Good morning Negril! It's so good to see you again! Thank you for a most excellent sleep and waking up on my time instead of an alarm! Serenity!
Darn iPhone! Everybody lean!!!
I thought you took that picture laying in bed!
There are 5 letters in the word Truth.....as in your trip report is real....
Hee hee I leaned. Glad you made it safe and sound. Have a sub and a red stripe and a patty or three or 5 for me please
Wow Fred Stripe! Just wow. Thank you. I've been feeling a bit intimidated working up to a recap of yesterday knowing that all of you reading this are so much better at Negril than me. Worrying that my trip report would be a bore, nothing none of you haven't done before, but what you said is encouraging. It is indeed REAL. Poolguy,it would have looked the same but I had been upright for an hour or two by then. I enjoyed your report by the way! I am pausing on all reports. It will make good reading when I get back and go through withdrawals.
Thanks for leaning with me. Haha. I've made it through a Stripe or two but next one is just for you Lady Jane. Haven't been to Subway yet but I'm sure it'll happen eventually. Hubby can't eat subs so I try to hold off as long as I can. And your patty request is no problem. If that and salt fish were the only things I ate for the next two weeks, it wouldn't bother me a bit. :)
I suppose now is just as good as any to make my debut. We did make it and had a great night at SeaStar last night. Our accommodations couldn't be better. We just finished a wonderful breakfast. PoolGuy, don't let her fool you with this mornings pic, I think it's the Jamaican rum mon! LOL I want to take a quick moment, while I have the attention of many, thank you all for your posts, it has helped us plan this trip and makes us feel like we are experiencing everything with friends, thanks again! Now, back to M's review...
Wow, a tag-team event? How cool is that! Digging the report so far. Maybe the SH need's to intervene periodically if M's report goes all L.C. on us? (wait, did I just make up a new........never mind)
Our first leg of the journey was a flight into Dallas, arriving 15 minutes early. We balanced the early with a flight 15 minutes late into MBJ. Customs moved quickly enough for the mass of people that were there. I miss the good ol' days, used to be land, taxi, grab bags and go. The dear Kingsley was there waiting with a smile. Thank you to all who have sung his praises. He did not dissappoint. Unfortunately, our late arrival was delaying him on his next pick-up which were 6 guests at Samsara heading back to the airport, but for that reason, he quickly and expertly got us to Negril despite heavy traffic. Arrived at our first home away from home with a loaner cell from Kingsley and bid him farewell for now. It was just after 4:30. We checked in, got the wi-fi password, dropped the bags, and footed it to Shamrock for supplies and phone credit. Our first Jamaican cell phone. Never really had a need on other trips but it has already come in handy this time. Bags in hand, we headed back to the room, filled the frig with all the goodies (mmmmm....rum creme....), and got the phone working. By then it was already near 6:00. A bit early for the trip to SeaStar, but if the shuttle was going to be in the area, I didn't want to miss it, so I gave them a call. Henry was within a block of the hotel when I called, so out the door we went.
Off to SeaStar. What a fabulous time and at a great price. The band was lively and fun and Crystal and Sonya were fabulous singers and great performers as well. Sonya called me out, trying to coax me out to dance. I'm sure my face was as red as my hair, possibly more so. I.DON'T.DANCE. I danced the second half of a song at a lounge with SharkHunter about 2 years ago and one slow dance in the sand on our last visit to JA. Oh, and once at our wedding. The only three times I have ever danced. I'm EXTREMELY self conscious when it comes to dancing. I have no moves, no rhythm, no skills whatsoever. I could live with that, but SharkHunter LOVES to dance. Probably the only place where we aren't a perfect match. Anyway, had a good laugh but fortunately Sonya didn't come off the stage and drag me out. I have to admit, I was singing (and possibly moving) as I showered..."Cent, 5 cent, 10 cent, dollar."Those of you who participated in the webcast last night know what I'm talking about. And when Sonya said "Why not? You'll fall? You won't fall!!!" yes, that was me she was talking to. So next came the drummers and dancers. What a treat!!! I told SharkHunter that should be my new workout. I'd be skinny in no time. That, or dead of a heart attack! Those girls wore me out just watching them. So in to the van with Henry, beep beep, vroom vroom, all the way home. Fell into bed happy and exhausted. We had been up for almost 24 hours at that point. A deep, refreshing sleep followed.
