Re: Staying at Roots Bamboo - Tips/Advice
narjee - I've done what you're planning (scouting other places and bargaining) - and was no problem. One thing you should consider - remember you'll have to check out by 11AM and that's not much time to find a place (depending what time you arrive first day), especially if you're up late Friday night. And you won't be in a good bargaining position dragging your suitcases with you and asking if they will give you a deal. You'll have best luck bargaining the longer you stay - i.e. ask if they have a weekly rate.
So I usually book 2 nights when I do what you're doing. You won't get much done arrival day and will most likely get there later than you think. With 2 nights, you'll have the whole next day to find a place. Then check out at 11 and move the next day.
That said, two doors to the north of Roots is Fun Holiday. They are budget hotel in your price range. Also, I looked at Pure Gardens this trip, for later - it is also same price range and looked better than years past since is under new mgmt - but is across the road from the beach. Not really a problem, because Bourbon Beach is across the street and sort of caters to day-trip beachgoers. So does Mama Flo's and Sunbeach Bar.

We stay next door to Roots Bamboo, at Rooms Negril. 5th year in a row - soon come - Feb 15 thru 22nd.
I will echo what others have said. Roots cabins are "roughing it" in my opinion.

Narjee -- We'll definitely be going strong Friday, since it's our last night on the island! We'll be staying on the cliffs at that point, but may be making it back to Alfred's for the last night.
We tend to go offline once we get to JA, but will post on here if we know about anything going on and the wifi is flowing!

Totally worth it!!! I just came back from there and loved it. Rooms very spacious. Staff friendly and helpful. Great location...can't say enough good things about this place.

@Drifter hope the trip is going amazing. I read somewhere that Bounty Killa is at Roots Bamboo tomorrow night.
Why couldn't it be next week when I'm there. Only 3 more sleeps until I finally find out what this place Negril that everyone raves is all about.

Was wondering the same thing........I didn't think the vibe at Roots was the same this year so we hung out next door a the Aqua Bar....

Well, the trip was awesome, I'll try to get a report and pics up when I get a chance. Back to reality and work sucks, so much to catch up on and makes me really miss laying back in Negril, hope to get back again soon. We spent the entire stay at Roots, great location, one of nicest stretches of beach.
