I recently sent a iphone 5c to someone in Negril and need to get it unlocked. it is new and on the T-Mobile network.
can anyone recommend someone legit to unlock it and how much should they expect to pay. they want to use on the digicell network.

You can buy unlock instructions on Ebay for cheap. Do a search and you will see numerous options.
$150 U.S. to unlock in jamaica- not worth it
There are free instructions on the internet for many phones. I have also called the service provider in the states who gave me the unlock code. Try calling T-Mobile. It has been awhile, but when I used Lime as my provider in Jamaica, I had a very hard time unlocking my phone when I wanted to switch to Digicel. Contact T-Mobile customer service. If the phone is legit, they will help you. You can find the info online easily.
my research on unlocking on internet for phone leads me to believe that if it doe's not work after initial hook up and payment, which seems common, then no follow up help.
would be ok paying us $100 or so to have a legit fix done in Negril or sav so that if any problems arise she can easily get fix..

There is a sign by the Digicel store that advertises unlocking and a phone number. Don't know about cost. My Verizon iPhones shipped unlocked. Was also told that because of new laws, most phones going forward will be unlocked.
Based on my experience with AT&T, if the phone is locked, the provider will only help you unlock it if it is old and off-contract. They don't want you to unlock a new phone because they want you to pay them for service. With T Mobile, YMMV.
I would go the Ebay route, if the person unlocking the phone is a DIY type of person. I have also heard about a guy on the 2nd floor of one of the shopping plazas that cuts SIM cards to fit the micro-SIM slot. He might be able to help. I think he was in the same plaza as the LIME store.
I have used Cellunlocker several times. You will need to know the IMIE # of the phone, just follow their instructions. Charges vary depending on model. I think there may also be someone to unlock the phone above the Digicel Store in Negril.

I used the place behind Corner bar on the road between Scotia band and the small grocery store going up to redground. Next to Juicy J restaurant. Small shop on the endcap by the woodshop. He did a great job fixing my 5.
Sorry forgot to say, he fixed my phone, I don't know if he can unlock it, but he might be able to do it. Nice guy too
