Re: Should I bring an umbrella in April?
My vote is no umbrella. If it ain't rainin', you gonna be in the sea or the pool anyway! You're already wet! Why bother? Liquid Sunshine, SweetPea! Liquid Sunshine! (worst it can do is muss up your make up ... but if it doesn't rain, the heat will do that anyway! Save the space! Leave the make up at home. Ain't worth it! Let the real you shine through!)
Re: Should I bring an umbrella in April?
I hope you need the mother of all umbrellas! Sorry to say that but we have a draught going! I haven't had a shower in over two months--and no, I don't stink because I have been taking a bucket bath every day. I even ran around in the rain the other day just to remember what a shower feels like. Just want you to know that if it rains please don't be upset with us--we really need it! Leave the umbrella at home, though! if you have a little extra room in that suitcase you might bring along some school supplies or children's clothing. We could use it at St. Anthony's Kitchen! --Fr. Jim
Re: Should I bring an umbrella in April?
Father Jim! I had no idea that there was that serious a lack of water! My apologies! IF there is a rainstorm, shelter yourself at St Anthony's, and lend a helping hand!
Oh. Come on! We get so much joy out of Jamaica ... why not give back? It takes but a few hours/probably seconds!; or a few lbs. of stuff in your luggage - just do it!
1 copy book x 200 Boardies = Many Kids with supplies!
Got room for 10 pencils? Do It. It's easy to be a hero! They don't need mega-heros; just little heros!
Think what a differnce we Boardies could make with a pencil each! ....... what are we, Rob? 200? That's a lot of pencils!!!
Meet Miss Pearl! Your life will change! She is totally awesome!
One pad of stupid corporate publicity is a world of use in Jam!
Could you stop by St Anthony's and:
Help for the school breakfast programme? (Oh come on! Jamaica at 6 am is AWESOME - but not as awesome as those children who only get to school because of this programme!
Drop off ONE pair of shoes for a child who can go to school that day because YOU did that? Did you know that flip flops are not acceptable at Jam schools? ( buy TOMS and go to their website and DEMAND Shoes for Jamaica!
Oh. Come on guys! We get so much ... let's just brainstorm how we can give back! No water? Are you serious? OK. We can't fix that ..... but One Pencil at a Time .... really - we can make a difference!
Fr Jim ROCKS!

Somebody always says this. Sorry... not so much fun when you're walking back from town w/ a full backpack & some grocery bags in hand. On the beach when you're in a bathing suit, I'd agree to some degree that the rain feels wonderful. I've been caught in the rain many times on my beach walks. Mostly it does feel good. When it gets to the coming down in sheets almost horizontally & feels like cold nails pelting your skin... not so enjoyable. Usually it is though.
Also glad to see I'm not alone in using them for blocking the sun. Mine seems to be used for this more than for rain.
Re: Should I bring an umbrella in April?
Well....I still like the rain....
Re: Should I bring an umbrella in April?
I think we all like the rain to some extent...just when your heading out for a nice dinner and show, its hard to be comfortable dripping wet into your food......and as was mentioned, Taxi's dont care for picking up soaking wet fares, when they might have to pick up dry people in their good clothes..........
So Yes Bring the Umbrella..................or..................No Leave it at home...................
(talking like a elected official now :)
Re: Should I bring an umbrella in April?

Hey M&G....I don't think Rob saw your question.
I'm pretty sure I have this right...there's over 4300 registered members on the board & over 50,000 unique visitors just last month. We meet A LOT of lurkers and they're boardies just as well...;)...SO...there's definitely A LOT of help that can be offered from just the folks that visit here.
For those that don't want to fill their suitcases....you can easily purchase items in Jamaica specific to the needs of the children & help out the local economy while doing so...Father Jim also posts a great list of needed items should you want to bring them with you!
Re: Should I bring an umbrella in April?
I take a few "Emergency Ponchos." They're cheap ($1-1.50) and easy to carry in a pocket or bag. I have made many a Jamaican happy with them over the years. One particularly wet January, I bought a large umbrella at L&M. Used it once!
