Okay, now that we have our trip booked and i've scanned this site enough - I feel it is safe enough to ask this question. We are taking our first trip to Jamaica in 5 weeks, staying part of the time at Rooms and part of the time at Firefly. Curious about what we can expect in the form of herb there. We get very good stuff in the states, but I don't want to set my expectations high about Jamaica only to be disappointed. ;)

It depends. Lots of jamaican ganja isn 't all that strong. I know a guy in Negril that I trust and he supplies me with pretty good product. But considering the high grade hydro I get where I live its not great, but better then alot of the bunk guys will try to sell you. I just returned from 2 weeks in Port Antonio. I found 1 guy selling on winnifred beach that had really good stuff, I was impressed.
Yeah, that's my worry - I've been blessed here in the states with some fine herb. Any advice for us when we're there looking for good stuff? I know it is not legal and we have to be careful. A friend who stayed in Mo Bay told us to just talk to our cab driver when we leave the airport and are on our way to Negril - to find good stuff. Because yes, I have absolutely no interest wasting my time or money on dirt.
It's fresh, unlike most around here. Not great, but you make up in quantity what it lacks in quality. They generally don't take the effort to separate males from females, so it usually has seed. If you can get someone to take you up to Orange Hill, you can get a better deal (15-20 minute ride)

go for about $20 worth at a time . . . and ask for something better --- there's definitely "tourist grade" for those that only eat subs in jamaica and don't know better

I got 20 worth my last trip and it was way more than any human could possibly handle in 5 days. It was pretty good quality too. It's all about who you ask.
yep use someone that you are going to be seeing for the rest of the trip where you are staying. that has usually worked for us. bring your wraps from home. DO NOT TRAVEL with it. Be discreet smoking it. Buy a little at a time or you will be leaving some behind...and we are daily in the states or were...had to swear off...no longer self employed...and have the testy testing thingy to deal with! ;-(. Also bring a clip....it is usually so moist you get a couple tokes and it is so sticky it won't smoke. put it on the clip before lighting...or pick up a neato pipe at the market...but leave it when you go home!!

Yep, Schwag for sure. Most is a step above Mexican dirt weed, alright maybe two steps. You can get some mid grade if you know where to look. Orange Hill is worth the trek as mentioned by SAeyedoc. Most is Hermie and has seeds. This is all info relayed to me by my smoker friends of course.Quote:

Usually very fresh. Buy an herb grinder, or it will be too sticky to roll. I brought one with, they were like $3 on ebay, but you can also buy them there. It will make things much, much easier.
I would also say that Orange hill like others posted is worth it. Just don't tell anyone you have they will come and won't some. My 2 cents is buy small which will be large to what u get in US. Most of it should still be sticky put in the sun it wil dry quick and enjoy. when u have the right connection I get a 2and1/2 sack for 40.00 us . Thats 2.5 ozs
From the states here. Been to Amsterdam several times and Negril 17 times. Amsterdamns quality is unmatched plus the hash is incredible but can be quit an expensive trip. We have great ganja in the states also. Jamsica ganja is definetly not what we are used to but for the price and quantity you get you cannot go wrong. Besides that you are in Negril the best place in the world. You can find ganja with minimal seed but because there is so much being grown everywhere that plants just cross pollinate. It's tough your first trip unless you get a connect because everyone on the island will try to sell you herb. Good advice for your first trip to Jamaica don't let anyone hustle you. Most of the people are wonderful but just like anywhere else you have hustlers. Orange hill does always have good bud as someone else on the board has mentioned. Get yourself some honey oil put it on your paper when u roll one up. Nice, kinda like dabs. When is your trip?
We arrive the 28th of February. I am a woman entrepreneur and usually it's me doing the hustling so I think we will be okay there. :) Is the oil widely available like the herb?Quote:

The weed will find you, as it was said before ask for the "High Grade" and be careful of the switcheroo, it happens more than you think! A newbie that came down when we were married on the beach at the Negril Gardens in 02 found out how easy it is to get a bad deal, I found a nice peace finger hash that was pretty good but being the kind of guy he is he was going to get a better deal than I did and wound up buying a ball of gum rolled in dirt, kinda looked like hash I guess, he smoked some of the good hash with the guy before the purshase, paid for it, then came the switcheroo, we still talk about that one, so again be careful. It is illadvised to use on the beach as the police are there, some look the part others don`t , they to travel in pairs of three or more, you need to use the eyes in the back of your head somedays, other days you have to buy them dinnerAttachment 33262

