Favorite place to stop on the beach route to Negril
Last year we decided to have Linston take us the "back way" thru the hills. Stopped at a place called Border Jerk. Had read and seen a lot of reviews of this place. Awful. Chicken was so dry my wife waited to swallow it until I got back with beers from fear of choking. Your favorite place doesn't have to be for food. A view, people to visit, a special drink, an annual tradition........

great thread. Reminds me of driving past Bluefield and wanting to stop off at a cool each. I'll be watching this one closely.....

Maybe it was an off day...Our stop at Border Jerk was awesome!! Low key, great folks, and great jerk, at a good price. Quite frankly, I adore going the "back road" to Negril. SO many interesting little spots and a really relaxing drive.
Not dissing anyone or any place...just speaking from a personal experience. Part of the fun to me...is trying new places and routes. There are very few establishments that are ALWAYS on their game. Even some of my very favorite spots to eat in Negril, have had times when the food I had was less than great. Doesn't mean that I won't go there again. If it is repeatedly less than good...then, Houston...we have a problem. As with anything, we all have our opinions. I, for one, am quite open to giving an establishment another shot. NO, I don't have any connection with any business in Jamaica, or their owners. I am just a visitor that is always up for a new adventure and giving someone another chance...until they screw me over big time...then I'm out. :)
My input would be to be adventurous and stop in the small likkle spots...you will probably be very pleasantly surprised.

In the 60s before the North Coast road was completed to Negril .........Anchovy, Petersfied, Sav, Little London, Negril was the only road.
Even after the road opened (not today's road ...the old road) we'd use the "over the top" route from Mobay on arrival as it's much quicker to Spring Garden and home than going thru Lucea and Negril.
Many great little shops on the way. Especially one that was in Ramble
Cap

Totally agree...if it looks interesting...STOP! Or ask your driver to stop at their favourite place.
SandT Chi...I'm so sad that you had a bad experience at Borders. We love it there & find it's the closest to the original Boston Jerk on this side of the island....yummmmo jerk pork....hopefully just an off day.

We Loved to stop there and get a beer and get up Close to the water for the first time and Screw those on the bus who were afraid to get off.
But then the fire?
Re: Favorite place to stop on the beach route to Negril
Like Yetta, I love to stop at new places, it doesn't have to be any fancier than a little stall on the side of the road made of wooden sticks/bamboo with just a handful of bananas, coconuts or anything really fancy. If it grabs my attention, it's worth a stop. However, I do have one mandatory stop just outside of MoBay and that is in the little town of Hopewell. And the purchase is always the same = one hot loaf of fresh made bread, two pieces of their incredible fried chicken - then, walk next door to the fruit ladies and pick up something sweet and juicy. I'm set, the smile is pasted on my face for the rest of the ride. :)

Yes,a small stall on the roadside,,,like the one we passed many many times,,by the sea,,it says ICE COLD BEER in front,,,across from the hills with the sheep grazing....
We tell the driver to stop there,,,,,,
Sorry,,but they were kinda Mean there....Charged me 4 bucks for a warm beer and tried to charge TOO much for some vegetation.I was bummed.

Here's a third vote for Biggas!
