Thanks for the cloudy clarification PGW :p
I hope it was a small leaf. That would explain the credence to the old saying "little things mean a lot". Maybe someone was just overindulging on ganja when they wrote that.

In this day and age I would think that they would want to promote the fact that they are a smoke free resort. That would be a draw (no pun intended) for many travelers looking at their options.
I am not a tobacco user but am not offended by those who are as long as they are courteous about it. I have been known to occasionally disregard the prohibition on herb both here and in Jamaica, but always with that same courtesy and a large dose of discretion.
Funny story. One early early morning years ago I was outside my room in the courtyard of one of my favorite beach resorts enjoying a pre dawn spliff when I noticed a Red Stripe (policeman) patrolling the property. I decided perhaps I should take it inside. Later I was telling this story to my friend the security guard and he was very concerned. "He didn't bother you or make you feel uncomfortable did he? Because if they bother the guests we won't let them come here anymore."

Hi groove16, I've lost his business card, but I emailed him asking for his number. His name is Melton, and he is JUTA certified. He was very nice, funny, and a pleasure to be around. Also, very prompt! Are you going soon?
One of the reasons I didn't return to Jamaica for over 20 yrs was the second hand smoke issue.
When I got the job as a ship's master with Sealand I was tested every month for twenty years.
Of course now that I'm retired thing have changed a bit <grin>
It's good to be home
Retirement does have its advantages. :)
Sorry to have fallen off the radar, but I'm at Travellers now and even though it's a "budget" resort, am so much happier here, can do what I want in my room that I paid for with no fear, and have pretty much decided that AI's are not for me in general, and that while SATP was very nice, it is just not for me, and I wouldn't stay there again. I would love Melton's number, I had a list of numbers written down then left it in the car on the way to the airport somehow.
I can't understand why SATP wouldn't specifically advertise them as nonsmoking as has been said, because that way they could market it like that for those who want a fully smoke free atmosphere even outside. I would have even been okay with no smoking in my room, but the whole no smoking even on your own balcony thing did bug me I have to admit. Oh well, my *****fest is done, lol! Only thing left to do is, as promised, this is word for word and letter for letter, including the caplitalizatons, the letter on the nightstand we got our first night and the bolded and underlined parts are fully theirs not mine:
