Ok, so I'll admit I too have an excel spreadsheet, the Vacation Packing List. It has different tabs for different types of vacations... I too check things off as I pack them :) I tend to only forget things once, then it goes on the list for the next time...
for me the spreadsheet started as just a clean way to write/sort/organize my list ... it's evolved into a pretty effective planning tool -- one column is even a Hi-Lo shopping list for when we arrive! Call me crazy...I've been called worse... :) but, it makes for a nice trip and those who travel with me are happy and content, too!
mini meds cabinet -- I use a pill reminder thing -- instead of something for each day I have 1 section of aspirin, one of Advil, one of Benadryl, etc. The one I use is like this: http://www.walgreens.com/store/c/ezy...143459-product ...
I'm pretty organized when it comes to packing (kinda on the OCD side like some of you!). I always bring lots of baggies in different sizes (as mentioned, they are great for everything, including leftovers!), a small flashlight, a couple of clothespins (you never know when the curtains won't close all the way or you need to hang up a wet bathing suit), a small roll of black electrical tape (yes, crazy, but it has come in handy!), a few safety pins, bug spray, a nightlight, mini swiss army knife (only if checking a bag), and always an extra pair of sunglasses!
A few trips back, I was staying at Tensing Pen and I brought a couple of inflatable inner tubes that had plastic handles on them. I also brought some polyester cord and a couple of caribiner clips, and was able to run the cord through the handle of the tube and tie it to the caribiner, which I clipped to the metal ladder on the side of the cliff. This way I could float around without worrying that the current would pull me away! When all collapsed, the items didn't take up any room at all and they were great to have. I plan to do it again for my trip next week!
Bunch good ideas,11 days can't come soon enough;)~
I make a list too- start making it months in advance and adding to it as I think of things then cross reference it with the lists from previous trips.
One thing we always take is bubble wrap sheets- to wrap any breakables/bottles in to bring home.
You guys are good. I do have a list but I'm leaving at 5AM tomorrow and haven't packed anything, in fact I still have laundry to do!
^^^Rut ro!!!~Get busy ohliz!!!!~Soon Come behind ya!!!
I got the laundry going and started a pile :)
Honestly, I do not know how you guys do this. I have seen you and others post something of the same many times. If I packed the night before, one of two things would happen... I would bring waaaaay too much, or end up with nothing at all to wear. I am not leaving for a few months yet, and I already have my st Anthony's duffel full and ready to go, and have my suitcases in the spare bedroom with items like the extra jamaican $$ I found, a couple items that are for jamaica trips only, etc packed... The night before would literally drive me to the point of crazy :)
As we leave for the airport I double check, cash?yep passport?yep,it's all good lets go!
I think I pack the night before - that's what I always do - for several reasons.Quote:

Sometimes I need the clothes I'm packing right up until the day before - some favorite stuff I want to wear both here and there, like my comfy sandals. I also don't want clothes to get wrinkled sitting in a suitcase any longer than necessary. If I pack days ahead, I forget what I packed and have to take it all out and double check then repack. So, for me it's easier to have a list and a plan but not execute it until the night before.
I do put aside things as I come across them that I know I will bring. Like I bought travel-size sunblock and bug spray last week, and it will go in the clear quart bag with my "3-oz or less" liquids (I don't check luggage either, I only carry on). I bought a couple of books about/by Jamaican authors and set those aside awhile back. A few days ago I did the winter-summer clothing switch in my dresser and closet and made sure the clothes I like to wear in JA came up with the summer stuff. I have already gotten small US bills, my passport, printed my boarding pass, etc., and that is all by my backpack. This time I time I will be flying with a terrible cold, so I bought cold medicine and those ear plugs that help protect your ears from pressure change - EarPlanes, they're called. They're by the backpack too.
I did forget one thing I'll have to run by the store for later, and that load of laundry is in the dryer. But I'll be packed before bed, with everything crossed off my list. And as has been said...if i have my passport and money I'm going to be able to handle anything that comes up :)
Happy trails everyone!
No one mention "Insulated cup" I would go back home to get that...
Ohliz - atleast you have a plan for your day b4 packing I still couldnt do it...lol
last April....I stayed up all night....started packing at about 3 am....left for the airport at 5 am or something like that. LOL
As long as the following makes it in the suitcase we good:
Maui babe lotions
bikinis
passport
$$
(However I end up bringing a LOT more than that)
Visine - for those who uh ........ clearing throat........ have allergies. Yeah, that's it - allergies!
meds, a belt, forgot it last time and spent more time holding my pants up, noise machine, wife needs noise besides her ahhhs and moans, and passports, we were all packed one year and at 9pm the night before we started going over our list and when we came to passports...we couldn't find them, last we had them wife put them in safety deposit box at the bank, all I heard for an hour were here cries and how upset she was, then I found them in my office after I tore the house apart, wife went from rock bottom to screams of joy, never happened again!! we always overpack!!
