Seasplash, need upate
Anyone know how things are going at Seasplash? It's time to book something for February, and again this year I'm left wondering about conditions and management. Last year's new manager, who I thought was excellent, is gone. I've written to owner, but wanted to boardie feedback. Thanks!

Re: Seasplash, need upate
We were in Negril last week and it looks pretty sad. Pretty run down and the roof of the resturant has blue tarps covering the holes and no one seems to be staying there.
We stayed at Treehouse and were very glad we chose it this year after the Fiasco we had at Seaspash last year.
If you are looking I would consider Treehouse, great rooms and wonderful people. We had a small kitchenette room and I know they also have bigger ones that are more like apartments.
There is a Living Social deal going on right now too

Re: Seasplash, need upate
We spent 5 days there on a Groupon, Nov 27th through Dec 1st. The staff were wonderful, the rooms were nice, but the power went out every day for about 4 hrs--for some reason they were running off a generator and it kept breaking down.
Thangsgiving Day they had a buffet for $25. The manager(owner) served the food(tons of rice and peas, very little meat) and when we tried to go back to get more of what we liked, we were told one plate only....
On Saturday, the power was out for 8 hrs--well into the evening. The place was dark and they brought out candles. We spent the evening at Treehouse. On Sunday we had a letter under the door offering free breakfast or lunch for our trouble. They limited the menu to 3 lunch items.
I was not impressed with the management. They didn't tell us what was going on with the power situation and I don't feel they compensated us appropriately. It's too bad because the rooms and grounds are really nice as is the staff.

Re: Seasplash, need upate
that is so sad. it is a very nice place, but with much upkeep. but thats part of it. when jim was running it at least he had a very big interest in it. it seemed as though there were many improvement going on and much for the clientel. music, webcasts, hosting events. now who knows what happens to this place. these places in the carribean need lots of upkeep becasue of the weather and the sea salt air. i hope this place makes it as it is a very nice property. i think it might just need an owner that cares, maybe more TLC.. jus sayin

Thanks Lady Jane and PGW -- report what you find. You both know how in love I am with Seasplash, but I do need electricity! We are in midst of planning for Feb - looks like this will be the year I have to change! Lady Jane will you be back then?

Re: Seasplash, need upate
This is one of my favorite spots on the beach, my wife and an almost daily stop for a rum punch or three.. Don't remember the bartenders name, but she seemed friendly and I enjoyed talking with her. The snapper sandwich at the bar was pretty good, and have also eaten at Normas for dinner and enjoyed it. I usually end up buying a couple patties from the patty mon while sitting here, he always seemed to go by during happy hour.
We haven't stayed there, but it is high on my list... When we've been there, typically in either September or April, it seems like there's no one staying there, but that seemed to be the case at a lot of hotels during those times of year. I will keep an eye on this thread to see what people who are there now are saying, and what the hotel guest experience is like.

Re: Seasplash, need upate
Been reading this and made me so worried I canceled my reservation at Sea Splash. How soon was anyone going to post pictures of the resort? Would still really like to stay there if there truly aren't any problems. Need some info pretty quick, as we are going in February and everything is filling up.

Re: Seasplash, need upate
We stayed at Seasplash this past May and thought it was a very nice!. The management and staff were all very friendly and helpful. Food was good, drinks were plentiful, everything was clean. We always had water and electricity always worked. But yeah, there was a tarp on part of the roof. I would have no hesitation to stay there again. I posted a trip report some time ago where I discussed our stay at Seasplash. Here's a few pictures taken during our visit.

Re: Seasplash, need upate
My problems were mostly last year in Dec. We were bringing my brother and his wife for their first time to Jamaica and booked a pkg that was supposed to include transportation. They told us which desk to go to at the airport, then when we arrived the airport desk said that they didn't pay their bill so no ride. We had to find and pay our own ride to the resort when it was supposed to be included. We had reserved 2 of the one bedroom suites and they put us in the 2 over the office which were really crummy and I think were used by mgmt and old owner Jim. We complained and they moved us after 2 days because they were painting the other suites and we had to wait for them to get done (If you know you have customers arriving either do the painting before or after don't put them in the worst rooms). Also the full breakfast that was supposed to be included. They didn't have any meat the whole week we were there and 2 days no eggs. I also noticed that a lot of the downstairs ground level room's doors looked like they had been jimmied with a crowbar and would be able to be easily gotten into. Needless to say brother and his wife didn't have a great first impression of Jamaica.
To be fair we had stayed the year before in the same suites and it was great.

Re: Seasplash, need upate
FYI Jim lived in room 1 downstairs by the pool.

Re: Seasplash, need upate
Thanks justchuck! You put my mind at ease! Guess I'll be making another reservation.

Re: Seasplash, need upate
Just make sure to ask about the power situation, KRISTILEE! If they are back on the generator, I would be concerned.

Re: Seasplash, need upate
Charlie stayed there about a month ago for a few nights and said he got a good deal, like 99 dollars for a beach view room, No. 6 I think. I always stay at Seastar Inn but usually visit Seasplash every day cause I like to be picked up there for snorkeling.
Several trips ago, when Jim was there, I had the worst meal in my Negril history. But the bartenders are always nice, and there aren't too many hustlers there. It is where I forged a friendship with Rasta Dave, one of the more popular tourist-serving rastas on the beach.

Re: Seasplash, need upate
We met Rasta Dave our first time there, he is a great guy. When we were there last year they said he was no longer there. Is he back? Would love to see him

Dave's not here man.....
You can find Dave at most of the bigger shows. Ran into him a few times at Roots over the past couple weeks.

Rasta Dave really is a great guy! Glad to know he is ok.

Re: Seasplash, need upate
I was at Seasplash a few days ago, and visited there a few times last week. Rasta Dave still comes by there and I had a beer with him at the Seasplash bar. The place was full and the restaurant was busy every time I was there, Kahuna,s buddy JT just got in a few days before I left, he stays there everytime says he is just breaking in the new manager, lol.
Everything seemed the same as it has been the last few years, pool and hottub were clean and being used the grounds were neat and clean.
That tarp on the roof has been up there for some time,
Natashia is still behind the bar, she has been there something like 12 or 15 years.

Re: Seasplash, need upate
Glad things seemed good! Love Natasha! We were introduced to her I think it was 2000,the day she was hired. Linda said she hired her on the spot because of her smile :)