And that brings us to today. Here I sit, a belly full of saltfish and callaloo, coffee and rum creme, acclimating to the climate. It's about 10 degrees cooler here than at home right now, and I'm no stranger to humidity, but I'm definitely "glistening."By tomorrow or the next day, I should be used to it, but I'm definitely taking it easy today. I'm so content to just sit on the porch, hear the birds chirp, watch this beautiful yellow and black butterfly flit from flower to flower just a few feet in front of me. As I typed that, a hummingbird took his place. I love hummingbirds. We hang feeders at home but only get to see them for a few months before they move on. Their colors aren't as vibrant as the ones here. So emrald and brilliant. *sigh* Paradise.
Just so M doesnt get in trouble, she asked and SharkHunter DOES want to be in this report!! :p
I'm here 5 years! I like five! --Fadder Jimaica or Jimaica SkyPilot or Papa or Fr. Jim or ??????
This is soo funny I watched the webcast and heard her telling people to come dance were you the one she was asking why and you said no because you didnt want to fall you would have been sitting to the right of the stage if you were looking at it..... it was an awesome cast last nite... also m@G and irie had first time friends there last nite the guy with the blue shirt dancing all happy like was their friend...... I'm really enjoying this report I love tag team couples reports... i hope my other chimes in on our next one... oh yeah i havent pushed the button but i will tonite or tomorrow!!! april here we come lookout rob n lisa I'm GOING to meet you this time I swear!!!
lol i should have finished reading before relpying... lol i saw that... its ok I DONT DANCE EITHER
At breakfast, we heard one of the most beautiful songs we've ever heard which is saying a lot in a land full of music and sweet vibrations. Sitting near us was a young teen all alone singing Jesus Loves Me. The catch was, he wasn't singing - he was SIGNING. Little did we know that same kid would become the highlight of our day...
Sounds like a great start to your trip, have fun.

Last night is hazy. I woke up to this. JK it's just the hotel's recycle pile. We haven't made it to *that* day yet in this report. Haha! Lots to catch up on from yesterday and I've been working on it. I thought the likkle rainstorm would be a perfect time to write but it's too hard to take my eyes off the rain. SharkHunter has returned with his prey - a six pack of stripes an juices. Back to rain watching, I mean trip report writing.
Lunch break!Attachment 30168
PS love the nails.
Just loving this report. Both of you are a hoot.
When I saw the pile of bottles, my first thought was PGW!
Great nails, love the lunch. Keep it coming.
Ooooh how I've missed the Stripe and patty diet!!!
What a delightful read! Really enjoying your duet report. Please don’t feel intimidated concerning your writing or what you write about. Personally what you share is interesting, appealing and well described. You have a comfortable way of writing…brings the reader to seat right next to you.
btw I love rain watching as well.
Made it back from our morning adventure just in time for a likkle rain. Actually a lot of rain. Almost deafening. Puddling in the sidewalks already. I love the rain, especially on the island. It's here just in time to cool us down. Hot and steamy soon come. While its raining, let's take a look back at yesterday's unexpected turn of events.
The pool seemed like a good place to be as it got a little warmer outside so we put on our suits and to the water we went. We had been there long enough to empty a few Stripe bottles and have a few hardy laughs when the young man that was signing at breakfast showed up. SharkHunter and I were both in the water and the kid, soon to be known as King so we'll call him K Man for this report, picked up the beach ball and motioned to toss it to us. We batted it around a bit between the three of us, him on the pool deck and us in the water. I'm not very good, so he was doing more running than anything. Eventually he tells us he's going to go put on his swim trunks so a moment later he's back in the water with us. He stays at the shallow end. We can tell he's not very comfortable in the water but are having lots of fun batting the ball back and forth and laughing. Eventually I feel my skin getting a little over baked so I exit stage left and claim a lounge chair while the guys continue their sport in the pool. At some point the ball game turned in to swim lessons. The K Man couldn't ask for a much better teacher than SharkHunter. It doesn't take long for the kid to show confidence although he still has his moments of temporary panic in the deeper waters. He almost mastered floating on his back but he still needs to practice the relaxation technique. He's a good kid. Funny. After the swim lessons and a little raft lounging for the guys, I go down to our room, grab juice and snacks for the three of us and we all enjoy a refreshment after the tiring swim. We use a notepad on our phones to talk back and forth. He's from Kingston on a before school holiday. After a while we went back to our patio to chat more after we all went separate ways to find dry clothes. We met his mom while he asked if he could visit on out patio with us. Nice lady. We gave him an imported souvenir. We brought with us some crystals we personally dug a few hours from home at a place called the Great Salt Plains. Not highly valuable or anything but they're found no where else in the world and they have a unique hourglass shape of sand hardened in the glass-like crystal. A little piece of our home as a likkle thanks for sharing their homes for those we make memories with on this trip. We give the kid one and our little homemade postcard with the photos of the place and the explanation of what it is. He says (writes) that he wants to give us a gift. We told him his friendship was a gift and we are having a good time. Visited the day away. Many laughs. I use my phone to look up different signs. Since our daughter was born I've been teaching her what little I knew of sign language and learning with her as we went. I realize now the words I taught her were neat - tree, ball, car - but not at all useful in conversation. Thank goodness for phones and wi-fi. I look up lots of words and with pen and paper we all enjoy a fun and memorable exchange and learn a little about each other along the way.
