There are so many dumb things you can do in Jamaica and still be lucky enough to not get busted. You were lucky!
The police are going to stop you if they see a white person looking like fresh meat coming out of the country parts with a route cab or even worse a white plate.
The out riders won't help.
Every time I've ever been in a car at a roadblock, they just wave us through. Once or twice, on a scooter they've told me to put my helmet on, but that's about it. I am out and about more than most tourists, and I've only seen a few roadblocks in all my trips to Negril.
That said, I almost never am holding anything, especially the past few years.
My rides up to get the Orange Hill have been in the back of a pick up with about 6 Jamicains and me. Never seen road block going there. Have seen them and been in them in negril and road to airport. My Ja pals hold on to anyways till we get back to resort. Years ago my driver went trough road block stop 50 feet past it and went to gets us a big stalk. He walked right out with it on his shoulder and threw it in the back with us. I Would not do that today a lot more stricker.
Have story about my profile pic of the limo sitting in MoBay. Look at my profile pic and picture 2 tall Ja police men 1 at the front and 1 at the rear of the limo. Smoke from the subs rolling out the craked windows and my driver telling me No Problem Mon keep smoking. I just knew it was gone cost me to get out this. After the 1 policeman got done talking on his cellie they walked away from the vehicle no words said. Driver said they called and found out who's vehicle it was and didn't want to mess with us. We drove off after taken some pics.
Booger....the only other color is green for commercial
I got stopped coming out of my driveway in Spring Garden two weeks ago. There just happened to be a police car going by as we came out from Zion Hill. They stopped us a questioned Linston in Patios about where we were coming from and who was I.
Of course I understood what he was saying and before Linston said anything I explained that I was the property owner for 40 years and had documents with me to prove it (copy of my title, my old work permit and residency visa and my TRN). He apologized for the stop and explained that if they happen to see a "tourist" up in the hills in a car coming out from the bush they will stop and investigate.
Don't say it can't happen.
BTW Gerry....I told you this story the day it happened over drinks at Seastar
Gotcha. All my trips have been charter taxi, usually in a bus on the way back from a road trip. I have never seen a roadblock, however I'm sure they pop up. I am with Gerry as I have always been waved thru, never stopped at any road block. I also have 1/10,000 of the time in Jamaica that you do, so I'm going to shut up about now.
Now I understand why there is so much sand gravity with many posters.
Regards,
Bob
