Yeeeeaaahhh! I'm really glad ya'll like it, I was hoping people could appreciate my sarcastic nature, and get a few laughs. :D
I'd like to put it on the record that while in fact I talk a lot of smack about my friend, and I promise it's nothing I haven't already said to her face LOLOLOL, but for the record I love her to death I really do, just won't be traveling with her anymore. ha We can laugh together about it blah blah blah....:D
Man, I really want to respond to everybody lol but it would take forever and I'm crazy busy at work right now....going to finish a few things up and come back to post more the third day...
Just wanted to pop in and say thanks for checking it out!
Tizzy - Classic report/adventure and good for you starting out in the West end instead of on the Beach. Picking the right person to take along can be interesting and I actuallly had a old buddy come down for the 1st time and comment on the Taxi ride from Mo Bay "Geez there sure are a lot of Black people down here..!!!" It had not occurred to me to mention that "Yeah It is kind of their home so you may well see a number of Black people !" Another guy I warned to stay away from the "Professional Girls" & not to rent & ride a Motorbike while partaking of the Island Herbs & spices and of course he came back with a bike & a Lady escort with in 30 mins..!! Looking forward to more stories
Ok that is nuts....my friend said something ridiculous along those lines as well and I was floored. She then makes a comment about not liking saltwater. Dude....did you not do your research, I mean seriously where the hell have you been? I don't even know what to say....and that never happens. LOL Crazy crazy....
Patricia and Sweetness....hope your upcoming trips are fabulous and I can't wait to hear about it. Sweetness you're like out of time sista...I'm pretty sure you have a plane to catch....don't pull a Tizzy. LOLOL
Irieworld...I agree Samsara was the perfect starting point my newbie self. I'd love to try out some different spots I've been reading out from boardies, but to be honest the rates at Samsara are going to be hard to pass up. What would you say are comparible places as far as $$?
Yo...Tictoc...you are killing me, ROTFL. I swear to you if I ever have another free trip to give away...it's got your name on it. Specially if you won't be giving me a hard time about the window seat or picking fights with me when I've been missin planes and drinkin.
....and now I know
Tizzy these words added to your signature block say it all
Day 3
I remember that first morning waking up…it was a lovely morning. Sun shining bright. It took a minute for it to dawn on me when I opened my eyes…I don’t have to get anyone up and dressed for school, I don’t have to cook breakfast, pack lunches, clean OR go to work today. Funny thing, I’ve never popped out of bed more effortlessly. I think my friend went to breakfast while I sat on the cliff drinking my coffee and having my morning smoke. Damn that’s good coffee…I would have downed a whole pot, but coffee just wasn’t made for naturally hyper people like myself. Can’t stay out of the water….as soon as my cup is empty….I’m jumping.

Not much time to hang around though…we are planning to go to the beach. Samsara has a free shuttle that will take you to their sister property, Legends, that’s on the beach. When we got up to the front of the hotel to wait for our ride, there was a young Jamaican guy signing people up for excursions. This reminds me that I need to talk to a guy about riding horses. My friend wants to sign up for something. We choose the Black River/YS Falls trip the next day, leaving at 8:30 am. Cool I’ll ride horses the day after that. Shuttle pulls up in front of hotel and we start piling in. Lucked out and got a window seat. I was amazed at the # of people they were able to squeeze into this van. I’m not crazy about being sweated on by strangers…kinda gross, but I got a window…and I’m just too excited about going to the beach to really care who is sweating on me lol. Shuttle doesn’t take long at all. One stop on the way then we arrive at Legends.

I’ll tell you this…I most definitely have a little love affair going on with the cliffs, but there is something about that first time you set foot on the soft sand of 7 mile beach that is just impossible to put into words. I couldn’t have dreamed this place up. I love it, just looooove it here. So we are all set for a day on the beach. Cooler full of iced down red stripe, and bottled water…got to stay hydrated. I don’t remember how we got ice that morning for our cooler. First thing’s first….I got to get in that gorgeous water…. It’s perfect…warm, calm, clear, and brilliant in color. I never want to leave. Never ever ever….

On my way back to my lounger, I meet a couple guys that offer to take us out on a glass bottom boat to go snorkeling. They’re not asking much $ for this trip, and they seem pretty cool. I’m down, but I want to chill out for awhile. Dude says no problem. They have a group of people wanting to go out, so we’ll just wait for them to come back later. As soon as I get comfy on my lounger, my tummy starts making noise. Guess what…no problem! Don’t even have to leave my lounger, within minutes the fruit lady is slicing up a mango for me…and I get a little JA banana to eat with it. So tasty. We will have to do this again later. I’m a BIG fan of hers.