We break in time for dinner but sunset isn't far away so we don't want to go to far. A stop at Momma Flo's seems in order. Our first time visiting although I've intended to for years. I remember reading about her place the first time I visited N.com several years ago and always meant to stop by. Frequent and prolonged cases of hammock gravity had prevented it in the past but not this time. The place was deserted but a kind young lady came out and greeted us. We asked if they were serving dinner tonight. All the chairs were leaned up against the table and no places set. She assured us they were and went around to the kitchen. Momma Flo came out, looked us over and gave a deep glance into my eyes and proceeded to give us the most welcoming of hugs, like we were long awaited visitors, family, a hug that reminded me of my grandmas's when I was a child. Our first sunset dinner starting out like this. This was going to be good!
Damn are we good or what? This shows we are definitely on Jamaica time, we bring you today's news, tomorrow!!! Bring me another Stripe mon!!!! I am here to so say, the wait is well worth the truth, you will enjoy the up coming posts... :D
Lady Jane and bjritz thank you and thank you about the nails - they were my "I can't sleep because I'm too excited to go to Jamiaca" project. Just showin' some love.
We sit down at the table while place settings are quickly on their way to us. We each order a red stripe and devote some time to sun gazing and menu pondering. He decides on jerk pork and fries. I go with pineapple chicken. A moment or two goes by and Momma Flo returns with soursop. A first for us both. Not bad. Looking at the outside, it's not something I'd ever see and find myself wondering if I should try eating it. Looking at the inside wasn't much better. But a pleasant surprise. And interesting that its rather messy but doesn't leave your hands sticky. We enjoyed ours while Momma Flo sat a couple tables away eating hers while two girls in the kitchen started the cooking. Enjoyed hearing her talking to the locals in the alley behind her restaurant. I'll never get tired of hearing Patois - and probably never get very good at understanding either but I sometimes get the gist. After she finished hers, she went back to the kitchen and after sometime came back to present us with our meals. The smell of the jerk pork was a heavenly aroma and mine sat steaming in front of me, moist chicken covered in a sauce highlighted by the distinct flavor of ginger and slices of pineapple. It was fantastic. We each traded a bite, complimenting the other on their excellent choice and returned to our own plates. A few minutes later, I hear SharkHunter sniff a little. The perspiration on his brow has gathered. His face has a hint of red but I don't think it's from the sun. Half way through the plate he's requesting another Red Stripe and his face and lips are exactly that - RED! It takes a lot to make us sweat like that during a meal - we are blessed with many authentic local Mexican restaurants and don't hesitate to order the hottest of anything. My work family is from India and our shared meals usually rank pretty high on the Scoville scale. But Momma Flo's jerk pork was enough to light SharkHunter up. We all had a good laugh and shared sea grapes after dinner. It was a sunset cut short by hazy clouds. Enjoyed seeing people playing in the water - a lot of locals on holiday it seems. Nice to see. The dark came and SharkHunter and I exchanged glances. Time to pay our tab and head back. About that time the song "Lean On Me" comes on. Momma Flo is singing along and SH chimes in. They both sing louder and more dramatically until they are standing, arms around each other's shoulders and swaying to the music, singing a full duet. They agreed tomorrow night, they dance as we said our farewells. What a fun dinner. So glad to finally meet Momma. But the real evening entertainment was yet to come.
WOW!!!! Momma Flo can cook!!! That jerk pork lit me up, but I couldn't stop eating it. The singing was a blast, she has a very good voice. Momma Flo, you better watch out, I'll have my dancing shoes on tonight...barefoot :) Nothing beats dancing in the sand at sunset, maybe one day I will get M to dance with me.
