Steven, have you ever been to Negril? Is so, for how long a stay? Are you interested in the Beach, cliffs, Red Ground or other area? Not sure where you are from, but if not from a Commonwealth Country, then it might be difficult to stay for a year at a time. The USA is NOT a Commonwealth country.
Good luck,
VVHT
Steven,
Great to have you on the Board! To live here full time since you are retired, you would need to apply for Permanent Residency to be here for more than 6 months in any calendar year. The only advantage being from the Commonwealth is that you can apply while in Jamaica. Being from the US, you would need to apply from the US.

hey, I am American but I would be going back and forth every couple of months for a week, so that way I won't get on the wrong side of the law...I live in Miami and the round trip is very cheap on spirit airlines....I would also go on trips to maybe belize and wherever....
hey rob....I am from Miami and I would be going back and forth every couple of months and be in Miami for maybe a week or so...I would do it so as not to get on the wrong side of the law down there....
as far as location is concerned, that is my problem, not being familiar with the details there....I just need an economical place and I would get a scooter and get around to different places...
IMO, Just go down there pick you a place where you think you like. and stay a while get in the vibe and just check things out. Then extened if you like. You are on the right board to lead you in the right direction. Live it up Boss!~ Wish I was in your flip flops! :)
Back and forth is great...but you still can only be here for a total of approx. 6 months in a calendar year unless you have permanent residency.
Your best bet for finding long term, economical rental properties....look/ask around while you are here. Get to know some of the locations and where you would feel the most comfortable...generally the longer the lease the better rate you'll be able to negotiate.
Once you go
You'll know
^^^ word!
