Would like to stop in and see sunset from hammock. No problem for us to order orange juice and rum/vodka. Can we bring our own food? I understand owner is Dennis. Dont want to start off on wrong foot with owner. Please give me the do's and dont's. What would you tell a first time vistor to this place?

The owner is a bit crusty - make sure you are polite and deferrential. Kind of like ordering soup from the Soup Nazi.
Order frequently and tip generously.
There are a lot of goats there, nice place.

Whoopies is a beautiful place! Have known Dennis for many, many years and spent a lot of time there. K3 is right on with his advice.
Greet Dennis when you get there, get your O.J. and Rum, or try a drink he makes called a "Tootsie Roll".
Made out of O.J. and Tia Maria and it does taste just like a Tootsie Roll! Then have a look about the place.
I also want to say, that if I ever had any problems in Jamaica, Dennis is the first person I would go to for help.
He can be cantankerous sometimes, but has a great heart.
Seriously? Dennis Lynch? He's one of the sweetest guys I ever met. He's not terribly emotional, but he's always a great host. Maybe he's seen his peaceful part of the world become overdeveloped, but he's always glad to see us.Quote:

Wonderful place! Been going for years, and our kids love now love Whoopies, and Dennis too. That being said, there are rules. Behave as if you were a guest in someones home, not like a rowdy bar patron. Do not make a mess. I don't think I would bring food, although I have brought snacks for my kids, but have always cleaned up and taken any trash with me. Dennis is a great guy, but if he is in a mood, don't take it personally;) In the end, it is truly the finest spot for sunset anywhere on the planet, as far as I am concerned!

All good advice above. Countryman you are right on in Dennis being one of the first guys I would go to. He is a tremendous guy whom I greatly enjoy his stories of the runnings in Negril. We have had many a good parties there - Birthdays, pre Wedding, etc. Yes - he does want you to do business with him and let him do his thing. A great vibe with tourists and locals. He also has some great souvenier t-shirts for sale as well.
We always make it a point to visit Dennis when we go. A few times he was closed when it was very slow. Is he not the most personable guy in Negril .....but has always been very nice. I agree about the shirts Negril Dave, we finally were able to get a new on last January, the two previous trips he was out of them!!
Yes, I would say "a bit crusty." The most uncomfortable I have ever been at a bar in Negril. Couldn't wait to finish my drink and leave. Others don't seem to have the same experience we had though.
