Best part of the beach?
Hey all, we are two couples coming down in late February. We were originally looking for a suite, but looking tough for reservations so we may just get two rooms at the same place, hoping for a veranda or patio where we can hang out (when not on the beach or at the bar)
We liked Rondell last time we were in Negril, but folks say the beach has washed away there a bit. Anyone have some suggestions on which part of the beach is looking good now (I know all of the beach looks good for us stuck in the frigid north) and a nice place to stay? Wide part of the beach, not too packed...
Thanks in advance! We can't wait to come back!

Re: Best part of the beach?
Nirvana is pricey but i have to say thats my favorite part of the beach

Re: Best part of the beach?
We are staying at the Negril Beach Club Condo's. They aren't fancy places but are nice and the prices are really good. They have the biggest beach on the south end of the 7 Mile.

Re: Best part of the beach?
we like coco lapalm or idle awhile, very nice central part of the beach.

Re: Best part of the beach?
The beach everywhere has gotten much wider. Shouldn't be a problem anywhere you go.
But as far as best part of the beach goes, always have been partial to White Sands.

Re: Best part of the beach?
That's great to hear that the beach has gotten wider - it was such a shame to see the erosion between the first time we went and a couple years after.
I've always like the beach a bit more up by White Sands as well - we are still playing with the idea of getting a villa down at BeachHouse Villas - it looks really nice - I don't remember liking the beach down there as much though, but I can't remember why. Maybe it's too close to town and is it a little more built up down there? Anyone that's been recently help me put my mind at ease (I overplan)

Re: Best part of the beach?
BHV has the abandoned property beside it and I think a small beach, haven't been though. I still recommend Country Country, not as wide as the Nirvana, Coco, Charela area, but very nice beach for less than 20 cottages...nicer than White Sands, esp per capita. Not luxury but very nice homey, beachy cottages with TV, AC, fridge and large covered balconies/patios. Beautiful gardens, few people and great food.

Re: Best part of the beach?
coco La Palm, Idle Awhile, charela, White Sands and Nirvana are the best area of beach imho.

And the restaurant beside them - Linga by the Sea - is awesome! Amazing table coverings! Those things are art!

Try a little further down da beach to the south end Sunset On The Beach. Nice beach just need to walk to the action a little.

Re: Best part of the beach?
Nirvana has a great beach with hardly anyone using it. Check them out as they have several options for two couples and an awesome staff to boot.

Re: Best part of the beach?
I would recommend Treehouse. Their beach has gotten a lot wider this year, it seems, from what I've seen on the board lately. Also, they have some larger rooms, that maybe could accomodate two couples. If not, I think they have rooms with adjoining balconies.

Re: Best part of the beach?
If your looking for space on the beach definitely not White Sands, or Treehouse two of the most crowded areas on the beach, besides legends!

Re: Best part of the beach?
Check out the Yellowbird http://www.theyellowbird.com/index.html. Great location, great staff and plenty of beach. They have 2Bd 2Bth cabins with kitchens with a bar on the beach which serves some of the best dirty bannas on the beach. Been staying there in Jan for 19 years. Call and ask for Marva or Juliette. You'll love it.

Re: Best part of the beach?
Staying at Nirvana now for the 4th time. I think the best beaches, with adequate shade trees, are Nirvana, Charela and Coco.

Re: Best part of the beach?
if you were looking for a quieter location but nice new buildings with 2bd rm and beautiful views as well as access to two quiet beaches and a large pool, the new development in Bloody Bay may have some folks renting their units. Bloody Bay is the start of the 7 mile beach and about $1/person ride to get to far end of the beach.

Re: Best part of the beach?
I have stayed at 2xRondel, White Sands, Rooms and 3xNegril Beach Club in 7 previous reaches. Staying again at NBCC in a few weeks. IMO the beaches at NBCC and Rooms are the best, I like WS but agree it is crowded, Rondel's is all inside the wall now. Rooms has nicer rooms but I like the beach at NBCC by far the best. The rooms are not fancy and some are not that great but I choose it because of the beach and the staff.

Re: Best part of the beach?
I actually prefer the north part of the beach. Just stayed at Couples Swept Away in December and it was bar none the best part of the beach. It may or may not be the price range you are seeking, but after a storm brewed up the week prior, from Charela to the south, the beach was covered in a very stinky seaweed. I had never seen that before (in my 10x there) but it wasn't pleasant to walk in either. We would walk and step in sink holes, literally. CSA's beach was gorgeous!

Re: Best part of the beach?
Yes same thing happened last march. They bury the seaweed into the sand and it was pretty smelly for a few days
-
Re: Best part of the beach?
I think Charela Inn has the most beautiful beachfront. Lots of palm trees and some nice seagrape trees. Couples Swept Away also has a beautiful beach.
Curious....I believe I read that the government was going to do a beach restoration project in Negril. Is that why the beach has become wider everywhere? When I was there in June, it was necessary to walk up through Treehouse's restaurant/bar to walk by. Is the beach back up where you can at any time of day walk in front of the restaurant?

JamaGinger....there has been no beach restoration project physically started here by the Gov't.
It's just a natural shifting of sand & sea that happens on a regular basis.

Re: Best part of the beach?
The beach, where is the best spot? Any spot there on the beach in Negril is where you want to be if you ask me, there is something to be said about being able to just walk in to the sea instead of jumping into it! Maybe its because I am getting older and climbing up a old ladder to get out of the sea is not for me, and the view on the beach is much better, again those are my thoughts! Anywhere on the beach is the best part!
Bless.

Re: Best part of the beach?
Thanks, bnewb. Just wondering if it is wider everywhere or in certain spots.

Thank you. CoCo is great.

Re: Best part of the beach?
They did a beach restoration in Playa Del Carmen Mexico and it was a mess and eventually it went back to normal anyways. You can't mess with mother nature.

Re: Best part of the beach?
sometimes the river blends into the sea and it smells - i don't like the beach too close to the river
-
Re: Best part of the beach?
Sea Wind or The Palms Resort are in a good location, and the beach used to be nice there.
-
Re: Best part of the beach?
Getting ready to leave negril as I type this - its been a great stay.
The beach around rondel does seem a little less this year while areas around treehouse and yellow bird seem to have gotten more of their beach back.
We also prefer negril beach club - plenty of beach space there. Beach house villas has a much smaller beach but it has a nice vibe.
I'm sure you will enjoy no matter what you decide.

Re: Best part of the beach?
I like the beach at Rooms, great location, right beside Myrna's store & Alfreds, seating with trees for shade if you need it, or not if you don't need it. Large beach area and the wall to keep you from getting hassled too much by vendors if that's your preference.
