Stop in at the Digicel store next to Burger King in downtown Negril. They will be able to help you. (Or) Some years ago I bought a Jamaican cell phone. I can top it off on line with local and international minutes. Simm card and minutes should be less that $35.00.
How often did you use that phone/minutes?
Do they have any store in the airport? I bought sim card in the airport of Sri Lanka. Of course different countries- different feauters
From a previous post, I believe you said this was your first trip? Personally, I wouldn't worry about a SIM card. You will spend a lot of time figuring out if your personal phone will work on the Jamaican mobile phone networks or where you can get a cheap phone and what documentation you need to get a SIM card and phone number. I would just ask your driver if you can borrow a Jamaican phone (if you haven't booked a driver yet, try Linston in the Transport link above).
You don't need a SIM card for wifi, as many bars, restaurants and hotels have free wifi. You can just use your mobile device (in airplane mode).
Ok, I got a pretty good picture. But might as well to buy a sim card just for phone calls.
Who wants to volunteer to put together an FAQ? Or maybe even a search button? Oh wait, we have one of those...
buying a sim card is easy in Negril.....Digicel Sim is $582J's and Lime is $300J's(above Valuemaster)
don't come home to a huge phone bill since you turned on your N American celiie in Jamaica......
Cool Runnings, Marko
I have international version phone. So, I am going to exchange sim cards only:o
Then your best bet is to go to one of the places in Negril, that Marko mentioned. There is no Digicel or Lime store at the airport, and some folks have experienced issues buying a SIM card in Montego Bay, without Jamaican ID.
Also, as MikeyNYC, mentioned - just do a search of the forum for more info. This stuff has been discussed ad nauseam.