My friend tells me that she’s walking somewhere to get her hair braided…shake my head, “you realize you’re going to want them out as soon as its done, right?” Says she doesn’t want to have to wash her hair on vacation. I go for a swim then start look for the spot where she’s getting her braids done. I find them under a little thatched roof somewhere around Kuyaba and Bourbon Beach. My friend is there and the lady braiding her hair, two older rastas, and two or three younger guys. I get into a conversation with one of the older men. The lady starts in on me about getting my hair braided….I graciously let her know that I’m not interested in the pain she would like to inflict upon my scalp. lol She sort of argues with me briefly but I think she soon realizes it’s a losing battle lol. I told her that she is doing a fantastic job on my friend, but I prefer mine to just be natural, got my lioness beach hair in full effect and lovin it…couple men kinda nodded in agreement, but they sure didn’t say it out loud where she could hear them. Hahahaha. The ganj is abundant in this little circle…and I need to walk away for a minute to get in the water, and grab my squares. Woowee…that’s no joke, Think I’m gonna wet my whistle and lay on my lounger for a moment. Hahahaha, it’s like I’m in highschool again. lol
Pull myself together and walk back over there.
As I’m checking out my friends braids….another lady comes up beside me and starts trying to rub on me. I’m ripped right now ok. I stop her, “What are you doing?” (I’m laughing)
She tells me she wants to put some aloe on me “No thanks mama, I’m good”, real polite and all.
She persists....”you need this…yadda yadda yadda”. This goes on for way too long. Omgosh. I’m not laughing anymore. lol
Finally, I tell her, “Noooo ma’am, I don’t need it, cause for one thing my skin doesn’t really burn, and if by some chance it does, I’ve got some back at the room. Besides that my money is tied up right at this moment. Don’t want to waste your time or mine you see. Thank you though”.
I notice the guys that are there look amused, one nodded at me and called me a O.G. *** LMFAO. I don’t think these women like me much, but what can I do? Sorry…if ya’ll had something for me to eat I could justify buying it. But I don’t want braids and I sure don’t need aloe. I need to save my $ for food and snorkeling. I feel kinda bad cause I know it’s slow season right and they are hurtin but I’m gonna be hurtin when I get home just for coming here… traveling on a pretty tight budget.
Once we get back over to Legends, friend goes to order some food. I’m talking to the guy doing security. I saw the boat was back and was hoping he knew where the boat dude was. Super cute young guy…seems sweet. My friend walks up on the conversation. I ask him his name...
“Marlon”
My friend: “Like the fish?”
You should have seen the look on his face, it was priceless!!! Apparently, he did not like this comparison one bit, lol…lol... because “fish” if you weren’t aware, is a slang term over there….referring to someone of a sexual orientation that is apparently frowned upon, by him anyways. I’m am aware of this already so I’m dying right now…
He’s shaking his head, “No…not like the fish, like the...” I couldn’t hear what he said over my laughter.
Marlon didn’t seem to think that was as funny as I did. L’edMAO
He got over it quickly, I’ll hand that to him. There’s my dude with the boat. I’m ready to go snorkeling. Got my mask and my snorkel.
We climb on the glass bottom boat…my friend brings her food. Looks like it’s just going to be us. I’m good with that, it’s like a private charter for 25 US. The ride out was really nice…good company all the way around…beautiful sunny day...perfect really. They shared with me… and I shared my friend’s food with them. LOL Give thanks. I go out to the bow of the boat to sit in the sun and feel the wind, this is good stuff. I love Jamaica.

Finally, I find flippers small enough for my kid-size feet. They were probably kid’s flippers come to think about it. Lol Just made that connection. Lol Got my own snorkel and mask. Drop in and one of the guys goes out with us. Ok, I can’t lie, it wasn’t the best snorkeling as far as ocean life, but it was damn fun. I had a great time. Saw some cool long skinny fish dive bombing on schools of smaller fish. That was cool. But then at one point, dude started tugging on my arm and pointing. I look over and see this massive sting ray. Kinda catches me off guard lol. Had no idea they could even get that big. This ray was close to the size of my kids trampoline. That was pretty incredible. Dude swam down and got us some of those little white urchins. We stayed out for awhile…seemed like a good long stretch of time. Clouded up and rained on us a little on the trip back in. Back on land, tipped and thanked the guys...I hope everyone tips them well always, cause they deserve it. I’m surprised they didn’t charge more than they did…
***Sorry for poor quality of pics. Camera lens kept getting foggy so had to do some boosting on a few
