgeee ... no idea why!
Doc ... Fixing vintage instruments must be very cool! I can't wait to meet you, and destroy you ... of course :)
Lisa ... When I would tell Gary what so & so said on the board last year, I always said your name "Been Web" (because you were doing the webcasts, duh), until I finally asked you how you pronounce it! Love your story & the ending is great.
Good thread Rina ... Lot's of great stories!
Ours was named after our beautiful little Bengal spotty cat, Hobbes!
LOL Steph!
Guirigay actually had a very clever guess as to where the 9808 came from
He thought it stood for the years that I first went and Ninja and I first went
After he said that I realized it was fairly close.
My first trip to Negril was in 1999 and the first time Raul and I went together was 2008, so pretty close! I would change it to 9908 but that would require way too much work LOL
As the daughter of Jimbo, his and my avitar says it all. everytime my Dad sees a monkey he will Yell MON KAAY!
My Dad is a bit strange.
Mine comes from the 10 years I spent as a professional wrestler. I can be easily identified on the beach as I am 6'4 and the size of a OL in the NFL....and my name is tattoed on my left arm with a big black skull. The big bald head and perma smile in Jamaica probably help as well! :)
Originally it was a nickname given to me by friends growing up. Shortened version of my maiden name. Now If you've met me in real life then you understand why this is fitting LOL
tiz·zy noun \ˈti-zē\
Definition of TIZZY
: a highly excited and distracted state of mind
So you see, I am Tizzy and i live in Austin, TX
^ Most appropriate and accurate nickname I have ever come across!
:)
LMAO! I am going to have to explain to my co-worker why i just spit on the computer screen.
Hey Steph. Seriously funny you thought the same thing.
Sweet ride:)
Every story is so awesomely entertaining! What a great way to kill time on my "Friday".
And I totally agree with Marley as well. Tizz is definitely a Tizzy;)
Gee, mine is so boring... I'm Nicole B... I'd come up with something more interesting except I'd have to remember it!
I name all my cars and my first vehicle was named lutely after abso - $%#^&* - lutely during a slightly altered conversation I was having with a passenger the first time I took her for a spin.
Great thread RinaKim - loving the stories. The names mean a little more now with some background...
Ours is fairly simple, we are a pair of nuts and we love to travel
When I first joined the travel boards, I had a wonderful 13 year old shih tzu named Coco. I started as cocosmommy on TA and shortened it to Coco by the time I joined Negril.com.
My name was given to me by some Spanish friends who lived with Sweetie Pie. Guiri's - prounounced like this - http://www.forvo.com/word/guiri/ - are generally Northern European tourists in Spain. It's something of a derogatory term. They wear silly shorts and sandals with socks and are always terribly red from sunburn because they are, well, Guiri's. We're sitting around one day goofing and I have on a pair of white socks with my jeans. Apparently a huge European fashion faux paus. Violeta looks at me and starts laughing, "Oh my God, you're a Guiri!" Our other friend Laura laughs back, "You're right!" From then on I was Guiri. A few weeks later we come home and Violeta and Laura are just having a giggle fest. For the past few weeks whenever they wanted to rib me (which is a target rich environment, let me tell you) They would say, "You're such a Guiri guy!" When we ask what was so funny Violeta says, "Well I just love heterographs and we figured out a great one. You know how we're always telling you that you're a Guiri guy? Well you're also a Guirigay!" pronounced like this - http://www.forvo.com/word/guirigay/ - and then they had great fun giving me the explanation - http://dictionary.reverso.net/spanish-english/guirigay - and it was pretty hard to argue with them.
Sweetie Pie has always been my Sweetie. One morning when I was leaving the house I said "Goodbye, Sweetie Pie!" Violeta loved this, "I've never heard that one! I love all these rhyming farewells you Americans have. You know, See you later, Alligator - After a while, Crocodile!" and then, a few moments later she is ecstatic, "Oh my God! Guirigay and Sweetie Pie!! That's it!" And it was...
When I first started stalking this message board (before I created an account), I always wondered how everyone came up with their names. Haha
Mine is pretty simple... I have (had) three black cats. It's also the name of my jewellery business.
I'm known to and by the locals as "Big Man" but neither for my height nor my... I am simply a man of the large, economy size. So, being a father and grandfather "Big Poppa" was a natural fit.
My mom thought it would be clever to add an extra M to my name. Sooooo for as along as I can remember I've been Timm with 2 M's.
LOVE this thread~~
While my name is kinda self explanatory.... it was changed a few years ago by Bnewb(Lisa) and ScottandJanet. I started out here as "tinglover" since I love Ting. But it always sounded creepy to me... well maybe it sounds wrong if you have a dirty mind (like I do). Well one day at Aqua, I mentioned to Lisa and Janet that I hated it and didn't like being called "Tinglover". Lisa asked what I would rather be called. I said "Sam has always worked for me". So I became "Sam I Am".
LMAO
That's what he said ;P
I was 1 of the person's who had dealings with bringing the limos to Coral Seas. After my 2nd year of finding da beach while walking all the locals say I know u mon your the Limo Mon ! Now after 12 trips they just call me Limo, typical JA style. lol
I like this thread.
My name came because my name is Maxine and I have been called Max my whole life.
Many years ago, before you had to login to post on boards, I made my first post ever on the Internet on a Playa Del Carmen board. Immediately, the next post came saying something like, "That was not me. I did not post that. Max" So, since I was so new at this stuff, I began to post using my initials. After about a year and having not seen even one more post by the other Max, I posted again using the name Max. Immediately, the other Max posted and was not happy. So, I added the 2 after Max and I have been max2 for many years and on many boards.

The reason behind my board name....Sadie & Chance, my two chocolate labs.
Island Girl came from My Folks...since I have been fascinated with all things Island and Tropical from a young age. Harry Belafonte (from Trinidad) was my favorite singer, singing old folk songs about Island Life... Mom and Dad entertained a lot, and at least once a year they would have a Luau on our farm- only we lived in Minnesota LOL. Anyway I was their "Island Girl" singing and dancing and-being very limber- always the star of the Limbo contest LOL.
Well my name is Frank and Big Frank just sounds better than Fat Frank
I have always been and avid duck hunter. The crew that i hunted with was much younger, and more athletic than i was.
Consequently I was slower, and usually at the back of the pack. They started calling me rusty.....and that morphed into
rustedduck.
I have my Negril shirt with Fred Stripe on the front pocket so when the guy at the beach bar ask what I want,I just point to the pocket....They love it.... I also answer to "Hey You".
Negril is a drug to me. Can't enough of Negril and Jamaica. Therefore NegrilAddict. lol
Before I registered on the board I logged into a webcast chat as simply "Kevin" (my RL first name) and everyone thought I was another Kevin so I started using Kevin, PA because I'm from Pennsylvania (not Port Antonio like some have thought). If I had to do all over again I'd use Thing3 or Sneadmaker which I usually use online. Both are Dr Seuss derived names that I've been using long before I registered on this board.
Our names plus the year we were born. Boring I know. I have used it for years for everything for email and many other online account names.
I once decided to shake things up a bit and create a new email address. gregandkelly1983 (the year we were married)
What can I say? I'm not the creative type! :)
on my first trip to jamaica,30 years ago.it rained, and that is what stuck to the bottom of my feet
I am a motorcycle nut. In wwII the British were called Limey's. I have 2 British motorcycles. Limee times 2...limeex2.
My father or mother would call me Lady Jane
when I was in trouble. My real name is a boys name
Shawne
Loving reading everyone's story behind the name!
Next mission, put the name to the face.
April soon come ;)
