The lobster is from Monday! 5 lb. monster.
Any Fruits! The fruit lady on the beach had these monster avocado,s every day last week!
Now that's a lobster...
according to a March2013 Gleanor article ".. that the annual lobster closed season starts on April 1 and runs until June 30.."
link:>>> http://jamaica-gleaner.com/gleaner/2...ead/lead3.html
stay tuned::: next-week, i'll be posting what i *discover* in-season food-wise ----- I'm *guess*-ing that sorrell(sp?) IS available [[ fingers crossed ]]
I was happy to see large bags of good sized grapefruit in the HiLo last week and the week before.
I eat a grapefruit every morning so I didn't have to scrounge around looking for decent
grapefruit this year.
Yayyyyy!
Yippie..!!..
:-)
Wonderful news..!!..
love love LOVE those Ja-grapefruit ---- soooooooooooooo sweet tasting ... not as tart, as those I-get here in-foreign
even the white-part taste-great
but rather than HiLo,
i'll get mine at a local-market (e.g., Lucea or Sav)
Hi Lo is a local supermarket chain... they are available island wide.
They get much of their local produce from the same farmers as do the smaller vendors... and of course they also carry many more items than do any of the smaller vendors.
Buying off the truck from the actual farmer can be a fun experience - they drive right up to where you are, and you get fresh produce right from the farm!
ummmmm
i unna-stan your point,
BUT they key-word in your post is "..much.."
for example,
there's a guy in *my* Lucea-neighborhood (and several others in the area)
who do not supply HiLo, and other supermarkets (e.g., the China-man groceries),
but they do supply small vendors at the market, and/or sell their wares themselves at the market.
that's tru tru
IF you include the pre-packaged goods (e.g., cereal, Pampers, drinks in bottles & cans, one-ply toilet paper, Bop roach spray, pastries, bread, female hair products, blue laundry soap, etc., etc. etc.)
Nevertheless,
for-me,
for the most part,
under most situations,
I stay away from HiLo for my fresh produce, veggies, fruits
i'm picky-picky about my produce stuff
that stuff in HiLo & ValueMaster just don't *look* right to me & my eyes. 'Tis hard to explain, but there IS a difference (to me).
of course, the best-est is from somebody's yard ---- stuff that never makes it to the markets and/or chain-grocery.
oh
oh
oooooooooooooh::::::::::>>> and the MOST-important thing:::>> because money is '.dear.' (for me):::::>>> HiLo & ValueMaster are waaaaaaaaaaaaay to expen$ive (for me).
Note to Self:::>>> NEXT-trip,
to compare & contrast:::::take photos/videos of produce at HiLo and/or ValueMasters. Take photos/videos of produce at Lucea-market, post 'em.
stay tuned
lol
lol
Yep, yep..!!..
i will be on *vacation*
but i AIN'T gonna vacate my good common sense
when it comes to what i put in my fragile & precious body.
plus,
staying on topic (of this thread/discussion)
pics & videos are worth a thousand words (so they say), so ____ _____ _____ ____.
ummmmmmmmm...
in fact,
i'm *investigating* that LiveStation thing-y to do some on-site, in REAL-Time video streaming.
that should make *things* *interesting*, na tru

To all, this is an incredibly bad idea. To walk around streaming live video is is an obvious invasion of privacy. Even taking video of people without their permission can get you into trouble. Just because you can do something doesnt mean it is right to do so.
And since live streaming to an audience is now considered a job in Jamaica (as opposed to a video skype call), you would be considered "working" in Jamaica. The government would rightfully see you as promoting either the business you are located or promoting yourself.
This would require a work permit. They are not easy to obtain. You need to apply about 60 days in advance and would need to spend several days in Kingston to have your permit issued. The application fee is j$14,400 and if approved, the cost to work up to 3 months here is j$27,000.
On a personal note, businesses here hire RealNegril.com to do their webcasts. They are not random events. The webcasts are always announced in advance, are prominently displayed and are part of the event. When asked, we do not direct the camera on those that dont want to be caught on the video. And no one has to worry that anything they do will be re-streamed at a later date. Our webcasts are live and not recorded for rebroadcast.
We use our own media streaming server and do not use any of the "free streaming" services because of their TOS (Terms of Servicce). If you read the fine print, anything you stream using their service is recorded and can be used by them at any time for any reason in the future. We feel that is not something that we can agree to by using their "free" services.
We would never consider doing any live streaming without obeying common decency, the Jamaican laws and getting permission first.

Come gather 'round people
Wherever you roam
And admit that the waters
Around you have grown
And accept it that soon
You'll be drenched to the bone
If your time to you
Is worth savin'
Then you better start swimmin'
Or you'll sink like a stone
For the times they are a-changin'.
Amen, Mr. Dylan...
YouTube is alive and well with videos Pon di Rock.....
no no nooooooooooooooooo
'twon't be any *work* at-tall
easy peasey
fun thing to do
plus, the big-bonus (for me):::>>> from time to time,
over the past year(s)
i've found that looking at my old videos
significantly relieve my post-Negril/Jamaica syndrome
for example,
related to this thread (somewhat),
below is an old *produce* video
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=myB3LH1QjNo
Hello Smith744, Thank you for posting you video after watching the produce one I started watching the rest of them. Bulla has a beautiful garden, and thanks for taking me on your morning walk. I went to the craft market one time and It scared me, have not been back.
