Uh Ohh... Anxiety At It's Finest
Looks like after 11 trips to the rock with no weather problems, we are going to hit a big one on Wednesday. We're supposed to connect from MPS through Atlanta with a 47 minute lay-over. The Govenor of Georgia has already declared a state of emergency because of expected icing conditions. All I can hope now is that the weather people are dead wrong, the Govenor is over reacting because of what happened 2 weeks ago, the temperatures will stay above freezing, Hartsfield will be prepared and, as the "World's Busiest Airport", planes will continue to land and take-off safely.
All positive thoughts are greatly appreciated!!!

Re: Uh Ohh... Anxiety At It's Finest
Looking forward to seeing you my friend, all will be well. We hope they are dead wrong my friend.

Re: Uh Ohh... Anxiety At It's Finest
Good vibes and thoughts your way from a fellow Minnesotan. Irony: taking off without worry from Minnesota and worrying about ice in Atlanta. Global warming working in strange ways I guess. If flights are having issue my hope and guess would be that your connection will be proportionately delayed. Not good news but you may just have to arrive a little later than desired. That said I too hope the weather guessers are wrong and also think the governor is playing CYA... Safe and happy travels Russ.

Re: Uh Ohh... Anxiety At It's Finest
Good Luck Russ ! Yeah, there'll be some weather issues, hopefully all will go well. After 11 trips, the anticipation is still high, as it is for us {next week will be our 11th trip to Negril, and yes we are doing the MSP to Atlanta as well.} But, rest assured, at the Atlanta airport, they must be better prepared after what happened 2 weeks ago. Cool Runnings! Mon' Soon, you'll "Walk Good"

Re: Uh Ohh... Anxiety At It's Finest
Ahhh for the Good Ole Days of Air Jamaica, non stop Chicago to MoBay 4hrs.......

Re: Uh Ohh... Anxiety At It's Finest
They've got the snow plows and salt trucks standing by at Sangster
-
Re: Uh Ohh... Anxiety At It's Finest
Good luck Russ. That's why we booked Sun Country this year. As long as MSP is good we are out and no hassels.
-
Re: Uh Ohh... Anxiety At It's Finest
I'm with you. Fly to MBJ from Baltimore Thursday morning. Hoping the the snow/ice misses ALL of us!
-
Re: Uh Ohh... Anxiety At It's Finest
Fingers crossed for no ice (except in your drink!) - I take it there's no chance of changing flights?
-
Re: Uh Ohh... Anxiety At It's Finest
Our flight has already been cancelled from Atlanta to MBJ for Wednesday. On the phone with Delta - they are also cancelling flights for Thursday so we had to rebook for Friday. Oh well - at least we have flights.
-
Re: Uh Ohh... Anxiety At It's Finest
On that same flight that was cancelled. Trying to rebook now. Hopefully we get there earlier than Friday.
-
Re: Uh Ohh... Anxiety At It's Finest
Delta has seasonal, nonstop Saturday-only flights MSP to MBJ, leave early morning and arrive around noon. And it's usually the same price as the longer Delta flights that layover in Atlanta. Looks like there's still room on this Saturday's Delta flight on 2/15/14. :D
Good luck with your flights!
-
Re: Uh Ohh... Anxiety At It's Finest
See if they can route you through a different airport instead of Atlanta - I believe Delta still flies out of JFK to MBJ. If that's not an option, see if they will book you on another airline to get your there on Wednesday still. They may not allow you to do this since it's weather related and not mechanical, but I'd push for it anyway. The worst they could tell you is no.
-
Re: Uh Ohh... Anxiety At It's Finest
Just looked at Delta's options - you could fly out of MSP Wednesday night to Boston. Overnight there and have early flight from BOS to JFK, and then arrive in MBJ Thursday at 1:11 p.m.
It's a lot of hassle, but I'd prefer that option to not going until Friday or Saturday!
-
Re: Uh Ohh... Anxiety At It's Finest
Thanks everyone for the concern! One of the reasons I love this board:D. We had to re-book for Friday so our 11 day vacation is now down to 9. We'll just have to cram our normal 11 days into those same 9. Still better than the 7 days that we used to take. See you soon!

Re: Uh Ohh... Anxiety At It's Finest
Atlanta gets One Inch of snow and it turns into the apocalypse.

