Beach???....There's a beach in Negril????
Hey Lola,
We saw a mare and foal one day up in Red Ground.
They were free ranging it.
The Mother was a buttermilk as I recall.
We were walking back from the Red Dragon.
BTW will someone tell me the shortcut over the hill?
Generally we need something downtown, but a short cut on one end or the other would be handy
I love horses but find the treatment of most horses used for business in Jamaica unacceptable. One day while walking the road a under weight horse with a rider too big for it came galloping past me pounding the hard pavement with no shoes. That poor horse will likely need to be put out to pasture before it's time. The soft ground of the beach was likely a blessing for this beast.
Rum...two ways to get back downtown when walking from Red Dragon...down the road you already took & up Hermitage Rd. that Red Dragon is located...about half way up the road there is only one (obvious) lane that you can walk down (there's a small & beautiful old church on it) that will drop you at the Scotia Bank. Both routes are pretty much equal distance.
as a horseriderI would not enjoy riding on that beach at all... Way too many people and things to worry about ..esp. a little one running out in front or a horse (that one done not know well) getting spoked and bolting wildly down the beach..,, If you want to ride on a beautiful -secluded beach then check out country western stables in little london..they rent out horses -have acres to ride in as well as your own beautiful beach and you can swim with the horses in the ocean....
just doesnt make sense to have the horses on such a crowded beach....
It's about educating people... Tourists don't know any better. What's more romantic or exhilarating than riding a horse on a beach? . We certainly have tv to thank for that. I myself am planning on doing just that on my up coming trip but I am going somewhere where it should be done and I pray where the horses are cared for.
I must admit, the first time I visited Negril in 2010 I had not been on this board, I saw my first horse on 7 Mile beach early in the morning with a boy holding reigns and someone riding the horse. The only reason at the time I didn't approach to inquire was that was NOT my idea of riding. I had no idea it was illegal nor did I think about the safety issue and what it was doing to such a beautiful beach . I only saw this as something I always wanted to do and I wasnt sure about where else to go. Needless to say that trip I didn't ride any horses.
Maybe if the tourist commission put up a campaign in the airport advising tourists that its illegal...... If people stop doing it they will have no reason to be on the beach.
Hey Hussyband, I just wanted to see if there were others that felt the way I do. I don't like the thought of walking in Horse **** while I stroll down the beach in my bare feet. Your apology is accepted.
