Home is where I hang my hat.. at night.
Maybe it's because we've only been once, but I'm uncomfortable referring to Jamaica as home. Also, don't feel right using the terms "mon" or "irie". Feel better saying respect man! Just me, but would feel lame trying to speak like a Jamaican.:)
All I know is that the end of a beautiful sunset and great day on 7 mile, I usually say I'm gonna go home and take a nap before my next dirty banana. Maybe not a reply to your post, but this expresses my feelings
Yeah; I call it home; just watch this:

I did not read all the posts on this but I, a USA citizen that considers my home to be the US, have no problem saying my Home away from home is Jamaica as it is an expression that the Jamaicans I have known for over 35 years and over 25 visits have often used to describe how they know I feel about their Jamaica. It is high praise for those I know and it strikes me as odd that this is a discussion point.
True dat BostonBob
I guess I have better things to do than look for reasons to be offended, so no, someone saying that the USA, or South Dakota, was their "home away from home" wouldn't bother me the least as a lifelong resident. To me, thats quite simply looking for a reason to be annoyed or upset, and in a world full of valid reasons to feel those emotions, I don't have the need to go in search of things to offend. If someone using an innocent phrase to describe a place they are fond of upsets you to the point of being offended, I think the issiue lies with you and not them, personally.
I think Jamaicans in general have bought into the whole "Come Home to Jamaica" marketing line... and why not? On an island with little in the way of mineral resources, they've found a way to compete in a marketplace for their most precious import... us. I don't think I've ever gotten the vibe from any Jamaican that I was not welcome there or that they were offended when I said it was good to be "home". In fact, we've been offered hospitality in one acquaintance's home for a barbecue.
On the other foot? I'm not sure... but then again, we don't have the same situation-driven perspective.