Re: Uh Ohh... Anxiety At It's Finest
Just an FYI.. SunCountry has dedicated vacation direct flights form MSP-MBJ

Minnesota
Aug. 12 - Moved into our new home in Minnesota . It is so beautiful here. The hills and river valleys are so picturesque. I have a beautiful old oak tree in my front yard. Can hardly wait to see the change in the seasons. This is truly God's Country.
Oct. 14 -
Minnesota is such a gorgeous place to live, one of the real special places on Earth. The leaves are turning a multitude of different colors. I love all of the shades of reds, oranges and yellows, they are so bright. I want to walk through all of the beautiful hills and spot some white tail deer. They are so graceful, certainly they must be the most peaceful creatures on Earth. This must be paradise.
Nov. 11 - Deer season opens this week. I can't imagine why anyone would want to shoot these elegant animals. They are the very symbol of peace and tranquility here in Minnesota . I hope it snows soon. I love it here!
Dec. 2 - It snowed last night. I woke to the usual wonderful sight: everything covered in a beautiful blanket of white. The oak tree is magnificent. It looks like a postcard. We went out and swept the snow from the steps and driveway. The air is so crisp, clean and refreshing. We had a snowball fight. I won, and the snowplow came down the street. He must have gotten too close to the driveway because we had to go out and shovel the
end of the driveway again. What a beautiful place. Nature in harmony. I love it here!
Dec. 12 - More snow last night. I love it! The plow did his cute little trick again. What a rascal. A winter wonderland. I love it here!
Dec. 19 - More snow - couldn't get out of the driveway to get to work in time. I'm exhausted from all of the shoveling. And that snowplow!
Dec. 21 - More of that white stuff coming down. I've got blisters on my hands and a kink in my back. I think that the snowplow driver waits around the corner until I'm done shoveling the driveway. Idiot.
Dec. 25 - White Christmas? More freakin' snow. If I ever get my hands on the SOB who drives that snowplow, I swear I'll castrate him. And why don't they use more salt on these roads to melt this crap??
Dec. 28 - It hasn't stopped snowing since Christmas. I have been inside since then, except of course when that SOB "Snowplow Harry" comes by. Can't go anywhere, cars are buried up to the windows. Weather man says to expect another 10 inches. Do you have any idea how many shovelfuls 10 inches is??
Jan. 1 - Happy New Year? The way it's coming down it won't melt until the 4th of July! The snowplow got stuck down the road and the idiot actually had the guts to come and ask to borrow a shovel! I told him I'd broken 6 already this season.
Jan. 4 - Finally got out of the house. We went to the store to get some food and a damn deer ran out in front of my car and I hit the *******. It did $3,000 in damage to the car. Those beasts ought to be killed. The hunters should have a longer season if you ask me.
Jan. 27 - Warmed up a little and rained today. The rain turned the snow into ice and the weight of it broke the main limb of the oak tree in the front yard and it went through the roof. I should have cut that old piece of crap into fireplace wood when I had the chance.
May 23 - Took my car to the local garage. Would you believe the whole underside of the car is rusted away from all of that damn salt they dump on the road? Car looks like a bashed up, heap of rusted cow poo.
May 10 - Sold the car, the house, and moved to Florida . I can't imagine why anyone in their freakin' mind would ever want to live in the God forsaken State of MinnesAttachment 33633ota!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!and you wonder why we go to Jamaica.Attachment 33633Attachment 33633

Re: Uh Ohh... Anxiety At It's Finest
Oh my! So sorry Minnesota. And loved all of the help/input for different flights to get to paradise! I love this board.
-
Re: Uh Ohh... Anxiety At It's Finest
@ Mud ~ I just read the same thing on Facebook, but change out Minnesota for Michigan. I've lived here most of my life, so you would think I would be used to it. This year? Not so much. I'm in hate with the snow, the cold, and the ice.

Re: Uh Ohh... Anxiety At It's Finest
Well, all flights out of Baltimore were canceled for today. The earliest they can get us in is Sunday.
The good news is that my wife and I were also able to extend our stay to the 24th, so we're luckily not missing any days.
-
Re: Uh Ohh... Anxiety At It's Finest
Made it to the island on Thursday evening just in time to watch the sunset. Rocky was there to pick us up as always. So far it's been 3 dives, LTU, Pushcart and Sips and Bites for dinner. Trip report to come when we get back. Looking forward to hooking up with R&L at Canoe on Thursday! Missed 1 day but everything is beautiful and green. We're really in heaven.

Re: Uh Ohh... Anxiety At It's Finest
Glad you made it safe and sound! Enjoy to the max!
