I like doing split stays, and enjoy a day on the road, you get to see and get the lay of the land, along the north coast and up the west. We are doing the negril, Silversands split again this march.

I say do the split. Contrary to what people are saying there is alot you can do in Ochi and surrounding areas. There is so much to see along the Northcoast.
I like doing a few days in Ochi, but not more than that. (Shopping used to be better a few years ago than it is now.) While in Ochi, hire a driver to take you for a drive through Fern Gully - get a drink at the top of the hill ... beautiful drive. I might also suggest spending a night in Falmouth on your way from Ochi to Negril ... do a night snorkel at Glistening Waters there. You could stay at Fisherman's Inn in Falmouth for a reasonable rate. Drive the next morning to Negril w/ a stop at Scotchies Jerk Centre on your way to Negril. I wouldn't fly between the cities ... half the adventure is the tour/view.
Don't get me wrong, I love Ochi and we spend lots of time there when visiting family in St. Mary. I was just trying to illustrate the different vibe between it and Negril. There is a lot of fun to be had in and around Ochi but they don't call Negril the Capital of Casual for nothing. With the road finished all the way, the drive between them can be done comfortably in 3 hours. I heartily second a visit to Glistening Waters/Luminous Lagoon in Falmouth but it is an after dark experience so plan accordingly. Whatever you choose you will have a blast so enjoy it to the max!
Bless...

Yes, I concur w/ Ras Walleye regarding Glistening Waters in Falmouth .... Glistening Waters is an evening activity only, and I wouldn't plan on arriving in Falmouth until late afternoon/early evening, set up your excursion with the Glistening Waters captain (right next door) ... or hire a private captain to take you out (PM me for contact info) .... Plan on leaving Falmouth early in the a.m. for your drive to Negril.
I split my stays all the time. In August I did Negril, Ocho Rios and Port Antonio. I love the ride because I feel its part of the experience and not time wasted in traveling. I leave from one district and head to the other right after breakfast and usually make it to my next destination before lunch if I don’t stop along the way.
Thanks everyone!!
We are still debating and if my husband is ever home from work for more then 10 minutes while I am still awake we might be able to make a decision, ha! We've done just about everything we want to do in the Ochie area over the last 8 trips so if we do decide to go the only reason would be to go to our favorite resort for a few days...
takinitslow I completely agree with you. Negril is the bomb!
We stayed at Silversands a few years ago. Had a great time. But we definately missed Negril. It is a great spot, nice villas, great cooks! Went with family. We did not care for the rougher water, the lack of sandy bottom for hanging in the water. The coral was beyond a bother, it hurts! As do the sea urchins! Plop that place along 7 mile beach and we would never venture anywhere else. I imagine in March it will be fine. In Feb it was too windy and rough for us. At least our place had a pool and a hot tub, which were well used. We have stayed in Ocho and Montego Bay as well. Would like to check out south coast and Porti but for us Negril is Jamaica.
Wow! What a great opportunity for an adventure... Dinner at Evita's, Mystic Mountain in Ochi...Trippin thru Mo'Bay with a stop at Jerky's... Man, I'd just take the ride on to Negril.... We love the countryside and all the fab scenery, plus some special interactions always occur! Wheeeeeee!
Happy Travels
