Re: I can't stand when I'm asked this question....
For the record : i thought based on the posters question this was about having chance encounters with strangers you did not know..It does not state or nor did i get the idea from the "original" poster that this was about the hotel staff you were staying at questioning you..Why would this even be an issue?? of course they should know when your STAYING and when your LEAVING ..their the management of the hotel..thats their business. I did not see anywhere where the poster asked about leavning your info as far as coming and going from the hotel you were staying at... If that WAS the question then sure, I'd say it would be a wise move on most accounts if you feel comfortable with the staff knowing this-if you didnt feel comfortable, maybe you should stay somewhere else ...My feedback was based on strangers you just met..not hotel staff here you were staying at(of course their going to know where your staying and when your coming/going)..Two separate issues ..Never did i make mention of "mangement" that you say I did
I'm offended you think by looking up my IT log in record that you discern that i dont Live there... You know nothing about me or my life by an IT address in S.Cali..
Re: I can't stand when I'm asked this question....
none of my business, but I will only add that I thought we were talking about strangers coming up to you, not telling staff where u r going.
I agree with vvht, and rambo, on their views....
Re: I can't stand when I'm asked this question....
Sometimes I'll read a thread that nearly kills my vibe......................
Re: I can't stand when I'm asked this question....
Then again, I never told my ex-wife where I was going, either ...... I found I was better off that way!

I thought that was a bit intrusive also.

Mort,
Everyone on the internet has an IP address. It is how the internet works. Without them, there would be no way for you to see the page that you click on. All internet sites and servers record this information.
For some sites, the IP determines what you are able to view on the site. For instance, Hulu will block IPs from countries that are not the USA, Jamaican IPs are blocked from seeing certain shows on Hulu. Also, so basic things like Google.com will show up as Google.com.jm when accessing Google from Jamaica.
IPs are also used to compile traffic statistics for websites - showing how much traffic comes from each country.
Message Board/Forum software all store IP address and are used to record where the posts are being made and aid in the verification of the information being posted, as well as helping to prevent spammers from plying their trade. All message boards record this information, and the more intrusive sites actually will display this information on the post themselves - allowing everyone to see the poster's real IP address. We have turned off this option to protect privacy.

I could be wrong, but I thought the poster was expressing how he hated being reminded of the dreadful departure day/hour/time to leave paradise, not necessarily dishing personal information to anyone. It evolved into what it is now…
If that’s the case, then I’m with you Fred Stripe…don’t make me think about leaving, it makes my heart ache big time. :(
