When do YOU go?
Hey folks!
Been away for a while......did I miss anything??? Wow!!!
Sorry to hear about the unfortunate incidents lately and we hope all involved are coping well.
Man it takes a Long time to read all the posts on here if you stay away too long.
Anyway.......My question this time is........
When do you like to take your trips to Negril?
We pretty much always found ourselves going sometime in April or May. (spring for us) That just always seemed like a good way to put an end to a usually crappy winter. (especially this year)
But the last couple years we have been able to get in a short reach in November to supplement the "jones".
I'm just wondering if that's the norm? Do most people have set times that they go each year?
Or do the majority of you just go whenever you get the chance.....regardless of what time of the year it is?
Thanks for any input!
Good to see some of the same folks are still on here......and a lot of newbies too!

Re: When do YOU go?
The timing of my trips revolves around when I can get the best plane fare and hotel deals in conjunction with how bad I am missing the place. Have never been in December, January, or February, but have been every other month in the year. Guess that goes to show that it is pretty difficult to get great deals, when the snow abounds in the north.

Re: When do YOU go?
April's good, beginning of low season yet most places are still open.
We have reached in every month except July and August and there is something to like about all of them.
The weather varies somewhat from year to year just like it does here, i.e.: one April the temp was in the mid 90s every day, the next, it was back into the low to mid 80s like usual.
Off season is quieter, less busy, some places are closed. In season is busy, more music available, everyting is open.
We love the holiday season the best, but of course it is also the priciest, busiest, and there are more potential weather delays getting to and from, esp this year. And you have to make your plans way in advance for the resort and room that you want. We have already reserved for next holidays.
I don't think there is a bad season or month to visit Jamaica. Go when you can get off of work and enjoy.

Re: When do YOU go?
My wife and I go in Dec. (her B-day), and Mar. (mine). Just booked the Dec trip thru AA Vacations for $1602, staying at Travelers.

Re: When do YOU go?
I always aim for twice a year in low season, October/November and April/May. Low season so I can stay longer. And it breaks up the year nicely too. If I stay away too long I start to get angry. :) I also plan it around my work schedule, obviously. Because of the way my shift rotations work, I get a free week off when we swap days.

Re: When do YOU go?
My usual time is summer when I can stay for several weeks (4-8). That worked best when I was teaching. It's still my favorite time now that I'm retired. Just got back from my 2nd late Jan - early Feb trip. Too busy & crowded for my liking. I like relaxing. Over the 28 years I've been going to Negril I've gone over spring break 2X, Thanksgiving 1X, several New Year's trips but not for some time. Early on I'd go in May but the teaching position switched me to summers.... early/mid June to mid July. Only 1X in August... my 2nd trip that summer.

Re: When do YOU go?
My favourite time of year (so far) is Christmas/NY. It is def more $$$, but I'm off work over the holidays so I hate to sit at home and watch the snow fall, and NY is Magical! I found October too quiet, not a lot of vendors out, a lot less activity on the beach. We like April too, not crazy busy but still lots going on :) Haven't tried the summer, I'd rather go when the white stuff is on the ground...

Re: When do YOU go?
We have been going in Feb. to break up the winter here in the northeast.....very typical. This year's trip is especially welcome with the weather we've had.

Re: When do YOU go?
My first time was late April and it's still my favorite. Early December comes in second. Both are off season but close enough to still have some activity. Also been in June and August. August was by far the hottest and slowest but there is never a bad time to be in Negril.

Re: When do YOU go?
Go right after the cut off date of April 15th or right before the high season of Dec 15th......

Re: When do YOU go?
May - First time I ever went. Not a lot of other tourists. Had a great time Obv.
November - Probably my favorite time so far. Went during US thanksgiving. Just the right amount of Tourists. Cheap rates
January - NYE, Was a short trip. Partied very hard. Dont really remember a whole lot //// My Birthday Mid Month. Had fun, but expensive rates.
April - Boardie Bash. Lots of people from here.
August - NO tourists. Went with the guys. HOT. ATI/Dream weekend. Had fun because of the company I was with.

Re: When do YOU go?
July - My first trip to Negril. Was low season, pretty quiet from what I could tell. Very hot and humid which was ok with me but I'm used to that kind of extreme heat. The water was nice and calm. there were several afternoon rainshowers that didn't last very long.
Late April / Early May - Have done this twice and experienced similar weather conditions on both trips. A few sunny days but mostly overcast skies with rough seas on the cliffs, and waves on the beach. Not as much rain as I expected given the gray skies. Again, slow season technically, but seemed there were more people than in July. Maybe because it was during the week of the Boardie Bash and there were LOTS and lots of really fun people in town. This is my favorite thing about that time of year....meeting people from this site. :)
December - This was my last trip, and so far has been my favorite time of year to be in Negril. The weather was ideal as far as I'm concerned. Sunny and warm during the day, breezy at night, and the water was PERFECT!! however, I think that might be unpredictable, as I remember seeing peoples pictures on Facebook the week leading up to my trip and being worried because the water looked very rough. Maybe I lucked out? I dunno but it was heaven!!

Re: When do YOU go?
I usually like to travel to Negril shortly after Easter weekend. Things slow down a bit. And the locals are not as aggressive with their "sales pitch" as they are earlier in the season.

Re: When do YOU go?
Every ten weeks or so depending on the necessity of showing my face.

Re: When do YOU go?
I've been mostly in December and in April -- once in July. I love Negril anytime and I've been lucky to have always had good weather, but the two times we went Christmas/NY week, were very special. I love NYE in Negril.
