Re: It's raining Canadians!
Rompcherry has a good point - in the busy season WestJet has 3 direct flights from Toronto every day, AC has 2 + the few charters that remain - that's a LOT of flights every single day :) Most of the time the WJ flights are at least 1/2 Jamaican expats heading home for a visit, the other 1/2 are us pasty white Canadians looking for a little R&R and sun.
BuckeyeJeff - took me a while, wondered how people could eat all these subs and why they'd want to in JA, but think about it. What is small and white and shaped like a submarine and is very popular in JA???

Certainly not JUST the weather. We could go to Cuba, Mexico, or the Dominican for a lot less money. A lot less!
But Jamaica has so much more to enjoy and I don't just mean subs.
Where I live, hundreds of seasonal Jamaican farm workers harvest the tender fruit crops and grapes in Niagara.
They are friendly, open accounts at local banks near my Niagara Falls home, interact with locals in a positive manor and are
excellent ambassadors for Jamaica.
Canada has a huge number of Jamaican immigrants that help make us a diverse and rich culture.
Many hospital nurses for instance, are from Jamaica; expecially the "in-charge" head nurses who provide wonderful care to those hospitalized. I know. I've spent
lots of time in hospitals in the last 20 years.
Canadians have an affinity with Jamaican people and we love Jamaica, even though it costs lots more to visit.
All of our grocery stores carry Grace Products like pepper sauce, coconut wata, ting, and so on.
Canadians love all things Jamaican. That's why we go. Did I also mention subs?
Re: It's raining Canadians!
Yes I forgot about the Jamaican Farm Workers as we don't have many of them in Toronto. I'll vouch for the hospitals though.
Mentioning the flights, when I do fly out to JA in the summer, at least 1/2 of the plane are Jamaican-Canadians going on vacation in their great country.
Hey now that we've mentioned subs, what about our great Tim Horton's coffee lol.
If we had a Timmies in JA, more Canadians would go in droves lol. Unfortunately, they don't do franchises in JA.
I still find it difficult to find a sour sop here .. now and again I come across them in the West Indian grocery stores :-)
Re: It's raining Canadians!
"Jamaican Canadians comprise about 30% of the entire Black Canadian population with over 170,000 living in Toronto and I would suggest that of this # the majority help their relatives in Jamaica."
What an interesting stat. I had no idea that the Jamaican population was so large there.

Re: It's raining Canadians!
I am on the east coast of Canada, that is not Ontario. We have had many, many northeast storms this winter. Currently, March 20th, we have apprx 6 feet of snow on the ground. We love Negril for the people, the food, the music, the culture, the beach. I have worked with Jamaicans when I worked in the Cayman Islands. I really love the people so when choosing a sunny destination Jamaica is my first choice. I do not do All Inclusives so Cuba, DR and Mexico are off my list. I do say I am sorry often but I take that as a positive attribute. And down east we may say aboot, but I am not sure. :-)
Re: It's raining Canadians!
I spent 16 days in Negril during February as I do every year. This year the locals were saying it was around 70% Canadian's visiting.

Here's a little Canadian geograpy lesson (for fun) ala Bob and Doug McKenzie. Notice how they pronounce "about", eh.