Just returned and can report that in 10 days found only 3 seeds in what I had and the sources were impeccable.
Quality? Not like home in southern Ontario what with Ontario hydro etc; but size can compensate to a certain degree.
Yeah,,I can get better quality in he States, but it cost $125 a 1/4 ?????? There $50 is good for 11 days???
I asked my husband the other day how much an ounce should cost in Jamaica? he said $35usd. He buys from the same few people every year, so they know him. I also asked him how the stuff that he smokes at homes compares to what he gets in Jamaica. He said it's the same as the hydro that he gets at home. He also lets it dry out because it is sticky and usually buys hash as well also, there are rarely many seeds in what he gets there.
i was staying out in "the country" and ran out of herb - i asked where i could get some more --- my host handed me a bag -sticky and complete with stalks and stems- free
my son's eyes popped out and he said "mom, he gave you that like it was candy". lol

Here's my view....it can be as cheap as $20-$50(not Negril prices) a pound on stems with seeds, but who needs that much for a week or two vacation? I like to buy smaller amounts from people I know, smoke up and then write a short review and create my own name for the herb. The cool part comes in when I have let's say 5-10 different types all providing a different high/meditation/whatever. I wake up and feel like a nice energetic high, I smoke my bag labeled whatever, it's 6 pm and I want to smoke to fall to sleep for 3-5 hours, I smoke something different.
A grinder or kids scissors (rounded tips instead or pointed) are needed until you can learn to do it properly in your hand.
Another Limo Mon tip. Clean your scissors or leave them.
I was gonna say you might be disappointed in quality if you're coming from Cali but like the others say it's dirt cheap! I don't want to sound too much like a pot snob but I have done my research for various medical problems including cancer, plus I lived on the more liberal west coast for years. IMO what drops the quality (not getting into genetics because they're are obviously medical strains available now with high THC) is the fact that they don't cure the bud after drying correctly for quick sale. That being said there a lot of tourist/beach weed but some higher grade can be found if A. You know the right people or B. Negotiate (which can be hard on the beach without examining the product). Don't buy sight unseen. Try to make local friends, they have the real stuff or know someone that does or better yet can take you to the fields to meet the real farmers (although I wouldn't trust the beach hustlers when they offer tours of the fields, like I said make local friends ie. cabbies, hotel workers etc. But keep in mind that it is Illegal so try to be as discreet as possible and NEVER smoke on the beach or anywhere in plain sight....why tempt fate and be stupid, you don't want to wind up in JA Jail!!! Now all that being said...Weed is Illegal and I don't condone it's recreational use ;)
Update from hubby over dinner, he says that the hydro that he gets at home is better than in Ja. Although it's still fresh and sticky in Ja.
If they have hash and ganja for sale the hash was pulled from the ganj.

Great ganja is in JA, but most of what is on the beach is garbage - dont buy on the beach. Dont take the first offer and remember it is much cheaper in JA.....dont pay what you pay at home!
Also, many people mentioned heading to Orange Hill and while this is correct....coming FROM Orange Hill you are almost certain to hit a road block......

You can argue quality all you want, and yes I know there are different strains, but all I know is I have always found it tasty and effective and cheaper than in the states. My advice is NEVER buy it on the beach. There is too much risk of rip off or arrest. Make a friend at your hotel. Life guard, gardener etc. Or a driver you use regularly. Someone that you will see on a regular basis so they are accountable. Discretion is ALWAYS the better part of valor and a safe vacation. Most of all enjoy! After 19 trips I am lucky to have several friends that keep me supplied with only the best at little or no cost. Just one of the many benefits of cultivating lasting friendships.

We are using it both recreationally and medicinally here in the states. We are careful and selective about strains for each. But in JA we're just looking to stay groovy for the week. But this is definitely why quality is huge. Okay - will make friends (we're good at that) and be wise about it verses trying to score some quickly.
