Hey BreanaAshlee - don't be bitter. Travelling solo can have its benefits. I used to have a BF who wanted to travel - I came to the conclusion that he was a lousy travelling companion - too uptight & rigid. Not the way I want to expore the world. While he was in the hotel room sulking, I was out in the streets of Spain, Italy, Paris, Berlin - meeting people working on my pidgen Spanish, Italian, French & German (that alone is good comedy) and having a ball. At least when I go away by myself, I know what I am in for in terms of a companion. I can either be my own good company or not. Travelling solo forces me to interact more with my environment and the people I meet there. This goes for my "tourist" experiences as well as my little bit of international volunteer work. I have met people in Ghana and Jamaica who will probably be life long friends for me.Quote:

Our experience is this.
We went to Breezes Grand Negril at the end of November 2011 and after the smoke cleared, it cost us $3,565.00 for the two of us. The year before we spent 6 weeks (my wife spent 7). 2 weeks at Whitesands on the beach and the rest at Seastar Inn on the west end. Our overall cost for this trip was a bit under $7,000.00. 6 times as long (7 for my wife) for twice the price. This total includes all food, drinks, rooms, things to do, flights and transfers.
Having said that, I know you can get AI's cheaper than our experience but you definitly get a much better sense of the local vibe as it were, off AI in my opinion. Our best vacations have always been off AI. Off AI isn't for everyone but it is for us! I like feeling not obligated to eat or drink where I don't want to because of the price paid to be there.

Non AI is definitely better on your diet, that is for sure. How many of us were raised to eat what was on our plate?!?!
Definitely better for the diet. After 9 or 10 trips AI and gaining at least 8 lbs each trip we finally did non AI and only gained 3. Much easier to take off when you get home. No more AI for us!
Would it be safe to say that there's no right or wrong way to experience Negril for the people on this forum? I'm pretty new to the forum and haven't seen any negative remarks towards the people or the country. I think the reason people joined this forum is because they want to learn more, want to enhance their next experience, and share their memories. I have to admit that I have seen many enteresting points of view in regards to this post. Some people like AN, AI, non AI, both, with kids, no kids, and some travel alone. (now that would be an experience that I never thought of)
