Does anyone know the average cost of Jet Ski now. I know you can barter the price, but there is a usual average.

Will be interesting to see this ans, our granddaughter paid $25 for 15 min 2 years ago, high huh?
My hubby usually uses the same guy each time (Robin?) and he gets 45 minutes for $30. I think the usual is about $30 for 30 minutes though.
We paid $80 for an hour. I asked three different vendors prices ranged from $100, $90 and $80. The first guy who said $100 was mad that I didn't go back to him and tell him the other guy offered us $80 so he could offer the same. He was really ticked of at me and pulled my husband aside and said that isn't the way you do things and that he was in trouble with his boss. Well, then you should have offered me the $80 in the first place and not try and rip me off, for that reason alone I wouldn't use him. I wasn't in the mood to get into a haggling situation while on vacation. When we pointed to the $80 guy to bring the jet ski in for us (there were 4 of us and we rented two skis) you should have seen them all flying in on their jet skis and throwing life jackets on all of us. It was like an attack! But we knew which 2 skis we wanted and chose those. I realize these people try and get the most $$ they can from you, but I don't appreciate being treated like a moron either, I mean really when there are 10 different people trying to rent you a jet ski, of course you're going to go with the better price/jet ski. Don't be mad at me after the fact when I chose the best bang for the buck!
I made the mistake one time of not insisting I get the nice new one they were showing off..they gave me a old crappy one with no power and bad throttle..make sure you insist on the nice one they show off
We have started as of late to ask how much time for a given amount of money. Say how much for $30.00? If it sounds fair we ski if not we may ask the next person....
We have a friend who's husband runs one of the jet ski's on the beach. They bought it together. She's usually in that range unless you are a friend then its mostly gas costs.
Encouraging jet ski use is irresponsible on this forum.
Basically ?"scolding"? someone for asking this two weeks ago {before the very unfortunate incident with Mr. Castillo (RIP)} is probably not right because with how many there are out there who would think that proper regulation (i guess you could call it) is not in place. This resent event is very tragic and very eye opening, with that said I'm sure most if not all boardies wouldn't really want to ride a jet ski in Negril anymore. The only reason I call it scolding is because if I asked this question and then that was posted I would feel like Ive done something wrong and feel pretty bad about it.
the hell with the dam jet skies
they nshould all b banned there as far as im concerned i hate em here and i really hate em in negril
iv been almost ru over em to there and here, not all r iresposible but i say bout 75 % of en r esp in negril I watch 2 germans years ago who rented em there playing chicken till they collided, watched one guy cart whell for bout 30 ft. the injuries were not bad but if they were , they deserved it, but they destroyed one of the jet skies to my delight
nothing personal against ppl who want to rent them there but as you can tell by my rant furthere down on this page that I really don't like jet skis.
It's not the jet skis that are dangerous but like all watercraft they need training for the users. The operators are doing donuts and speeding to get the attention of potential customers. They are also approaching the shore too closely. Those actions may be counterproductive. I would not be saddened by a ban.
In God we trust, all others bring data. If you want to address the environmental impact, start a new thread and bring data!
What about all the old engines on all the other boats up and down the beach. Is encouraging their use equally irresponsible?
Either do the planes that most of us fly in for thousands of miles so we can vacation for a few days. A 747 uses on average 1 gallon of fuel per second.
Imposing a ban that will never be enforced, just like the rules currently in place, will do nothing to solve the problem. In my opinion, the solution should involve the banning of marketing of jet skis from the water. All jet skis not rented to passengers should be anchored or beached. Drivers must not come within such a distance from shore unless leaving or returning from deeper waters and at a max of 3 knots (walking speed). And enforce it!
"Under the Beach Control (Safety Measures) Regulations of 2006, any person who operates a vessel (including jet skis) exceeding three knots (3.5 miles per hour) within a buffer area commits an offence, and if convicted, could be fined up to $250,000 and/or face a prison term of up to 12 months."

Atemporary ban is now in place. It will be interesting to see if it is enforced. I will be there tomorrow.
Agreed, Stoner!
See you on the peaceful beach tomorrow...
I sail a live aboard on Lake Ontario. Experienced mariner. I've ridden jet skis as well and find them fun. Problem with most of the riders is they have no concept of the danger they represent. Flying up to my sailboat at 40MPH just to take a look and shoot away, maybe circle me at high speeds is dangerous. As I learned years ago from a mentor - never go faster than you would be willing to hit something.
I thought I read that it was damaging the coral? Is that true? If thats true, they should be banned...~~ As far as the danger part...they do say the same about our 4-wheelers here..and our snowmobiles..it depends on how they are used. Now I'm straddling..Another thing..if it isnt bad for the coral..who am I to say that people who live on this island should abide by what I want to see on vacation....This is their lively hood, not mine.
I own two jet skis and love riding. Its all about safety and knowing how to handle the machines. I look forward to riding whenever I visit Negril. Enjoy!!
This is a sensitive thread.... Tragic what happened,,,, Tragic events happen every day...
Hille141 says it best,,,read the post !!!!! Those of you who want to ban the jet ski's...
I just ask this
Eco,
How do you get to work and what motorized vehicle do you use ? Are you polluting the environment?
Juis,
Go up the South Negril River and tell me what you see? Jet ski's damaging the coral?
Shaggy,
I get the rant !!!
Point is, do not be ignorant,,,more people get killed on Norman Manley Blvd than on the ocean....
tragic as it may be,,,, and I sympathize .....
But, are you gonna ban cars, trucks and motorcycles, next??? Are they not polluting the environment?
Are there tragic deaths associated with this? yes,,, all the time.....
Tragic things happen, but, you learn and grow from them !!!!!
Negrilbound well said.
Since havent been there yet..I haven't gone up the Negril River....So I didnt realize they were up there..I was trying to be nice... I wont do it again.
Sorry, however I have no ability to edit and just realized a good chunk of my post is imbedded in the post a quoted. Look for the bold
