Thanks, all...will try to get more reporting done shortly....and work up another vid this weekend:cool:
This is such an AWESOME trip report!
I can't believe I actually shed a few tears on the last video....I miss Negril SOOOO much! Can't wait to get back!
Days 5-7 Beach, and More Beach.. On Monday, we wake up to our 1st morning at GP, that will mean our 1st "coffee situation" experience....<the bad>...along with our 1st GP breakfast..<the good>...We experienced problems getting coffee in the mornings last year at GP..one of the few negatives of this place..Each room has their own little coffee maker, and sugars, creamers, etc. but last year we decided not to mess with the in room stuff because after all, we ARE at an all-inclusive..well, this yr was the same experience, where..as we are normally early risers(can't help it) we need our coffee in the mornings, and to go down to the rest/bar terrace, they start putting it out at about 7am....but it is one carafe thingy full, and the coffee in it is horrible...not blue mountain, not high mountain, not even "mountain grown folgers"..I dunno what they use, but it's barely palatable...this yr by day 2 we decided we would just make it in room, even though that only provides about 4 cups worth, at least it's the Jamaican stuff. Problem is, all we were ever given this time was decaf....I had asked a member of housekeeping, and was told to "use 2, to make it stronger"....well...this is how it goes...we love this hotel, but had to kind of survive a week here without really being able to get coffee...They DO serve it at breakfast, but it's the same stuff put out right before the meal...and I guess it's percolated,<badly> cause every cup would have grounds in the bottom..WOW!!!! lots of talk on coffee, I know, ok, I'll stop....but it's important, DANG IT!!!......ok.......Breakfast!!...I love breakfast at the GP...you can have everything that you can think of for breakfast , everyday...and they still include Jamaican items....steamed cabbage, escoveitched fish, as well as made to order eggs/omelets...ackee&saltfish..yum yum...So we eat our first of many..then mosey down to the beach chairs...where we plop down for the bulk of the day, only to get up to walk 14 steps up to the bar to get drinks from Vinton, the newest staff member of the bar, or to swim in the wonderful caribbean ...ahh..life is wonderful...Our friends J & T..who by the way are Jason and Teri from MN....are here, and have brought another couple with them..Shane and Leiloni...Shane grew up with Jason, and these 2 couples had come here together once before, 2 years back..I guess Shane and Loni couldn't make it last year, but it was nice meeting them this time...We all seem to hang together in a pack of 6 the bulk of our stay...all lower middle class types with common backgrounds...Shane works retail, which I did for 20+ years..so we have lots to talk about ...blah , blah....Although this place is small (like 65 rooms, small for an AI)..and getting to know fellow guests is easy, and inevitable...there is enough international of a crowd to hinder too much introduction when it comes to the language barrier...in particular, the german guests...They are by no means unfriendly, but prefer to not speak English...thus keeping to their own particular "clique" as it were.....All except this one fella....known by all the staff and guests as the "Cheeseburger Man"....this guy is Michael, from Germany...he is 35 and is here on vacation with his mother, whom he says is his best friend..I say, why not?..I guess I can relate, although I wouldn't classify my mother as my BFF..she has probably been my most "consistant" friend my whole life....This guy is having the time of his life...dancing all day to the reggae tunes being pumped non stop through the sound system, and making the rounds to all the staff and guests with smiles, laughter and an undeniable joy that is contagious...helps that he speks English and is willing to do so...My 1st impression was that this man must be on his 4th "8Ball" of his trip...but after introductions ...he's just a happy, likeable guy who has little concern for how he's assessed by others....with a lot of energy. By day 6(our 2nd full day here) we have been reaquainted with som more of our friends from the staff....Andrew, bar-terder extradinare...Ghavri....an expert mixologist in his own right(remember, Lisa and I LOVE to imbibe)...and now we've met Sean..who works watersports...young guy, I would say early 20's.....he figured out fairly quickly where we liked to park on the beach, and ...instead of having to play the "chair game"...Sean would set us up before we even got out of bed...mind you, he didn't do this for everyone, and this most certainly was no policy of the hotel....just a great young man...very nice to talk to...and helpful as can be when we wanted to take out a water toy.
Nice!
Great report! Sitting at work wishing I was there again....
