Any tips for safely walking in Negril?
My husband is an early morning rise and likes to go for walks. I know a little about the traffic in Jamaica and it seems walking in Negril might be a risky sport. Any tips? Assuming there are no sidewalks. I love to walk the beach but do like long walks on the street to see life happening. What about walking at night? Any tips? Do's and Don'ts?

They are in the process of putting a sidewalk in along the beach road (on the morass side) but it isn't complete yet. Walking along the beach road can be scary at times, we were almost in the middle of an accident once, but for the most part it's not bad. Always walk facing the traffic... I personally wouldn't walk much at night, but if you do, bring a flashlight. The ground can be uneven at best.
The cliff road on the other hand, is another matter. I'm not a fan of walking up there, but many do. It's narrow and windy and they drive fast... Be aware of what's going on around you...

watch your footing.....watch traffic from both ways...at night a flashlight is good, not only helps you see your footing, it alerts drivers that you are there.......as far as security, walking on the beach at night alone would be the top risk......road not so bad maybe not at 3 am ...be aware of what is happening around you, plan ahead if you need a lift

Just walked from Seastar to Out of Town Pastry and back. (The had one Veg patty left and 2 coco bread at 1:30p.m.)
Walk facing traffic and give way (step off the pavement) when a car approaches and let it pass.
Rest frequently. We stopped at LTU for a delicious lunch and than at Hammock Park which is open. The young bartender said he just arrived from Canada. Family?
Then on to the bake shop. Slow ,but no stops on the way back to beautiful Seastar. Most drivers were not speeding and were courteous to pedestrians.

I'm pretty sure my husband will get thirsty on this walk...beer will be in hand

I always bring a white shirt to wear at night on the road, anything to make them see you. Watch your footing, the ground is pretty uneven. A flashlight is sure a good idea.

Don't walk Da beach at night unless your in large numbers. If you must walk at night on the beach as a couple chat with a local and pay him for security to and from where u want to go. Walk the road day or night. No Problem Mon!

LEAVE THE BLING AT HOME. Wear the old shoes and old pants. You wear the new stuff and you will be walking dirty. Don't put a target on your back.
