Mailing "stuff" letters etc. to Jamaica??

I will just chalk this one up to... "I learned my lesson". Okay, I'm disgusted, disappointed whatever. I know this can happen anywhere, I suppose. Here goes my likkle rant. We've had our Jamaican family for 7 years now, they live on top road in Little London. We've sent them "stuff" before, no problems as far as I know. This last reach, they informed me that the letter was stolen, and they never even received the remains. In the letter was some really great pictures, a long hand-written letter, and a birthday card for 16 year old Colleen. I had slipped a 10 dollar bill in the birthday card. O.K. fine, you thief, couldn't you have just taken the damn money and sent the remainder of the letter to the family? Does anyone know the route of mail from USA to Jamaica? I know they probably scan everything, there's no privacy at all {don't we know that Americans???} Heck, this message board is probably being monitored by some agency. So, yeah I learned my lesson. Don't put anything of value in the mail ! Just thought I'd run this by you, to see if anybody has had any similar experiences. Respect??? One Love???

Don't mean to make light of your "stuff "being stolen but I'm sure it's easier to mail "stuff " to jamaica than it is to mail "stuff" from jamaica

Rock,I'm sure you know that was meant tongue in cheek,the business I'm involved in uses the us mail quite a bit,the amount of lost bills we send out,mail that is returned to us shredded or worse is amazing all while they make it harder for us(customers) to use them and they wonder why they're going out of business,the problem could have happened at point of origin,who knows?

Sorry this happen to you, but I saw this from googling the idea of sending items by mail, and the comments made. Also I was told to attach a list to the outside of packages and heard that they never arrive. Then the cost of shipping, I know I can't afford.

No easy way around this.

Not sure when you'd mailed the letter, RnR....but it can take anywhere from 3 weeks to sometimes 3 months....

It was mailed around Dec. 12th. Yeah, I realize it can take a while, so who knows?? It would be really great if it did show up. Thanks for the replies. Later, I gotta go do a "Beach" party in Clontarf, Minnesota! Not holding out for any bikini's, It's 4 below, and really windy! Folks just might decide to stay home. Aw, shoot! we'll see... Hopefully it's still on route, yes it can very easily take a few months.

Months for a letter? I can swim faster, that is if sharks didn't keep me out of the wata.

When I was in Kingston, the mail was delivered everyday by a guy riding a bicycle.

Heck we just got a Christmas card returned to us last week that had a wrong address on it,it was mailed before Christmas from NC to NY and took that long to get back to us!!

We mailed a package to a friend ,Danette who has a small stand next to moon scape villas. She really liked the necklace I made for myself so I sent her a nice package of jewery making stuff. After 4 months , it was returned to us as un delivered so we hand delivered it to her on our next reach, she was so glad for it but since then I don't try to send stuff there At least it was not stolen and there was about 100 bucks of stuff in it

I wouldn't write it off yet. Don't know why but it takes forever for mail to get to and from Jamaica. I've sent packages that have taken more than a month to get there. Have also sent lots of postcards from Jamaica back to So. Dak. and have always made it back home before the cards did.

I think it's a universal thing, not just Jamaican. I mailed some stuff to Egypt in Nov and it's still not there, but then, something I mailed in Sept. only got there mid-January. Postal systems employ people, and sometimes we mess up! It happens! Canada and the U.S. have great postal systems, compared to other countries - but a lot of our mail goes to those other countries! You know? Returns always take longer - they spend a lot of time and energy trying to deliver the piece to the original destination; when it's being returned, it's kind of de-prioritized.
