1st timer ? about airport transfers
My wife and I are headed to Negril March 1st. It's our first trip to Jamaica. We bought the whole package online through the airline. We paid for the cheapest bus service to get from the airport to the hotel (Grand Pineapple). Can anyone give me a little direction as to what I can expect? I feel we will be fine, but I would like a little heads up about what we are doing.
Thanks,
Jim
Re: 1st timer ? about airport transfers
Waiting for a full bus at airport, stopping at every hotel along the way to drop people. No one in any hurry. It isn't always hell, but it can be. I went private for a while, but now use clives shared ride service.. Inexpensive and most the time you end riding private anyways.
Re: 1st timer ? about airport transfers
Sounds like it may take a while to get to the hotel. Are the busses easy to find and figure out which one is the right one?
Re: 1st timer ? about airport transfers
What company is taking you to Negril? Is it a shuttle from Grand Pineapple or another company?
If it is a JUTA shuttle you may have to wait around for other people to arrive before you set out to Negril. You will also stop at other hotels to drop people off before arriving at G.P.
IF it is a G.P. shuttle only, you may have to wait to pick up people but you would go straight to the resort...
When exiting customs walk straight out and a little to the left and someone will help you find your ride...

When you exit the airport with your bags go to the right others will offer you a ride just tell them what bus your looking for and most of them will lead you to your ride. Last trip I told one driver who I was looking for he called him for me.

It it normally about a 1 hr and 20 min ride to Negril...when you wait around for people and stop alot it can make the trip seem loooong... It is pretty easy to find your bus, just don't go out the door to the right after customs, that is for private rides...go left and someone will guide you...

If this is your first time, it will give you a chance to see where the other resorts are that you hear about on the board. We transfered that way a couple of times & it was kind of fun. Grand Pineapple is a little jewel on the 7 mile beach. You will enjoy it. Enjoy it!!:D
Re: 1st timer ? about airport transfers
I don't remember right off hand the bus service. It is not the G.P. shuttle for sure. JUTA sounds right. The paperwork is not close to me right now. I won a contest from a radio station and am currently in Playa Del Carmen, Mexico. This is out first all inclusive, and it's got me excited for Jamaica. We travel to Mexico every year and decided to try Jamaica. After booking the trip, we won this one.
I guess the bus trip will be what it is. Our first time there should be fun, even if it takes a little longer to get there.
Re: 1st timer ? about airport transfers
Grand Pineapple is a nice place on a good part of the beach...you will have a great trip :)
Re: 1st timer ? about airport transfers
Maybe I've gotten lucky but every time I've taken JUTA I've always ended up with 1-2 other couples/families and it was pretty quick and comfortable.
JUTA seems to be more enjoyable when it comes to transportation than booking with the all inclusive hotels, a lot of them use really large buses that are packed with people.
Enjoy Jamaica for what it is, just remember that a lot of stuff is on Jamaican time :-p
Re: 1st timer ? about airport transfers
Just looked at our trip info. We are taking a JTL(Jamaica Tours Limited) bus. Is that a big bus?

We used JTL on our first trip, as well. It is a very big bus. I asked the same questions as you and you can read about my experiences here:

Re: 1st timer ? about airport transfers
to find Juta after you finish all of the customs stuff walk straight until you get to a large room with a door in front and a door to the right, to the left there are kiosks for the different transport services just ask them for JUTA and someone will get your info and tell you how long ... when I did it the had me go out the door that was previously in front of me and wait til they called out our ride... out that door and you will feel Jamaica REMEMBER THIS Its a feeling that is amazing...and if its still there there will be a little margaritaville there... not the big one by the taxis... Enjoy!

Jim, When you exit customs and go outside a lot of people will hit you up for a taxi. Just tell them you are looking for your bus someone will show you. Grande Pineapple is a great resort. You will never want to go to Mexico again!

I didn't mean to scare you. JTL does run a good operation and the buses are clean and comfortable. You may have a painless experience. It's just that any number of variables can cause the process to move slow.
Once you enter the transportation hall (right after going through customs), turn left and walk toward the back wall. The JTL Tours desk is along the back wall, in the corner. There are people all over the floor that will point you in the right direction.
Re: 1st timer ? about airport transfers
Mike_D, I'm not worried, it will be new and whatever happens, happens. As long as we get to the resort and back to the airport in time, it will be an experience.
