I've withdrawn JA many times and have always been charged for Jamaican, not USD. Our last trip, it was difficult to get JA cash from the ATM's, tried many on diff days. Next trip I'm getting it from the bank before I go, I can order all the small bills I need and it's worth it for me to not have to worry about walking to an ATM to get more. The difference in the exchange rate is minimal; for me, the convenience outweighs the small difference - I don't get excited about saving just a few $$
Re: Canadian dollar conversion
Last year we went for three weeks with ATM cards for my husband and myself, two different accounts at two different credit unions, 4 cards in total and came home with all 4 using the ATM almost every other day. Can't imagine taking that much cash with us, and don't want to worry about it while we are there. That was our experience and going back this yer with the same, although I do convert some cdn to ja prior to leaving just to get us through the first day or two to stock up the fridge and get settled in. Getting a little anxious coming in at 4 weeks or so....Yeamon!!!!! And cannot wait to hear the bleep bleep bleep to put me to sleep sleep sleep :)
