Crusher,
Is that at zip-up Red Stripe cozy? If so where did your wife find it? I've been looking for a replacement for years and haven't been able to find any. Mine wore out, possibly from over use. I'm really enjoying your great pictures and trip report. Many thanks!!
I can't believe you broke your leg on a previous trip! OUCH! Poor you!

Its actually not bad it healed clean was lucky I didn't need surgery or anything like that. I was a wrestler all through high school and university...then spent 10 years as a professional wrestler....so I have other issues like an Arthritic Hip. Nothing like letting your friends smash you with steel chairs for fun! :)
So we are on Day Four of the report I guess.
It was a Monday...the best one that I have had in a while.....lol! We made no plans today other than we were going to spend some time on the beach with some friends. It turned out really well I love it when no plan comes together!
Morning started off early at around 8AM as we took our guests down the beach with us. We snacked on some Banana Bread and other stuff that we had bought the day previous from one of the vendor guys who goes around selling baked goods. I have to tell you there is nothing like sitting 10 feet from the ocean eating breakfast. I highly recommend it to everyone. :P
It was another nice day with a little breeze but lots of sun and a little cloud to help us not burn too quickly. We met a guy on the beach who crafted some bracelets and anklets out of phone wire for us. Its significant because I am about to celebrate my 10th Anniversary at the local phone company that I work for and our best friend that we travel here with works there too. She came in February as we weren't sure we were going to be able to make it this year so I made sure to get her one as well. I like the symbolism involved as I am proud that I work where I do and that it affords me the luxury of traveling to a place like Negril every year.
Brenda has been frequenting the gift shop that is right by our chairs on the beach as she lives to shop. She likes unique things so she's pretty discerning when it comes to buying stuff. We always hold out on shirts and such until we get to the Sun Island Outlet store but there were some things that intrigued her so she bought them.
We got lunch from Ossie's across the road. We had the Jerk Chicken and the Jerk Pork. Both were good....the pork was made from pork chops which made it very crispy. The lady looked at me when I added the 'hot' stuff to my pork. It was pretty hot but just the way I like it. As I was finishing up the Jerk Pork guy from the beach walked by so I had to buy some from him too. I got the Rasta with the sauteed Scotch Bonnets. I showed the boys on the beach how to eat them on their own. I think they were impressed....or maybe they just thought I was nuts!
After a whole day on the beach and a few too many stripes we went back to the room and chilled. We haven't really gone out on the town or anything but I am sure we will remedy that soon. Like I said its been a good relaxing vacation and chill most of the time.
More pics later when I get my laptop charged....yeah its been one of those vacations.....haven't plugged it in yet! :)

Rasta Jerk Pork from the Beach Vendor
Leighton is the Bread Guy ( baked goods). "Ring Ring, the telephone guy"
Dean is the jerk pork vendor. And I can't believe you are eating scotch bonnet peppers raw!
Yikes. Will keep my eyes peeled for you and Brenda
We are not far south from you on the beach. We go home the 29th as well
With those picture I know for sure vacation is so close I can taste it... I have been know to eat some raw peppers as well. How do scotches compare to Habeneros? I am assuming they are about the same. Thanks for the report.
Yeah they are a little sweeter and a bit hotter!!
Nice report!
Great trip report and pictures :) Ossie's Chicken looks delicious!
Well I guess this is day five....two full more days left and a half day on Friday. It doesn't seem like its going too fast and I think its because we are kind of doing it just our own way this year. There is no where to rush, no sites to see, no worries mon.
Tuesday was a good day. Brenda and I planned on having a bit of a shopping excursion so we could pick some stuff up for the Grandkids. Brenda started out early and took a route taxi down to the Times Square Mall. She found a fabulous dress there that she fell in love with and bought it. I waited back in the room for our brother Doc to come. He showed up early.....must be the Canadian influence in him! LOL!! We were off to pick up our friend Karen from Hedo as we promised her that we would take her to some of the not so beaten trails when it came to shopping. She has teenagers and younger kids so it would cost her a small fortune on the resort to get them all something but we had just the cure for that.
We picked Brenda up at Times and made our way to the round about. They shopped at some of the shops that are to the left of the round about and found a few things they really liked. We then went to a dress shop in the mall by the HiLo that is run by a flamboyant Jamaican man who recognized my wife immediately and yelled out for her by name. Its nice when you make an impression on someone that for all of the thousands of people they meet and see that you get called by your name when you enter their shop. She found some stuff in there as well and we moved on to the Sun Island Outlet Store. I am sure most of you are familiar with it but for those of you who aren't its the place to by shirts and stuff like that. They are 10 times cheaper than the shops on the all inclusives and half as cheap as the best stores downtown. Karen was able to get two things for each of her kids and stayed within her budget.
The best part of the afternoon for me was when we made our way up the road to Chicken Lavish. The food was fantastic and we were the only ones there so we got crazy good service and our meals were ready in 25 minutes. Pretty good by Jamaican standards I must say. The food itself was amazing. We ordered Jerk Chicken, Brown Stewed Chicken, Sweet and Sour Chicken and the Curried Goat. Everyone was impressed including Doc and he's a hard guy to please lol! We spent about and hour and half there and my beer was always full and the conversation with the owner was pleasant. We would most definitely go back there for some more food in an instant.
We then took Karen for a drive up the West End Road and showed her all the resorts and the cliffs. We stopped at the Lighthouse so that we could take some pics. Its looking a bit haggard there, wish there was money to do something with the area as it could be so much more than it is today. Its the realities of the culture and I understand there are other priorities but history is important and it would be nice to show off a bit of the history of Negril. We did get some pictures though and headed back down the road to continue on our little shopping excursion.
After we were done we took Karen back to the resort and met the friend she was there with. We got a big hug and a kiss and huge thank yous for showing her something she probably wouldn't have seen otherwise. Translating Doc's patois to English for her made me realize how much I have learned without really knowing it. As the girls shopped Doc and I talked about life and politics in Jamaica. It is some of my most favorite things about being here. I don't know what I would have done if we hadn't been introduced by some of our friends back home. He takes such good care of us. In turn we are generous with our time and resources as well. He deserves it as he's been a boon companion on several interesting adventures over the years(cough cough Scrub a Dub)!
The rest of the day we spent in the ocean. A lot of folks left our resort yesterday so there was like six of us out on the chairs in the afternoon. It was peaceful and quiet just the way we like it.
We dined on our extra order of Jerk Chicken from Chicken Lavish and chilled in the room for the remainder of the evening as Brenda was tired from all the shopping and swimming. She sure sleeps a lot more soundly in Jamaica than she does at home.
Today we are going for a walk down the beach and then out for supper at Sunset After Dark. Must remember to check their Facebook page later to see what they have on the menu. Should be awesome as always.
I will try and post some pics later of the scenery and the lighthouse.
Nice!
Thanks for keeping us in the loop Crusher! Glad you guys are having such a wonderful time.
Now, no more talk about how many days until you have to go home!
Nice hat:) the food looks great!
Thanks for the contiuing report and all the pics. I wonder if you could tell us where Sun Island Outlet Store is located?
The Sun Island Outlet is on the West End Road just before the Canoe Bar on the inland side of the road. Its a small building but there is lots of parking.
I will finish the report and add more pics when I get home the last two days have been pretty chill.
We all appreciated your onsite reporting. Not many are willing to do that. Loved tagging along. Enjoy your last days totally unplugged.
