Wow!!! Fred Stripe, from one cop to another, you have to take it down a notch and have a cup of coffee. This tread is about some minor problems at Kuyaba and has turned into "how tough am I". Relax man. TIJ (This is Jamaica)
Just keep this in mind when going all Maroon on your attacker; it will not likely be just one attacker - after a few seconds you may be faced with a whole lot of attackers quite suddenly out of seemingly nowhere. (and in my experience, American law enforcement credentials don't carry a whole lot of weight to the average citizen in Jamaica.)
edit to add: I would simply ask the vendor to move along and if that didn't work, get a manager or security to assist. No need for Rambo in this situation. If no security, a long "kissteet" and a "have a nice day" while keeping it moving has always worked for me.
Except for that 1 guy we have been talking about , I found the hagglers were not that bad this trip and with a no ty seemed to work better this time. That guy we are talking about was the only rude person I ran into . I think he is not all there witch is part of the problem. I just got rude back to him and he left me alone although probably that was no more right than what he said to me and I did not quite catch all of what he said to me but I heard enough to know it was a theat although I felt is was an empty one. Like I said hes not all there and if he had ever gotten violent with the tourist I'm sure he would be removed from the beach real quick by the Jamaicans themself. I,v run into worse over the years . And Rodel did a good job keeping him away. I like talking to some of the hagglers on the beach , most can teach alot about Jamaicn life.
O/K but remember,,the Wise one says Not to resist your attacker?
This will be the final post on this thread. First, I never said
Assuming (that is) that I am "The Wise One". I don't know if I am wise or just practical in my thinking. I do have years and years of experience in dealing with Jamaicans in one to one instances. I try not to provoke a fight with a Jamaican nor will I run from one either. And that, by the way, also includes a tourist. If I am attacked by anyone, I will defend myself.Quote:
Not to resist your attacker
I only get upset if I am misquoted. Twice in this thread (and actually more than twice) I have been misquoted. Once by "selectively" quoting something I posted which materially changed the answer and I only pointed that out because I wanted to make absolutely certain I was "completely" understood as to what I was saying.
And now somebody attributed me saying something that I did not say at all. I don't know how else to answer for something I never ever said. I challenge anyone to quote where I said "Not to resist your attacker".
Perhaps, when someone takes a police report of an alleged crime, they can be fast and loose with the facts. That is something that I can't ascribe to anyone so you have to look inside your own motives. But, I can read and I can reason and if that makes me the "wise one" then I will accept that nickname and wear it proudly. Conversely, if you can't point out where I said "Not to resist your attacker" then you will have to accept the "dumb one" as a nickname or something similar in meaning.
I have too much good work to do to worry about what some "whatever the proper nickname" person says or thinks.
I just will move on to more constructive things.
I can't even sign this with my usual "Peace and Guidance" as I recognize likkle of either.
Nuff Said.
Well spoken Accompong.
Hahahahaha "the dumb one" Point and match
No winners, " dumb one" brought yourself down to the same level.
